Jerry Kill Hired As OC

Okay, Kill has epilepsy. He has it under control. Can he have a siezure, of course. But he, his doctors, his family, and RU are all okay with the health issue. I know Urban Meyer didn't have epilepsy but I seem to recall he left Florida for health reasons. Returned to coaching at that low stress level place called Ohio State. How has that worked out!

Someone healthy enough to finish the season perhaps. The guy a great coach but already stepped down due to health issues. He missed games due to health issue 4 out of the last 5 seasons he coached. Can you count on him not to have a seizure in a tight ball game? On top of that he hasn't been an OC in 24 years.
I'd rather 7 games with kill than another full season of boy wonder

Now... recruiting...stay local, due to health, or can he recruit the Midwest which would give us a much better presence there? Let whatever kid you bring in, to help with the passing side of the offense, if that's the plan, be another energetic go-getter for the that side of things in New Jersey?

I really like kill and think he's a good coach. I worry about his health, who wouldn't? I really hope the guy is ok. Kill should also have a protoge on this staff who can fill in for him.

i am thinking ASH plans on bringing a younger QB Coach or another offensive assistant to pair with Kill... Very solid higher. Hopefully this gets our recruits on board.

Yeah but can he run the power spread.

I am pretty sure his Minny and N. Illinois teams ran a read-option with a run-focus, and passing off play action (is that the same as the power spread? Not sure ... but sounds very similar, with the same philosophy) ... and maybe his prior teams also.

Urban didn't really leave Florida for a health reason. Rumor has it he left for "family reasons".

I like the hire. I'm glad Ash is bringing in a veteran HC who has had success, and wish he had done it last year.

I think its a solid hire. The Fridge experiment worked out well. I have no reservations with another seasoned veteran coming back to coaching as OC. Ash can build his legacy of young coaches later.

keto is nuclear, low carbs can be just that without ketosis...ketosis is used for certain peds patients mostly
My 6 year old son suffers from seizures due to non cancerous brain tumors . Kerogenic diet is not low carb but more like a zero carb diet, it's under 5% carb, and 90 % fat. You have to make everything with butter, cream or mayo. And there is little margin for error in portion control. If you face one screw up and mistakenly eat a slice of bread, it puts you into a dangerous seizure condition.
Most states that don't pass marijuana are allowing "hemp" canaboid products under medical marijuana, which have been very successful. Since one of the leaders of this push is at NYU, I wouldn't be surprised if that played a factor in his decision. The reputation of Langone for epilepsy is one of the best in the world.I live 25 miles from CHOP, 35 from DuPont and still choose our neurologists at NYU, don't know if my son would be alive without their surgeons and neuro team

Some of the best there, and keep the faith, new treatments coming out all the time!

SIAP: It's interesting that Ash said that, last week, when asked by the media who he some of the possible candidates were, Ash said he didn't want to comment because some of those OC's were going to be coaching in bowl games. But, if I'm not mistaken, that wouldn't apply to Kill. So, was that just a red herring? Or, did Ash put out some feelers to those OC's (who are coaching in bowl games) and didn't get a positive response, and thus pulled the trigger on Kill?

Or he spoke to OC's and liked Kill best.

With Kill we get a big name and lots of experience.

Plus it is impossible for him to do worse than DM!

So I am hoping that this works out and ends up being a homerun hire.

Upstream Red Team!

Who knows. For all we know he didnt think Kill would be available, and when he found out he was, he jumped on it.

I know I'll be in the minority, but color me not happy. Very questionable and implies interest may not have been there.

Yes, his teams at Minnesota were power running teams, but they didn't appear to run it out of a spread. Looked more like a pro set RU used to have.

What I am not really happy about is his offenses appeared to be unimaginative and predictable, and most importantly, had horrible quarterback play. Didn't throw much. Nelson and Leidner were recruited and were bottom level qbs.

I hope I am wrong. Maybe this is to hold the fort. Hasn't called plays in over 20 years and was not in FBS. Absolutely need a qb coach.

I thought it was God who told him to leave coaching for a year.

Frankly, Kill did more with QB's who couldn't throw than almost any other coach in the country other than Navy and Georgia Tech.

Our most qualified football hire in a decade and I'm... underwhelmed.

He should have been the HEAD coach and retained Ben McDaniels (who I thought did a great job considering the pieces to work with).

This set up just seems awkward.

The only thing I don't get is Kill doesnt run a power spread.

"Kill worked so hard as a young coach that he found a way to win at every level, moving up the ranks from Webb City (Mo.) High. He won with Division II Saginaw Valley State and Emporia State. He won with FCS Southern Illinois. He won with FBS Northern Illinois. And, finally, he won in the Big Ten with Minnesota.

Kill won 156 games and claimed three national coaching awards, gaining the reputation of a program builder."

"In little more than a year, Kill has gone from struggling with epilepsy to helping others combat it."

And I'll say it again - Who will have to be fired so that we can bring in a QB coach?. There are only 9 coaching positions allowed and we have 9 positions filled.

Potential for a 10th coach, if approved in April.

Also, if you look at his stats from when he was at Minnesota, they didn't pass a lot. His QB's didn't even pass for 2000 yards.

That makes me wonder if Mark Rosenbaum will be returning as a offensive assistant more involved with coaching the QB with Kill overseeing everything.
Ash said he wanted to retain his whole staff and did , until Mehringer split with JK replacing him.
