Why have the ball in his hands? He dribbles way too much and slows the offense down. I guess Pike likes this ?
That was a bizarre possession. Up four like you said. Obviously they wanted to kill some shot clock but he had ball at top of key and for some reason just stood there dribbling and became a clear out iso for him as clock got to ten. As it was developing I said to myself What's going on here??
This game was like so many others during the season.The defense can't stop opponents from scoring easy layups.The offense has a long scoring drought which puts Rutgers in a catch up mode for most of the first half.There is no go to scorer at crunch time to make shots that win games.Harper and Bailey are very talented but they didn't make their team better .The coaching staff did a poor job in teaching fundamentals at both ends of the court.Roster formation failed in having a center rim protector and having scoring threats from the 3 point line.There is no question that this season will rank as one of the most disappointing in the history of Rutgers basketball.
Wasn't it JWill who caused the turnover that Acuff dribbled off his foot on a breakaway?

At the end of the 1st OT, with RU having the last possession and a TO, any other P4 coach calls the timeout. However, perhaps Pike was thinking he didn't prepare his team enough to guarantee a successful inbounds

Acuff missed wide open 3 to seal game in regulation. That right there was the game.

Overrate then over hate, is a theme here I think.
Had we replaced him this past offseason so his role was significantly reduced, he would have performed adequately in his reduce rule and people would view him and his contributions favorably.

If we're looking to bring in 3pt shooting, wouldnt it make more sense to put the shooter on the floor with Dylan and utilize the additional space as the defense focuses on Ace/Dylan.
If Dylan will has the ball, JWill isn't offering much of a shooting threat off ball.
Let JWill come off the bench and run the offense while Dylan sits.
JWill takes the Simpson role.
Offer a bigger role to a potential transfer guard and maybe we get a high caliber player than if offering a bench role.”

anyone who plays that hard i will always root for. some of the same guys who hate the transfer portal are so quick to tell RU guys to GTFO the moment they hit a rough patch.
if he wants to come back we should welcome him with open arms. and yeah...to get back to where we all want to be his role would almost certainly have to be reduced. but if he's ok with that we should be thrilled a team captain in his third year of the program wants to come back.
Careful of what you wish for. You need to know what his price tag is and what other players are staying and going.

sorry j will is not good..another hyatt type...a few players here and there but doesnt help the program
did you see enough last night...no because its all about defense for him you at least 4 late offensive blunders that directly caused the loss
stop making excuses for him....he ****ed up in huge spots last night and he hasnt been good all season long
He is fine as a PG and a leader splitting time with jaMike. Spend the rest of the coin elsewhere.
Would I like better PGs? YES. This is 2025 and everything needs to be looked in context to the cost. A significant upgrade at PG could blow most of our budget.
BIG CAVEAT.....I don't follow recruiting and I have no idea what we have coming in. That is obviously part of the equation.

My big takeaway....Derkack and Martini just 1 game ago were good enough where they could be in the game in crunch time. USC can't handle pressure, our guys are fatigues, JWill plays 42 minutes. Derkack and Martini don't see the floor. How can you be good enough to play in crunch time the game before but not play in the next game when guys are absolutely gassed.
I am one of the biggest Pike guys here, but a lot of things about this season are worrying me.
he isnt fine and you know it. in fact he probably provides less than Hyatt...he provides zero leadership as well and time and time again will make the wrong play
i agree with that..pathetic...he doesnt want to sacrifice his body and to me that means he isnt a great college player
i think Pike rode them because he thought he was threading the needle and they could get the win. Unfortunately Ace fouling out made a big difference. I too think Martini could have seen some time later in the 2nd half
why is Pike having J Will green light to shoot at such an important possession in regulation...why is pike inbounding 2x to J will..why does pike still consistently put out teams who cannot inbound to save their lives
the bottom line is this team is poorly coached and lets just face it..it sucks...sure they made a comeback with an adjustment but same movie as all year long......no real grit and soft...big nba star fails again in big spots like he has all year long. USC was beat last night...i was giving Pike credit for that defensive adjusments..no reason to lose that game once we took control. We played incompetant in the last 2 minutes which is the story of the season...still had a chance in overtime but shit the bed again in crunch time....did you listen to the claude interview post game....breath of fresh air compared to our guys

You can live w him for the year if he's the guy that brings the ball up and then distributes to those w offensive ability, and plays D. He serves zero purpose off the ball. Ideally do you want to upgrade him, yes. With so many spots that need help, he may be needed as a known entity. I don't think he's staying though.
If we have a budget of $2,000,000 (making sh1t up because I have no idea). Jwill gets $50,000 and JaMike gets $25,000 and you now have $1,925,000 to spend elsewhere

Spend $700,000 on a Top 10 portal PG and have only $1,300,000 left to fill the roster. PLEASE don't blow it on lathan.

That was Pike's fault. Probably thought give it to experienced older leader but he should have gotten it to Dylan or Lathan

I think that JWill is there somewhere.....should make a huge difference Year 3, being 24? years old, not having Ace and Dylan around. I think we have a different JWill.
Big problem doesn't go away.....he can't shoot in a sport where guards must be able to shoot.
He will be better if he comes back bc it will be a better fit
