Kansas loses two offensive linemen

That Army game is never easy and it is at Army. Be careful with them since that could become a WTF game really fast.

Kansas is becoming a send FCS game at this point. I never seen a program with so much bad luck.

this is no great loss for Kansas. And lets not over look this is a new coach with a team that has nothing to lose. this could get ugly for RU if they do not approach them with fight and vinegar.

I'm much more worried about the Indiana game that a lot of people are chalking up as a win.

A middle of the pack Big Ten team has to be able to handle Army.

osu had a hard time with Navy last time they played them and the first time they played them it was a late 4th quarter save by osu, near their own goal line that prevented a loss at home

7-5 or this season will be a failure. Teams prepare and replace QBs and other players year in and year out. 7-5 or an absolute failure.

A Lion and Tiger are 2 different animals but both are dangerous.

So are a Polar Bear and a Mouse.

Let's not artificially inflate Army. Over the past 4 years Army is 12-35 while Navy is 30-21 while playing a more difficult schedule. Navy has dominated the series between the two this decade. Right now they are not close to being in the same place.

You are setting yourself up for disappointment then. 7-6 after a bowl game is possible at least.

Failure may be a bit much but it would be a disappointment.

On the other hand it's nice to see someone point out that it's not only RU that has to replace players, something that seems to get lost on many posters.

You can't argue Flood has done a very good job and then also argue a loss to Army could be in the cards. They don't go together.

He's done a pretty good job and therefore shouldn't be in realistic position to lose at Michie.

Its frequently easy. We havent lost to them since 1997 when we had no wins, and they still only won by 2. Or to put it bluntly, if we cant beat Army, then we might as well all just start focusing on who the next coach is going to be, because its going to be a losing season and Flood will get fired. Same goes for Kansas.

I disagree with Moz - teams DONT replace senior 4 year starters at QB all of the time without a hitch. Given that we were only 7-5 last year, its reasonable to expect 6-6 this year. So I say 6-6 is acceptable. Its not great, and I want more, but I dont think 6-6 is terrible, given the schedule.

You get partial credit. Barring a major scandal or winning 2 or fewer games, I can't envision a scenario where he's terminated.
But it's all a moot point since we're going 10-2.

Of course we don't want to take any team for granted. But if we need to worry about Army then we have big problems facing us this season.

Also I'm not in the camp that says that 6-6 is an absolute failure for the regular season. IMO it's not that black and white.

Agreed. The fact our coaches kept a QB in there throwing multiple picks a game, sometimes 5 and cost us games, tell us what we need to know about the back ups. Rettig better be legit because the coaches told us the last two years, there is no one else.

All I was trying to say is that other than the FCS game and Kansas there are no gimmies this season.
Army,WSU and Indiana could beat us, I am not saying they will, and to be frank I really don't think they will, but it is possible. If we lose to the season opener or to Kansas then we should start looking to buy stock in beer companies. I will also look to start a new hobby, like stamp collecting or knitting.

I'm not one to knock anyone who puts on a RU uniform but I couldn't agree more about Rettig. As I've said till I'm blue in the face I'm no expert nor do I have all that much experience playing but I can't help feeling that he really needs to step up. Unfortunately there's no indication it's happening so far.

Of course there isn't, practice hasn't even started yet... geesh.

I can. If he wins four games, hes gone. We arnet paying him that much and his recruiting will drop off the map.

Look - Scourge - anyone can beat us. Even Norfolk State, if we have a rash of injuries and they play their best game ever. But Army is Kansas level bad. If we lose its because we are bad team that isnt really even worth following, and we are likely bad enough that we get a new coach.

I hope we don't have to worry about this, but I still have a hard time envisioning a coach who has been to 3 bowls in 4 years getting canned. At other schools, sure. Here? Tough to believe because the $36 million subsidy and tuition hikes will be shoved down our throats even though football had nothing to do with either.

The objective with any new quarterback is to protect the ball. As his TD:INT ratio goes, so goes our season.

He's been with the program for a year. This'll be his 2nd Summer and had the Spring. With no Nova or any experienced QB this isn't a situation where RU can tread water while waiting. IMO (and that's all it is), he needs to step up now.

Wait two days ago you said like 4 wins and class falls apart. Now anything less than 7 is a disappointment? Can you tell us what 7 teams we should beat?

what do you want him to do? win the job before camp starts?

(Right, I am not expecting much. Hoping, cheering and praying in front of my TV, up in Mass though.)

This is how things SHOULD play out.
-Norfolk
-Mike Leech
-Franklin (PSU is still playing with a lack of talent. You took over a very good RU roster Flood and have been in the seat for 4yrs. Let's go)
-Kansas
-Indy
-Army
-Mary
-7 wins

PSU/Mich split is a must. Michigan's roster isn't great. And what I said above about Franklin's team. Its Flood 4th year. Now or never. You can't beat PSU and or Mich when THEY ARE DOWN, Flood will NEVER beat them again.

You mean to tell me you think "step up now " means today, August 6? Come on man. You know it means when camp starts in a couple days.

It's stuff like this that stifles reasonable conversation on the free board.

I dont agree. Laviano was only a freshman last year and Rettig wasn't even able to play. A fourth year starter being kept in the game says some about the backups, but not a lot. It says more about guys like rankin and bimonte than it does about laviano, thats for sure.

If you are a star chaser I'd bet Michigan's team is the second most "talented" team on our schedule.
