Marburg's head coach Augie Stevens has made a real stroke of luck by signing quarterback Johnathan Lewis, which will cause a lot of excitement in the regional league.
Lewis played for the renowned Rutgers Scarlet Knights college team from 2017 to 2020 and faced such major teams as Michigan State, Nebraska and Ohio State. He was named “Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week” and no Rutgers quarterback had ever managed his four rushing touchdowns in a game before him.
Before Lewis chose Rutgers, he also had offers from Georgia, Iowa, Boston College, Wake Forest and Temple due to his outstanding high school performance. He collected numerous honors during this time such as All State QB, Best QB in New Jersey, and 16th Best Dual-Threat Quarterback in the Country by 247 Sports. ESPN named him a top 25 recruit from New Jersey, Scout named him the best QB in New Jersey and the No. 2 QB recruit in the Eastern United States. In his senior season of high school, he threw for 1,557 yards and 10 touchdowns and ran for 992 yards and 21 touchdowns...

Due to an injury and a coaching change at Rutgers in 2019, he was converted to tight end and played at that position in the final five games of his senior season in 2020. Lewis is now fit again and would like to build on his previous quarterback performances in Marburg. Stevens therefore expects a lot from him: “Johnathan comes from an extremely well-coached background, starting in high school and continuing through college. His experience playing college football at the highest levels is a valuable resource that he will provide as a mentor to our players. He has been a fighter throughout his football career, fighting through adversity, and I am thrilled to give him the chance to continue his QB career here in Europe. He has enormous potential and we believe this opportunity can be his big moment.”

In addition to the coaches and the environment, the special atmosphere with the castle and the old town was another reason for Lewis to come to Marburg: “I'm really looking forward to the scenery in Marburg, the whole history surrounding the old buildings and the city. My goal is of course to win a championship and get promoted with the Mercenaries. I also want to make lots of new contacts while I'm there. I just want to let everyone know that I'm there to win and make sure we have a lot of fun doing it."

Good for him.
The public resume being handed out might be a little embellished ,
but Johnathan did anything the RU coaches asked him to, even though
he didn't get in the game very often

The team also looked briefly at two local products. Tomas der Einspruch and Kenny Streikposten, but had their sights set on Lewis from the start.

Well, In Europe- Rutgers is considered pretty renowned as a University. Often just assumed to be an Ivy.

That's the general perception the farther you get from NJ.
yup- son worked for a company a few years back HQ in London and during their Sales kickoff over there- they are introducing people and sort of glossed over a couple of Mich/OSU/PSU guys and introduced Rutgers as Ivy and well esteemed over the other boring American schools. - he didn't bother to correct them...and he was too big for any of the other guys to call it out. hahaha

Hard to think of a worse nickname than the Mercenaries. Maybe has a different meaning in Germany.
