Is there a realistic path to a post season tourney?

Guessing we need at least 15 wins to sniff CBI, and a winning record overall for NIT. A deep run of at least 2 wins in the B1G tourney will help our profile either way.

NO you need an athletic department willing to part with a decent amount of $ or a fanbase with 3-4K willing to commit to $40 per game for meaningless games.

I don't think Pikiell et al. are interested in participating in the CBI.

To get an NIT bid, due to the strength of the B1G this season, I think a 17-16 record would do it.

That means we need to win five of our 11 remaining regular season games, and then win two games in the B1G tournament.

To have a shot at the NIT...

I really think we will would need to be 9-11
And therefore 16-14 heading into the NIT...

I think you would need to win in the big ten tournament gets us...to 17-15...and then I’m not sure that’s enough

I think this would get us in. Finishing 6-5 in the remaining 11 regular season games is a tall order, though.

Just as a measuring stick:

Last season Maryland (19-13) was not invited to the NIT and turned down a CBI invitation.

Exactly...though the big ten was perceived as down last year....and it’s perceived as one of the two best with the ACC this year

19-13 would get NIT this year from the big ten

17-15 still fills very iffy...

For you dreamers out there, to get to the big dance...

RU would have to go 7-4 down the stretch, then advance to the B1G semis. Three of RU's seven wins would have to be vs. Michigan, at Michigan State, and at Iowa. Marquee wins are mandatory to get an NCAA invitation.

What do you think our record would need to be considering our conference strength of schedule to get into the NIT or CBI?
I like the way you think! I'd say 18, total including the B1G tourney, should do it. Let's revisit this after we beat Michigan.

Hmm...11-9/18-12...then getting two wins (one would likely against a 1 or 2 seed) would get 20-13....

Maybe..

Winning record gets us the NIT
- if in fact we accomplish a miracle and get 19 wins - seems that would be bubble talk as that would strengthen our RPI (or whatever they call it now).

19 wins would mean a lot of good wins and major upsets.

Two straight wins for the first time since joining the conference and we’re already plotting a path to the tourney.

I LOVE THIS BOARD!
Exactly..please don't do this folks. You're going to screw up whatever karma we got going. Let it be. Whatever will be will be. The futures not ours to see. K Sarah Sarah.

I know we’re not an NCAA team but I didn’t know what was required to get into the NIT or CBI for a BIG team so I asked the question.

We’re 5-7 in our last 12 big games so it’s not impossible for us to roll off several more wins

Goals:

1. Don't finish last in the B1G
2. Repeat #1 again
3. Finish outside the bottom 4 in league
4. Do # 3 repeatedly for a few years
5. Middle of the pack B1G team
6. Fight hard to repeat #5 as often as possible

The bids be it CBI, NIT, NCAAs will come with the progress. Like coach says, stay the course with the build.

its a longshot....RU will need 7 more wins either in regular season/Big 10 tourney to get to 17-16.....8-12/2-1 in tourney

if RU doesnt beat Indiana tomorrow you can forget about talking about this

the path....

Indiana
at Ohio State
at Illinois
at Northwestern
Minnesota
Penn State

or switch out one of those road wins for a win at home vs Iowa.

its still a lot to expect....consistency...if RU wins the next 2 games I think we can reasonably talk but before that, we need to slow down

17 is definitely enough. The NIT wants the possibility of our crowd in the Garden. I think over .500 will due it.

Yes, I know. And I hope so....I'm not seriously giving you crap...just know our history all too well and want to keep expectations in check. 1 game at a time...

Bonus points for correctly saying "marquee" instead of "signature" here!

How does it work?

The NCAA bought or merged with the NIT. Every team that wins their conference but not their conference tournament gets an NIT autobid. The rest of the teams are selected by resume like the NCAA. Someone else canpeobably explain it more detailed than i can.

8 more wins in the regular season and we are on the bubble. 1 in the BIG tourney bubble burst . 2 and we are in
