reason I wanted Knight is because he is younger and directly connected to some great recruits at Pitt...more of a now guy than Hobbs. Dont get me wrong, Hobbs is solid with experience but think more upside with Knight at this point..and Im not complaining. This is the type of hire RU hasnt head since well....never actually...so its actually more than a solid hire its the best since Dickie V
and yet he was good enough to recruit at UConn so dont know why Carino is bringing that up
Well, the part with Hurley was VERY Rutgers-like. But otherwise I get your point.
as some alluded earlier in the thread, one could actually say he has a better resume. Do you know what happened at GW to cause the slide? He went to 2 NCAA tourneys and then fell of the map
Super hire. Brings among other things high level recruiting experience.
I agree, but was Brandin Knight really ever in the mix? I thought he was waiting for a mid level head coaching job.
No. But this is an excellent hire
First thought ... things are going in the right direction - an open position like this last year - and RU's choices would have been like picking off of the menu at Applebee's
... now the choices are more like that are coming off the menu at Ruth's Chris - so now what ever the choice turned out to be - it was an upgrade
Second thought ... wonder the amount & nature of the input that Jim Calhoun had in this selection process ... will bet it was NOT zero

Staff is exponentially better already. Coaches who can actually coach and recruit. Dont count out Knight yet, still a chance he comes aboard.
It's great that the money is there to pay for higher level assistants. Just think about it, our pay scale is somewhat competitive with Uconn, however, Hobbs was just an assistant at Uconn, now he is an Assoc. Head Coach. I would be curious to see how our Assoc. Head Coach pay compares to Uconn's Glen Miller.
when Rutgers hires the best assistant coach its literally ever had and fans harp on the fact that there was someone they would have liked to hire better....only at Rutgers. SMH

Karl Hobbs as an assistant coach is a really nice hire for Rutgers. He'd have been a *head coach* upgrade over Eddie Jordan.
Too funny. I was looking at a Kevin Freeman article last night, and I saw a reference to Karl Hobbs. Wondering if he was related to our AD, I clicked the link. Quickly figured out they are not related (now sort of), and read his BIO. Sounded good, has alot of experience at college level. Hope it happens.
Have to disagree (in a nice way). On the surface it was, but our AD was in control this time. We also had a plan, and didn't keep asking girls until one said "yes". First chick wasn't worth the trouble. New Rutgers - finally.
Here's an article on why he was let go from GW. Regardless, I think this is a homerun hire and a true big time COLLEGE basketball hire we havent seen since..ever?
