For all that knock JMike's 3 Point shooting, He is now at .341 which is fourth best on the team ahead of Harper's .327. Considering his better than 4 to 1 assist to turnover ratio its absurd that JWill, who is totally out of control, starts and plays more minutes than him.

I have not been a big JMike fan, but he has converted me here recently. He plays more under control than before, doesn’t make as many negative plays as he once did, and is getting better at making shots near the rim and jumpers. He plays more in control than JWill who just recklessly races around the court like a squirrel on Meth chasing around for a nut. At this point, just start JMike and flip JWill’s minutes to JMike and JWill gets the number of minutes JMike was getting off the bench.

Surprised no comments.
There is no reason for me to comment on a team that is so thoroughly a disappointment. I was at the game (season ticket holder). They flat out folded and quit in the 2nd half. Pikiell's post-game was another relentless nothing-burger of "what a great team they are" and "the poor performance is on me". No shit Sherlock. And, Iowa is not a good team.

He certainly has improved on the offensive end. His defense seems to have gone in the other direction however. He has had a lot of trouble keeping his man in front of him, it seems anytime they want to get into the lane they can get him on their hip.

He has definitely shot better from deep.
While I was skeptical after the 4/7 game - he has kept it up the last 2 games.
He did drive into the lane and get blocked into the 6th row again.

But got some good layups cutting behind drives.

JMike is the kind of kid you need. He's got some irrational confidence in him. When I said all off season he would play more than people think, I really thought it would be at JWill expense. I would not have expected him to be behind Derkack in minutes, who i had no expectations on.

Hello!

After the last four games he's played, 11 minutes is ridiculous.
He had the perfect matchup too last night that #2 small like him and he was the only one who could stay with him; this all goes with our lineups/rotations they just suck; why are you automatically taking out Grant 3 minutes into each half and burying him on the bench he was the only one rebounding

JWill is terrible, is to interested in clowning around, and is done after this year. IMO that equals zero minutes.
Yep. No reason for Jwill to be playing any more than 9-10 minutes a game max. He’s a distraction and net loss.

He must have naked photos of pike. Because I can’t imagine sitting in film session and thinking this guy is what I want out there.

Pike has been horrific with rotations this year, really bad year for him in that department. We are 25 games into a 31 game season (80% complete) and he has still not figured out an 8 to 9 man core group with established roles and minutes. Grant could get 27 minutes or 15, who knows? JMike?!?! Maybe he gets 24 or maybe he gets 11?! Acuff?!?! SURPRISE TYSON!!! You get 16 minutes tonight even though you only played 3 and 4 minutes the last 2 games, but 3 games ago we gave you 21 minutes!!! Russian Roulette substitution game has arrived in Piscataway!!! How fun!!! Spin the spinnin’ wheel and wherever it lands that’s who gets to play I guess……ride a painted pony and let the spinnin’ wheel spin as was once said.

The reason for this inability to settle on a consistent 8-man rotation is that most of the players have flaws, so Pike has to play the guys in individual games who can match up to the other team's style. As just one example, Hayes and Acuff get almost no playing time against athletic teams but are back on the court against a more comparable (athleticism-wise) team in Iowa.

This is 100% on Pike for the guys he got from the portal. Compare this to Maryland, who brought in 3 dawgs to start at guard/wing and who can both score and defend.

I agree with you 100% about game matchups, but Pike has done an awful job of EVALUATING what he has on the roster (poorly as he constructed it) and then utilizing said roster. He was far too slow to turn to Grant this season and increase his minutes. He is in real time, still ongoing right before our eyes currently, too slow to giving JMike more run as he has turned a corner and improved his game by making more positive plays than negative plays. He only played 11 minutes last night. Once again, 11 minutes. Acuff is one of the few on this team that can make a 3. No one plays defense, so why should Pike single out Acuff as too much of a defensive liability to get on the floor?? Everyone is a defensive liability on this roster in their own unique, snowflake type of way. Does Acuff move like a 50 year old? Absolutely, no one can argue that he is not a liability on defense. But Hayes and Martini are too and also move like 50 year olds. My point is, Pike still doesn’t know who his 8 or 9 best guys are to play, what roles players can actually perform for the team and he should have figured that out by now as we have arrived at the end of the season. His roster construction was terrible, but once he was stuck with this bad roster he created, he has done another equally bad job of managing the rotation and roles of the bad roster.

Jmike has, by a few percentage points, the lowest TS% on the team on incredibly low usage. Even during this acclaimed 5-game stretch he's 43% from two-point range and 40% from the line.

On a team that's going to desperately need shot creation and scoring next year, I just don't think he can provide it meaningfully.

18+ minutes per game isn't INCREDIBLY low usage. Try again. Also, this team doesn't need shot creation as much as it needs an offense that gets good shots. Knight goes after this year, Pikiel after next, if that long. Definitely Knight at the end of this year.

Well, the one guy everyone wants back, Grant, is barely higher at TS% and he's got a higher usage. JMike isn't forcing things, let him continue to improve. We'll need everyone next year.

Minutes isn't usage

JMike continues to improve his game.

He's only a true soph

Want him back next year.
What happened to his harassing defense this year and staying in front of his man? His defense has regressed as his main role defensively is to harass the other team’s point guard so that their offense is disrupted. He has done a terrible job this year doing what was originally earning him minutes. Why?

No idea why his defense seems to have slipped a little, but I dont agree its as bad as you suggest.

Regardless, I definitely want him back next year.

No one's defense will look good when the help defense behind it is awful. I'd venture to guess his D is very similar, it just much more noticeable when guys get beat now.

He gets beat now and doesn’t close out on his guy either. He also used to be right up on the point guard making it harder to get screened but he has allowed himself to get screened easily this year. He gives pressure in the backcourt and then backs off, which still allows offense to run whatever they want. Not disruptive anymore.

He will be playing at St Joseph’s next year and I will be happy for him
Players can go back to HS ? Since when ? He's probably a better fit at SJ Metuchen than Montvale. JWill is better in every aspect except for maybe 3 pt shooting, emphasis on maybe.

He's playing his man to tight 30 feet from the basket for starters.

Much easier to be disruptive when you know you can count on the help behind you, and have rim protection.

I'm pretty sure JMike's assist to turnover ratio is better, and that's the best measure of a PG. JWill does have much better fall down and clown around rates, I'll give you that. We're better off if he doesn't come back. Just interested - what are all those aspects of the game that JWill is better at?

He’s not a PG. None of them are. He’s a shot hunter who can’t shoot. Williams is much better scorer, albeit closer the hoop, you know, the area where Davis gets either stuffed or flat out bricks a bunny several times a game.
