Julie H and Who she Brings in to Replace Donnigan

So Mama you are definitely in the fire Donigan side. I know you know soccer really well do you have a top candidate or a top 3 who you would like to replace him?

"Reading comprehension" is your friend. I was simply responding to the post that I quoted. I'm well aware of The Bilikens history, thanks, Mama. Also, if you read my post above that (in response to "ag67"), I CLEARLY note that "chemistry" is the single biggest issue in the program, and that it is something, good or bad, which always is the HC's shoulders.

It might seem that way now...
Relax guys...shit happens...it's a message board, not the board room at RU, geeze! e5fdny you should know better my friend!

What did you think I meant? LOL

I hope you realize that the players you listed below - all greats from NJ and at RU - are now all old enough to have kids that are college graduates?

Yeah..Peter Vermes is 47 years old LOL

so for the record..a basketball coach can get 7 years to rebuild...a football coach 5 years,,,and a soccer coach 2 years
got it

Where is this "2 years" coming from? Donnigan has been here 5 years.

LMAO, mikefla has lost it. DD just finished his 5th year, had his best player transfer out last year & appears to have others looking to leave now, & appears to have lost the players & fans. He's had enough time. Begin the search.

For what it's worth. I have heard trough the coaching grapevine that a couple of very significant players may be looking to move on. Nothing directly from any of the players but it came from someone in the coaching loop. This could be an immediate reaction to a difficult year and so it may be an impulsive reaction. It would be however be a terrible blow to the program's image again.

I almost never call for coach's heads, but I admit I am disappointed that Hermann has not let him go yet. This is her first chance to be decisive in this area, and I don't see it happening. I have also been a big supporter of Hermann, but her silence is deafening here.

1. The season just ended.

2. Who knows what is going on behind closed doors on Rockefeller Road.

Patience in the process. She likely did not schedule a evaluation for the week the season ended; probably set it for either next week or after the NCAA's are over. We get to be knee-jerk. She does not. She'll likely speak with the players in addiion to whomever oversees soccer in her department. That will take some time to play out.

Either way, if we keep him or fire him his replacement won't occur until after the NCAA's, as all of the people we should be looking at are likely/ hopefully coaching through early December.

Of course, there is a certain RU alumnus who is coaching in KC and has an open schedule.....maybe he wants to head back to the Banks??!?!?!

"silence is deafening"?? This is an Olympic Sport coach making under $150K a year, not the football or basketball coach, and the season JUST ended. Com'on ag....and the funny thing is, coming from you, a guy who wants another HC around for the next 20 years regardless of what his results are!

...okay, I'm having a LITTLE bit of fun with you there!

* Agree. And not just for Soccer but for Athletics overall.

We might not all agree on indvidual hires/extensions in every sport but I bet over the next few years we will like the general direction we're headed.

I was mulling it over last night, and felt I was a little too hasty - since I don't know what is going on behind the scenes. If she is interviewing players, staff, and other people close to the situation, then she is doing her job the way she should be.

Concerning that other coach, you are exaggerating. I would be happy with a 10 year guaranteed contract, but I think 20 years is taking a little too big a chance.

I know Donnigan is your friend. I thought he was a great hire and was rooting for him to get the job done. However it looks like the program is in free-fall, so I think something has to be done. I can't imagine he is not expecting to be let go. A guy with his background will land on his feet somewhere. I hope he gets another chance to coach, if that is what he wants. His body language seemed to say he was not enjoying himself, so maybe he is looking to move to something like administration.

Listen, Danny's a grown man, and a WINNER of the variety I've known only one other person in my life to be (my cousin, who won The Hermann Trophy way back...), so if RU should choose to move on at this time I'm quite sure he'll handle it very well and completely understand. I, too, would understand and accept any move made after 5 seasons.

I would be a little surprised if we could go all the way through the NCAA Soccer Tournament without announcing a change if we are indeed making one. I thought two weeks after season's end was about right for decision. Should take much longer to make a determination since I assuming the economics in play here are much less significant that FB and BB.

I'll give you three big time coaches from Jersey. Maybe one of them wants to come home. I played with two of them.

1. George Gelnovatch, Virginia
2. Ken Lolla, Louisville
3. Tim Lenahan, Northwestern (The one I think we can get, he brings his team to Jersey almost every year.)

Lenahan is a top 20 in the country type of coach...excellent. Lost today in the first round of the NCAA but always gets them there and NW loves the guy...probably among the highest paid in the country....we are more in the running for head coaches that learned as his assistants...some good ones out there. I don't know why but I sort of think it's frowned upon for B1G schools to try and steal each other's head coaches.

I don't think DD is going anywhere this year for whatever reason. Hopefully the players can pull it together.

I can't imagine what Hermann's reasons could be for sticking with him. If this year's season was a train-wreck, I can't even imagine what next season will be like. Will there be 100 fans in the stadium for each game?

This is coming from a guy who is always accused of sticking with coaches too long.

Gee, I can: he probably has another season on his contract (along with his staff) and we have no money to pay for it PLUS a new, bigger one, this year, UNLESS somebody (see: a donor with big $$$, who supports men's soccer) steps up and specifically says "I've got big $$$$, I want DD gone now, let's get it done." I'll try to find out.

Same as it is for every other sport, ag, you should know this by now you're on the boards a lot buddy.

DD sticks around another year & it'll take 5+ years to rebuild just back to mediocrity after next season. Brutal

I would be troubled by what this signals if he is coming back. I would find it hard to believe that we are striving for excellence if that is the case. Yeah I know we broke. Well if that is the case, again, don't try to sell me that we are looking to upgrade expectations across the Olympic sports portfolio of programs. We probably got Litterio on the cheap given the lack of a search there. I will admit in that case his first year showed promise.

I would like to get a new AD before making the hire if that's the case.

Blaming anything on Julie right now, that is a decades-old problem for out athletic department which she is working her ass of to turn around, is absurd. I have no idea what's going on, I simply laid out a possibility, and will try to get some factual information for you guys. That being said, the fact that we're about to finish the fundraising for a $3M indoor batting/pitching facility, for softball and baseball, should tell you all you need to know about this administration's goals for all of our Olympic sports.

Maybe some of you guys should take the time to talk to Julie or Sarah, if you see them at an event.

So should we assume DD is staying? Thought we would have heard something by now if that was not the case.

IMO it would be very unfortunate if DD stayed. Having gone to a couple of games, have to say that our product hardly resembled a well coached soccer team, more like a disorganized mish mash. Players' body language was telling as well.

Three years later and he's still here

Amazing...

Totally agree. It’s really difficult to see how current players who could transfer or potential recruits would want to stay or come anywhere near here given the state of things. And that’s not a personal attack on DD at all. As this thread shows though, there is too much of a long and winding negative pathway for anyone to believe that significantly better days are ahead without a change in leadership.
