It sucks being a Rutgers fan

RU needs to first hire a playoff/championship caliber AD, one who has worked at a program that has experienced major success. From there, that AD needs to hire playoff/championship caliber head coaches.
That AD better had connections to some deep pockets. We are going to need that to compete in a semi-pro world.

I side with Bac as opposed to this just happy to be in a bowl game crowd, we need to stop embracing mediocrity and stop saying stuff like “we almost won”….screw that noise, weak mentality like we never think it’s possible to do better than 6-6 or 7-5.

On the bright side of being a Rutgers fan, Basketball with our 2 5* recruits play Columbia next week and then onto B1G play! Oh wait .........

Well, at least out Women's basketball team with it 5* recruit ....... oh, nevermind.

You know Schiano will have final say about who the AD will be, right ? He’s not picking anyone who will challenge his authority or expect more of him.

Do we win if Kyle Monangai plays?
Does Kyle Monangai make tackles for the defense out on the edges and sidelines? Kyle always helps and it would have been better having him but don’t see how he would have made a difference since inability to stop plays to the outside is what killed them.

Jeez we lost a meaningless bowl game by 3. Lighten up. Future is bright.
Bright for our Offense yes.
Have you actually taken a look at what we are losing on Defense?
We will need to have young 1st and 2nd year players to step in and have huge impacts or these runaway scores will be more the norm.

It’s disappointing but people need to stop with the self absorbed whining. The team is competitive, Kansas St was one of the favorites to win the B1G 12 this year and RU was very close to beating them. We need more speed on defense. More athletic LBs and DBs. Need some explosive DEs. Offensively, need to keep getting better up front. The skill players on offense are getting there. RU is not going to be a playoff caliber program but we can get to a major bowl in the next 3-4 years.
Just 4 years?! That’s it? Looking forward to 2028!!

Fact is Kansas State finished 8th in the Big 12 this year. 8th. And they were playing back-ups at RB and WR. Few RU Fans will see this game as a positive. Especially since we lost 2 other games this season in similar fashion.

I guess that is why we all love each other on this board. The misery our alma mater brings loves the company even when we are pissed off at each other. 🤷‍♂️

Don’t forget about us schleps who didn’t even go to RU but can’t get the Jersey out even though we moved away…

AD needs to come from Wall Street. Need to find a way to get to the corporate $.

Eh - honestly, most fans didn’t care that much about the actual Rate game outcome. The future of the D is a concern but with Greg I’m more comfortable betting on us getting that side of the ball sorted out. Can we replace Pierce on the OL? That’s my big question. He’s a huge loss.

That's one way of looking at K State.
They lost 29-21 to 10-3/7-2 Iowa State, who played in the Big 12 Championship Game
They lost 24-14 to Big 12 champion and CFP #4 Seed Arizona State
They lost 38-9 to 10-2/7-2 BYU
They also lost to Houston.
But they did beat 9-3/7-2 Colorado, Kansas, West Virginia and a solid Tulane team.

They were no cupcakes. Stop with the backups at RB. Their running game is obviously solid, same as Rutgers.
And I don't see losses as a positive. Losing sucks, even to good teams.

Losing is never good but big picture this game was meaningless. To me it validated that the offense is heading in the right direction but needs a few more pieces of refinement. D needs reconstruction which Greg is good at. We’ll enter next season better positioned at QB than we have arguably since before we moved to the BIG (recall Nova was coming off a terrible bowl performance in 2014).

The "future has been bright" since 2006, and nothing essentially changes from year to year as we lurk from one mediocre season to another. And 7-6 in your fifth year as a coach is nothing to write home about. The truth is that Schiano is a .500 coach, and it is unlikely that this will change at any point in the future. He is who he is.
And every other coach we've hired since Graber is far below .500 coach. I'll take it.

This is part of the of the problem with our program. Fans that don’t believe we can be a playoff caliber program. You best believe we can and we will.
Oh I Believe! I know this school and program can be! The only thing I believe more is Greg is DEFINITELY not the guy to get us there.

Maybe schiano bet us to cover so he could raise funds for NIL donations next year.

Ill be dead before the sleeping giant ever even begins to wake up. At least that phrase has been permanently buried. We are a program of mediocrity. Always will be.
Very true! The only way this can change is if people wake up to these facts and demand better. Until that day comes............OH WELL.

So true, my son said “man that sports program is cursed” when I told him about KSU game, I said tell me something I haven’t known for 33 years.
Al Capp would say we are the Joe Btfsplk of Div-1 college athletics.

Rutgers fans will feel the pain unless it turns into a top program.
Top programs receive a lot of support from their boosters and receive payments in wins
The Rutgers football program's fans get what they paid for.🤬

Well, it was true ... at one time. We were a sleeping giant in a landscape where, after winning (which used to be the paramount concern for recruiting), the remaining top selling points for recruiting were playing time, preparation for the NFL, proximity to home, playing top opponents and media attention. We could provide those desired features to many top recruits (and still can).

