I mean even in last seconds getting pocket picked. Sorry but does not bring anything and don’t say defense. Yeah I’m happy but he doesn’t deserve to take minutes From McConnell, Mulcahy, etc

And yet you ignore the two horrible passes by Mulcahy in the last few minutes and getting beat off the dribble at will.

He is the best on ball defender at guard. He is just pressing too much in offense and trying to do too much instead of letting the action come to him.

He is a very frustrating player to watch. He is a ball hog, turnover machine and can’t shoot. I’m not saying that there isn’t a place for his defense and foul shooting but he needs to know his limits and not try to do things he's not capable of.

His D in the first half was a way bigger plus than his offensive struggles an turnovers. Harper had way more bad plays on O, but he added some big points and superior D too. Harper is very close to being a black whole when the ball is passed to him. The ball rarely comes back out if he gets the ball inside the ark. He is going to drive in and try to force a shot off somehow. He lost the ball, fouled. or got stuffed more times than I can count. Fortunately SHU was not able to capitalize on his turnovers. His D and rebounding was a big reason why.

Pike told him his D will give him game time. His offensive strategy appears to be ignoring his teammates. Hopefully, he will become a team player or probably find the bench.

Great win, but doesn't negate that Young needs to sit. 1/6 shooting, 5 turnovers, and 1 assist. He's taking minutes from more deserving players. Surely that doesn't help morale. Hopefully the game slows down for him, but I just don't see it.

His on ball D keeping Powell off balance out weighed his offensive deficiencies IMHO. It would have been a different game if Powell got hot.

Defense is good

But no excuse for being a ball HOG.

Should be EASY to fix this.
He just needs to be unselfish and, as Pike says, “SHARE THE GAME!!”

Yeah 5 Turnovers and 1 Assit with 1/6 and 2 air balls is a great stat line. Don’t even compare him and mulcahy. No comparison. Mulcahy true Frosh in 10th game I’ll take every day of week over Young

I didn't compare him to Mulcahy, but Mulcahy could have never covered Powell.

Agreed that he needs to give up the ball more/most of the time.

To be fair, Hiwater, Harper is still in the early part of his sophomore season. Young had two years at Texas and a year here in practice. Harper was 7 of 16 for 18 points; 5 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal, a block and 3 turnovers. Young was 1 for 6 with 2 rebounds, an assist and 5 turnovers. Young has been like that all year. His minutes will diminish as Mulcahy improves, and he will see spot duty as a defensive stopper. He is a liability on offense.

Agreed - he was certainly better than Mulachy today and just needs to play more in control. And yes, his defense was great today.

I can see Pike's justification. You gotta give the guy a chance to figure it out and have faith in him. Keep his confidence up. He also gives the other guys a breather while keeping the pressure on the opponent. I think physically he has the ability to contribute. Obviously, he just has to make smarter plays.

Times when I'm okay with him taking the shot, he passes into traffic. Times when he is blanketed, he goes for a shot. He's overthinking it. It's like he seeks the storm and is anxious in the calm. Just needs to let the game come to him

Always love when people use garbage time at the end of a blowout to try and make a point about a player.

I agree with everyone pointing out his defensive contributions but he becomes twice as valuable if he can just play within the offense. It’s as simple as Pike delivering the directive to just play slower and pass more

I think he’s trying to live up to his four star billing, but the truth is that he’s not a four star player. His value is within his own control. Stop forcing the issue and taking bad shots and he automatically becomes more valuable.

this...if he can do this, then he should get minutes and it will help the team. If he keeps doing what he is doing, he will soon find himself with less than 10 minutes played per game

2 points...1 if those poor passes was because he drove to the baseline looking back to pass in the lane with nobody coming thru and got stuck...note..looking to pass

2, you are comparing. 4th year player vs. Frosh in his 10th (?) Game at this level.

I thought young 1st half was solid. Then the score put him back into poor habits. He didn't launch a three? I think he's getting the plan.

You don’t think he is a ball hog even in the last minute when he refuses to pass to the glue guys who run scout team?

Whenever you watch a game on TV and the subs who almost never play are in, the crowd often goes crazy rooting for 1 of them to shoot and score.

Young NEVER passes in that situation.

Kind of tells you tells you about his “teamwork” and self awareness.

SELFISH

Just stop. Garbage time was the last 1 min and 8 seconds. The team ran out the clock and took only one shot. Mulchahey had the ball in his hands most of that time. Young has become the board's target this year. His perimeter defense was superior and one of the reasons Powell was nullified in the first half. He also moved the ball during the game. Enjoy the dominating win and stop fng complaining.

Nope
Nice try

They had 1 shot because ball hog Young drove the lane 1 on 1 and of course turned it over.

PASS THE DAMN BALL SO A GUY WHO WORKS HIS ASS OFF IN PRACTICE CAN GET A SHOT DURING A GAME.

Young made a nice drive and dish 1st half. Potential is there. I believe he will get better and better as the season goes on this.

This kid has the green light from pike for a reason. And is being given a lot of latitude .

I think Pike knows he will play though it and figure it out ...

I think the coaches and play time will help him figure it out.

Yes sometimes Young can be cringe worthy but we need to be patient. We held SHU to 48 its and he was part of the formula that made that happen today.
I still think he will fill a valuable role this year.

Young played fantastic defense on Powell, and overall, this afternoon. His value as a defender is keeping him on the floor.

He had 1 assist and 5 turnovers, and 2 were offensive fouls that turned the ball over (one where he was going full speed 1 vs 4). Somehow Pike has to nip that in the bud. If Young played within himself and valued the ball more, he'd be able to complement his strong defense with much better minutes on the other end.

Edit: Offensive fouls are already counted as turnovers.

We struggled so much on D against quick guards. Just need to keep the ball out of his hands more on offense. Let Paul run the offense. Go inside to Myles. Etc.

Him and Paul need to switch minutes.

Jacob - 18 mins / 1-6 / 5 TO / 2 PTS

Paul - 13mins / 0-1 / 2 TO / 2 PTS

Turnovers.

I really saw his value on defense last Sunday against Winston. I knew then there was a role for him. Saw it again today against Powell. But he needs to get better at making decisions on the other end. You can't have 5 TO's even if you are playing starter's minutes.

While he may be the worst offender right now, I thought there were a few situations where our guys made up their minds to take it to the basket and wound up in obvious charging situations. They just need to watch the tape and learn.

Shocking to say his role model may be Mathis. Only 1/3 thru season and it looks like Mathis maturity has done a 180. He actually makes or tries to make the right decision in transition (loved the simple bounce pass to Caleb). It seems like he has accepted his role of 18-22 minutes and not be a focal part of the half court offense.
