There was a lot of chatter preseason about JMike apparently taking a big step forward and for most of the year we were disappointed. In his last three games he has averaged roughly…

10 points
3 rebounds
4 assists
2.66 steals
Only 1 turnover

Obviously three games is not a great sample size, but certainly a nice little trend, which would be a huge boost for this team down the stretch if it continues.

The man deserves a tip of the cap.

JMike is the personification of "progress is not linear." But you can definitely see that some of his bad habits -- most principally his penchant for driving into the trees and getting shots blocked -- have been coached out of his play or at least reduced. I've noticed several times in this three-game stretch where he drove into the lane but then backed out when he realized that he had little chance of successfully getting to the rim.

He's just been a steadying force and is making things happen, without the extreme negatives that has often come with his play. Now if he could just get better at free throws...

He has really improved his turnovers and shot selection. Keep taking wide open threes and open layups. Otherwise, drive / kick to the players we want shooting and play lights out defense. I’ve been impressed with his improvements in the second half of the season.

He's young. Player development and experience seem to be kicking in. There is potential for him to be a big contributor next season...
Retention is critical for Pikes and RU's success. Jmike's improvement makes one wonder where Ogbole would be if he didn't get sidelined as he too was showing signs of development.

Having a returning foundation of JMike, Grant, Dortsch, Sommerville, Ogbole Derkack and JWill would be a great start for 25/26.

JMike has played much better these last 3 games especially the Michigan game but he was not playing well for the first 20 games. So let’s not anoint him.
1) His on ball pressure and disruption of the other team’s guard to delay them getting into their sets has improved lately ;
2) He had to improve but most fight over screens more as he was terrible for most of the year. The more he can anticipate the screen the less pick and roll buckets we give up ;
3) His assists have been steady and he like all the guards have to pass the ball down to the block if ACE or Lathan is posting down there.
4) Driving under control and making layups have improved. The other night ‘s coast to coast layup and hard take getting fouled was his best drive of the year.
5) He is definitely more confident in his shot and has been putting up a lot of shots on practice. His stroke looks good so his hitting a 3 a game would be very helpful for the team.
6) Condistency. 3 games ago only had 5 points but 8 assists ; 2 games ago , 20 points and 4 assists ; last game , 4 points and 4 assists . If he could give us 8 points every night with 4 assists and limit his turnovers , Next 8 games , he has to bring it every night. Dylan and ACE are going to be doubled a lot so he has to step up and then his sophomore season will be a success.

Progress is rarely linear except in the minds of the hundreds of yo-yo's here that think they understand basketball and player development. You got to let them learn from their mistakes in order to get better. Jacob Young is another prime example.

I, too, have noticed how he's pulled the ball back out after initially driving into the paint and the lane closing on him. He's also shot the ball better from behind the arc during this stretch as well as setting career highs for points and assists in separate games.

Lots with egg on their face with the many bad takes on him. Probably some of the same people that trashed Mulcahy & McConnell early in their careers. They never learn.

Honestly he may be playing 30+ minutes per game next season and may wind up accumulating tremendous career numbers. He’s no longer forcing shots at the basket (with rare exceptions).

Proud of the kid - playing well and has definitely learned a great deal - he’s the kind of player we need to keep out of portal to keep continuity and system experience.
Really impressed with how much of a leader he’s turned into in just his second year. You can see him out there always being vocal and talking the other guys up. Should have a C on his chest next year in my opinion.

The one turnover is the most impressive stat.

Not sure how good we'll be if JWill s a returning starter.

Love when I see him do that. Huge progress. Let the offense reset and get a better shot. Don’t force it.