But now money is the singular focus for the four and five star players. And we cannot deliver on that (and won't be able to in the future). So anyone continuing to refer to us as a sleeping giant is whistling past the graveyard. That's not going to change unless (and until) the Big 10 and SEC merge into a superconference, implement a salary cap, and freeze all the other schools out.

I wouldn't say "mediocrity". The 2025 recruiting class has enough talent in it to take RU to a good place if we can repeat it in 2026 and 2027. We should be able to compete with everybody in our league with the exception of Ohio State, Michigan, and Pedd State. Rutgers doesn't have the resources to compete with those three. People in New Jersey just don't care enough about Rutgers football. And I doubt they ever will. I talk to a lot of college football fans in the state. Most of them root for other college football teams. They don't hate RU or root against them. They just recognize the reality of the ceiling for Rutgers football.
And most of them laugh at the idea that Rutgers can ever compete on a regular basis with the Big Boys. Or that Schiano isn't a good coach. And that someone better would come here...and stay for long.

Well, there needs to be a culture centered around success that fans can trust first before people are willing to spend money on the program. People won't want to donate if they think RU is only going to be as good as Nebraska or Illinois at their full potential.

Not to mention that there are plenty of other teams that have NIL funding who aren't much better than RU. What we need is a more supportive fan base with a team that gives people something to believe in before we can ask for NIL. Just like PSU, Clemson, ND, anyone in the SEC really, etc.

The Results of our AD banging staff. predictable, it’s how Rutgers rolls..

I can’t wait for the next Rutgers President and AD AA hires from Governor Murphy

Kyle would have changed that. Often his best quarter.
My take is we would have done the exact same stupid thing in second half with KM but, maybe, just maybe, he'd break enough tackles or cause a slowdown of the pass rush to a degree where we'd get a few first downs and run more clock and we'd win by a small margin.

Check your facts. A back up RB shredded Rutgers Defense yesterday. He was 18th in the B12 in rushing this season. KSU Starting RB Giddens declared for the draft and opted out of the game . Was number 4 in the B12 Rushing this year. Also starting DB Parish opted out in prep for the Draft. And some 12 players {?) were in the Portal. And KSU lost 3 out of their last 4 games this season. They are not the team you and others are dreaming about. BTW Tulane sucks.

IDGAS if he was a backup. He averaged 5 carries a game. You could say the same about RU's RB. The kid is a stud RB.

This.
I think our RB performance can actually be better next season. Raymond is the real deal. Benjamin a good change of pace. The Transfer RB looks good. If Samuel Brown returns healthy… who can get the power yardage when needed…….. look out. We know the Passing game should be near the top of the B1G : AK, Strong, Duff, Black, Fletcher, the transfer Slot Receiver.
I have a genuine fear about our Defense next season. The player departures are brutal. With next year’s schedule 6 wins would be very satisfying. 7 wins or better unexpected but welcomed!!!!

Totally agree on RU running game next year and the offense in general, but not sure about Brown.
But I was talking about K- State's stud RB. He got very few carries during the regular season because their starter was such a stud. The K-State RB who started yesterday is going to light it up next year. We can agree to disagree and see how he is next year.

The only problem with that is that I can't moan about the way the defense played the other day vs. Kansas State and then bemoan the fact that so many of them are leaving. K. State was faster. And our defense couldn't deal with that.
I think some of the freshmen will see lots of action in 2025.

Some truth to that, but the way I look at it is that Rutgers is the plain girl that couldn't get any OnlyFans followers but is good marriage material. That's ok even if a little boring. Greg gets good and likeable players with some being NFL caliber. There is always a critical weakness somewhere - like the new looking shopping cart with the funky wheel you have to fight with.

I think Schiano's RU peaked in 2006 and crashed in 2010 just before he left (2010 burned him out a bit I think - wasn't surprised he left after 2011). GS is almost 60 and I cant see any titles coming. I cant see another major team hiring GS. Like the marriage to a good wife, you settle in and be happy with what you have. That's not a bad thing these days. Just cant pretend RU is going to turn into Sydney Sweeney some day. "We'll get there" is more and more a fairy tale each year.

This fanbase loves mediocrity. I see posts on the premium raving about tonights offense performance and the future of our young guys..what the ****
No,maybe it's just real fans who love RU, unlike some pseudo fans who "love" to criticize . You'd be so disappointed if you had little to bitch about.

Until someone drops a 8 to 9 figure donation on us .....this is who we are. win some ..lose some maybe get to a bowl once in a while.. been a fan for 56 yrs and stopped dreaming of championships years ago. Been happy with what we have .
