Why not? Can't see them putting that game anywhere else
Minnesota owns the Thursday night home opener.Wish it was Thursday night
Because the Friday night games have, largely, gone away. None of the paying customers chose to purchase a Friday night package. So there's just a few Friday night games here and there, mostly on BTN.When the “rule” was everyone has to do a Friday night game I suggested we volunteer for that slot every season.
But looks like the “rule” has gone away.
Friday night games on LDW and Black Friday are fine. I'm not a fan of them besides those 2 weekends. Leave Friday nights for high school football and low/mid major football like the Sun Belt and the MAC.Because the Friday night games have, largely, gone away. I wish we would have locked it upMinnesota owns the Thursday night home opener.
That seems like a smart move for the league. Make game 2 the cupcake…Like many here, I'm a shore guy and don't love a home game on Labor Day weekend. Moving the game to Thursday or Friday would be fine with me. But of course, I'll be there regardless of the date.
An August 31st kickoff at 12pm (bad) vs 7pm (good) is an early one.Could be any time, really. The prevailing thought on this message board that noon = bad game is false. Could just as well be a 7pm game.
But yea, almost guaranteed BTN. Time is anyone’s guess

I think with a FCS team on this particular date it is a consideration.I’m talking about the quality of game itself. The OP speculates cause we’re playing Howard it’s likely a noon game. This is false

Haven’t looked at the rest of the B1G schedule for that day so not sure who we’re up against. But would imagine our game is not one that will dictate a priority (3:30pm, night game or even Friday night) kickoff time.
So yeah, I think it does have something to do with a TV time.
Later in the season a 12pm game would be considered by many B1G fans as a “good” time. But the last week in August…nah.
To this fanbase they are.🤷♂️But 3:30 and 7pm are not “priority kickoff times”…despite what many here think.
To this fanbase they are.🤷♂️
As I said before, B1G fans like (or don’t seem to mind) the 12pm game. Same for the folks in charge of TV. We collectively do not.
Would love that to be true.BTN often has multiple games in the same slots in the early weeks. I doubt that care which timeslot this game is in. It will be up to Rutgers. Prediction: 6:30 PM.

It's not just Big Ten fans. The folks in media have learned that noon games are money makers. The Big Ten had the top ranked regular season games ratings all at noon. Including the Michigan - Ohio State out ranked the Orange Bowl which has the stage by themselves. To this fanbase they are.🤷♂️

I'll take a nooner on Saturday over a Friday night game. Friday nights are for HS football and mid majors like MAC and AAC teams. It's not just Big Ten fans. I don't know why people keep fighting it. We wanted to be in the Big Ten so we should embrace their tradition of noon games.
I covered that in my post. And the “tradition” had to do with many of tbe stadiums not having lights. It's not just Big Ten fans. The folks in media have learned that noon games are money makers. Me too.I'll take a nooner on Saturday over a Friday night game. Friday nights are for HS football and mid majors like MAC and AAC teams.
Not having lights has nothing to do with noon starts (actually 11am for some schools). It's a preferred time for TV and the fans. Temporary lights have been used for decades. I believe OSU and Michigan installed permanent lights around 2019. (Rumored to have been paid by ESPN) however they had many night games before that.I covered that in my post. And the “tradition” had to do with many of tbe stadiums not having lights.
Me too.
But HS shouldn’t be playing LDW anyway.
It’s the only non Saturday I’m cool with.
Yes it did. The 11am kickoff only came about because of TV.Not having lights has nothing to do with noon starts (actually 11am for some schools). It's a preferred time for TV and the fans. NASCAR used to be 1pm. Then the TV partners killed the sport.
I'll take a noon game over a night game every time.
The NFL smartened up and moved the opening weekend to after Labor Day in 2001. College should do the same but because of $$ it will never happen.
Good guess on the time.BTN often has multiple games in the same slots in the early weeks. I doubt that care which timeslot this game is in. It will be up to Rutgers. Prediction: 6:30 PM.
So close, but nobody got the Thursday night!Would love that to be true.
