Kill could go lots of places. Why to RU?

This is called "looking a gift horse in the mouth." We should be very pleased that someone with Kill's background wants to come here. Evidently he thinks he is not up to the rigors of being a head coach, and knows he has lots to contribute as a spread-offense expert.
But there were other jobs available....

There is no explanation. Hmm mm

believe it or not, Rutgers is a desirable place to work, particularly for someone who wants to be the mentor of a young coach without much experience on the offensive side. Kill will have a lot of authority without the pressure that comes with being a head coach. And there's one big advantage to the Rutgers job: there's nowhere but up.

its a major Big 10 job thats open so are there other OC jobs open in this league, if not why wouldnt he come here and yes his health probably scares some programs away but deal with it

Not worried about the health and am optimistic about the hire. Just trying to understand his rationale for coming.

Please explain.
I know if I'm looking at my options, one of the main factors is who I am working with. Maybe he and Ash hit it off. Maybe he thinks he'll be successful here. Also, probably not as much pressure as other B5 jobs.

Mistaken about previous working together. Thought of Northern Illinois connection with Jay Nieman. Niemans first year at NIU was the year after Kill left

Relationship, synergy, opportunity...who knows? My only concern would be his health as he has been considered a guy who does more with less for quite some time.

Please explain.

Lots of places? maybe - but in what role? how much responsibility would be entrusted to him? doubt any other B1G teams were calling him up right now... and probably not for OC.

So here he gets to rewrite the Rutgers storyline in the B1G. Here he gets to work with a team that is eager to receive his leadership - whereas many other programs may have been more inclined to try to harvest something out of him.

Nobody knows what Kill's options were but Kill and maybe Ash.
And Ash probably did a phenomenal selling job on him.

My guess is that he wanted to get back in the action, but at a less stressful spot than an HC. He got a call from Ash, and took a flyer to came out to interview, and the two of them really hit it off. Maybe he sees RU and Ash as the right fit for him. And maybe we got in the game early on.

It will be interesting to see how the young, first time coach, and the grizzled veteran develop a strong working relationship.

This. Maybe this fit the bill perfectly for both of them. Kill gets to mentor a young coach, and Ash gets the sage advice of veteran who did at Minnesota exactly what Ash wants to do at Rutgers. It speaks volumes that Chris Ash is not intimidated and willing to take on such an experienced assistant who can mentor him.

Syracuse fans already bashing the hire and hoping the guy has seizures. Classy lot up there.

Perhaps theres more to his job description such as assistant head coach or assistant athletic director with a specific task

It's very difficult to do a selling job on an experienced head coach. I'm guessing he took the job because he likes the challenge and sees potential here.

Probably really likes Ash and wants to work with him and be part of the turn around. This is an excellent hire, equivalent to The Fridge.

In addition to the reasons above, our recent merger with JJ/St. Barnabas will provide Kill on campus access to world class medical resources.

Because if he could make it here he could make it anywhere, hey wait, that's sounds like it could be a song.
