What do you think our record would need to be considering our conference strength of schedule to get into the NIT or CBI?
Guessing we need at least 15 wins to sniff CBI, and a winning record overall for NIT. A deep run of at least 2 wins in the B1G tourney will help our profile either way.
The question was what record would we need to qualify.
I think this would get us in. Finishing 6-5 in the remaining 11 regular season games is a tall order, though. To have a shot at the NIT...
I really think we will would need to be 9-11
And therefore 16-14 heading into the NIT...
I think you would need to win in the big ten tournament gets us...to 17-15...and then I’m not sure that’s enough
NO you need an athletic department willing to part with a decent amount of $ or a fanbase with 3-4K willing to commit to $40 per game for meaningless games.
Just as a measuring stick:
Last season Maryland (19-13) was not invited to the NIT and turned down a CBI invitation.
At least 18 wins for the NITThe question was what record would we need to qualify.
I would think that a 16 - 15 Rutgers team could draw 4k to a CBI game, then more with each win.
I like the way you think! I'd say 18, total including the B1G tourney, should do it. Let's revisit this after we beat Michigan. What do you think our record would need to be considering our conference strength of schedule to get into the NIT or CBI?
For you dreamers out there, to get to the big dance...
RU would have to go 7-4 down the stretch, then advance to the B1G semis. Three of RU's seven wins would have to be vs. Michigan, at Michigan State, and at Iowa. Marquee wins are mandatory to get an NCAA invitation.
What about the NIT?probably a dozen wins and the obligation to pay $50,000 per game and up to $75,000 for semis and finals
Exactly..please don't do this folks. You're going to screw up whatever karma we got going. Let it be. Whatever will be will be. The futures not ours to see. K Sarah Sarah. Two straight wins for the first time since joining the conference and we’re already plotting a path to the tourney.
I LOVE THIS BOARD!

No chance could we get 4,000 patrons in the building willing to pay $35 100s $25 200s $10 300s
How many paid? I didAdmittedly tough to find a comparable situation but our first round NIT game at home vs Temple (in 2004 !), drew 3,500.
17 is definitely enough. The NIT wants the possibility of our crowd in the Garden. I think over .500 will due it.To have a shot at the NIT...

Yes, I know. And I hope so....I'm not seriously giving you crap...just know our history all too well and want to keep expectations in check. 1 game at a time...I know we’re not an NCAA team but I didn’t know what was required to get into the NIT or CBI for a BIG team so I asked the question.
We’re 5-7 in our last 12 big games so it’s not impossible for us to roll off several more wins
Bonus points for correctly saying "marquee" instead of "signature" here! For you dreamers out there, to get to the big dance...

And what other team would?
We have a better chance of making NCAAs then NIT
How does it work?
As crazy as that sounds...it’s not off
2-3 wins is the difference in a power confrence from being on the NCAA bubble and the NIT bubble
