Is the outside of the new RWJB really planned to be as drab as the RAC?

As a student and tour guide, I'm in agreement with the OP. This is the entrance to Livingston campus, where we bring prospective students and their families on a daily basis. Love it or hate it, the business school has a "wow" factor. This truly does look extraordinarily drab and like Busch campus brutalist architecture. The appearance of our campus matters, and this isn't going somewhere out of the way, this will be the first building people see coming onto Livingston campus. You don't need a building to be extraordinarily decadent on the outside to look nice. See: The Honors College, the new Academic Buildings, etc.

Thank you first for being an ambassador to our university and working to get prospective students to come to RU. I'm well aware that it is the first thing you see on Livingston along with the business school. My point was more towards recruits. The average student is not using that facility and while a select few might the importance around athletics is the amenities indoors. Google practice facilities and many have a similar look but the inside is what wows people. Red R or Rutgers lit up will be sufficient. When it is all said and done I doubt people will be unimpressed.

It isn’t used for anything else. I have no clue why it’s that way. I’ve never scene the outer doors unlocked for entry. Just exit. Might be a fire thing too. There isn’t any seating.

I haven’t been around it enough to know much about it other than inside is nicer than my house. Ha.
Husker, any chance you can come across a cheap mascot bobblehead out there?

Is it? Is it unreasonable of us to want a facility that is largely designed to sell recruits to not look like a typical office building?

Is it wrong to bitch when we donated based on a picture that looks nothing like what this new finished product looks like?

I don't really think so. I think its fair game, and its ugly.
Not having the R in red is just asinine. Yes, it is awesome that the project is moving forward, but why does everything we do get so many simple things wrong all the time? It is so RU.

Some of you guys crack me up and can be such a holes. We've been waiting for this thing forever and a chance to have something special as recruits, visiting fans, and our fans walk up to the RAC. This is the home of our winter sports training facility....and it could look just like another classroom or dorm. The rendering I inserted from Official site looks like an on campus medical facility because of the labeling...not the architecture.

All i suggested was spiff it up with some red.....and you extremist who should be talking heads on nightly news go into "bitching and complaining" attack.

See the Nebraska "Hendricks Training Complex" highlighted over the Red background with the red N. That is all I was suggesting....

geez...

I have no problems with what you posted. I just hope they fix the outside of the RAC. Yes, I think it makes a difference when you look at the Home stadium where you will be committing. Recruits are thinking about a million different things from will I love the coach, how much playing time will I get, can this team win and what will my friends and family think of my decision? I think our football stadium and new practice fields help us. I don’t know how much the RAC has hurt us in recruiting but it sure as hell hasn’t helped. I trust that Hobbs knows what he’s doing.

Why are fans going to the practice facility on a regular basis? The place is designed for the team and to get better players on the team. Hobbs and pikiell know this and everything is done with that in mind.
I thought there's suppose to be a store inside selling RU gear?

At $100 million dollars it’s not too much to ask that the facility have some curb appeal. And frankly, once it was decided that this facility would be placed next to the RAC the budget should have included resources to give the RAC a facelift too.

I'm pretty sure RWJ Barnabas has some say about the outside of the building. It's their Brand name on the outside. So it's not going to look too glitzy. It's going to look more like....well, a hospital or medical center.

If I had to guess, I would think RAC naming rights is pretty high on the list of priorities for Hobbs and his fundraising staff.

The best case scenario may be for RWJ to cough up some more money for naming rights to the RAC to pay for a major upgrade...inside and out.

I'm told that eventually the RWJBarnabas name will be rebranded as Rutgers Health.

Either way it's not like the RWJBarnabas system doesn't have modern, attractive facilities.
