"When I look at a place that is 24-hour accessible to the players, I think of Indiana’s practice facility. But I don’t think Indiana’s practice facility is as good as Rutgers’ and you know Indiana is a blue blood in college basketball."

"It’s a facilities race in college basketball and you have to have the bells and whistles to attract the top talent. Rutgers is uniquely positioned, in my mind, to be a destination place for players out of the Northeastern area and other areas as well. ... That facility is only going to enhance what Pikiell is doing.”

People really don't understand the definition of unique, or in this case, uniquely.

There is some uniqueness to Rutgers. We're the only "major" conference school within 3 hours of NYC, if being from the B1G/ACC/B12/P12/SEC is a meaningful distinction when you also have a school like Villanova not much further away (and to a lesser extent SHU, SJU, UConn, etc).

And the only state university that I can think of that’s not named for the state it’s in. I hope that never changes.

Certainly, but "uniquely positioned, in my mind, to be a destination place for players out of the Northeastern area and other areas as well."

So in his mind, because of a practice facility, Rutgers is the one school, the only school, "positioned to be a destination place for players out of the Northeastern area and other areas as well?"

Like basic girls say: Really? Really?

Cool deal. Someone says something nice about Rutgers to essentially talk them up a bit and you become the Rivals forum negative semantics police. Maybe those same basic girls were really saying ......"Get a Life".

I expect more from a journalist. Two of my pet peeves are people that use "apart of" when they should use "a part of" and people (especially media) who misuse "unique" and forms of the word "unique." Like when an announcer says "they have a very unique offense." You don't need 'very' since unique means one of a kind.

Draw a 40 mile circle around Rutgers and it probably has one of if not the highest population out of any power 6 school.

Flagship for STEM is definitely Purdue. IU is well recognized for all of the other disciplines. The state is quite polarized on the schools. While not a state school, Notre Dame also gets a ton of props.

I just got home from Terre Haute and my sons' swim meet. ISU is not mentioned by almost anyone.

Thank you and interesting.

Just for S&G I went to Wikipedia.

Here's their page on flagship Universities.

Except that Stephen Bardo is not a journalist. He's a former athlete turned analyst. Essentially an opinion guy.

Given the list as it is, what made the state of New Mexico unique with having both UNM and NMSU represented? In reality many other states have two public flagship systems, but only a few states where one is not really considered a "flagship" and completely secondary to the one recognized as the primary flagship.

That's true but I didn't question school population so what does that have to do with my post?
