“The feedback I got was incredible,” Ash said. “Not only his football knowledge, but his dealings with people. He has the ability to take care of people, lead people, develop people. That type of feedback kept coming in and coming in. It was overwhelming. And one guy was clearly standing out.”

“I wanted a guy with experience. He checks that box. I wanted a guy who is a leader, a developer of coaches and players and he checks that box. I wanted a guy with character, who we can trust, a guy who can connect with the players, a guy that had tremendous football confidence and a guy that was compatible with me. I thought that was really important to me. Coach Kill is an absolute ball coach. He doesn’t have a lot of other hobbies and interest, it is all about coaching and developing players. That is the same with me.”

Think Chris Ash wanted to go in a different direction after Drew. As I have said many times in life, "When one door closes, another one opens." Make lemonade out of lemons. . . . . .

Nice salary. When some were bringing up we're willing to pay more I could envision the 600-700K range being realistic but probably not too much more. I'm glad to see that we did take a step up in compensation. It's a good sign for the future regardless of how Kill does.
Maybe we could have attracted Dan Werner with that salary--not that's what I wanted-very happy with Jerry Kill--I think he and Ash will make a great duo.
Saw that Herman hired his DC from Houston, Todd Orlando--Orlando would receive a three-year contract averaging $1 million per year. It would be the highest assistant contract in Texas history.

I think that's probably right. It's a natural and logical instinct if thing don't work out so well. I still wonder if there might not be a co-OC assuming that rule change some have mentioned takes effect in the spring.

Wow really, obviously the trickle down from HC salaries to assistants is happening too. It's Texas but still. I think Orlando is good but 1M is still premium. Aranda just made 1.3M before he got bumped to 1.8M I think. For now it's still contained in the SEC and money bag programs but wonder when it will start trickling to the "everyday" program.

Like Brohm, I like him but 3.3M and for a program like Purdue? Whew talk about inflation.

Ash just killed it with this hire!!

Might be the 1st positive thing you've said about Ash. WOW!

Not that it's relevant, but this was the lead item on one of those updates on the sports radio station out here in Las Vegas, one in which the drive-time guy is a Rutgers graduate. I hadn't heard the news, and as soon as I heard the words "Jerry Kill, former " I spontaneously honked. Totally excited that we could get a "name" coach on our staff, and good job by Ash to welcome having a former Big Ten head man on board. Very excited.

so what Ash realized he needed is what many of us have said all along. I wonder what Ash's self assessment card reads

I've said this for a while, it's time to strip the tax exempt status of the schools

The more I've learned about Kill the better I feel about this choice. I am looking forward to a very significantly improved offense. Plus this has to be considered a positive for recruiting.
