Knight Announced

Best Rutgers coaching staff ......."since" Dhalip, Macon and Shoes.

It is another excellent hire for basketball. This was an excellent job of "recruiting" by RU. Knight had other options. RU folks convinced him this was a positive career move for him and a position that would enable him to work in a cohesive manner with other good people. The staff, as individuals, is very good. What is even better is that the staff is committed to working for the good of the program as opposed to working for their individual interests. That is a real positive and frequently is not the situation when you have a staff of very strong people. A very good few months for our program.

It's impossible to ask this question with appearing negative, but can someone postulate or speculate why he would leave Pitt for a lateral position at RU? Have we found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow?

He got passed over at Pitt, and was not in line for any of the mid major jobs that were out this year. Maybe a move back home, a bump in pay, and the chance to turn the program here around (in the tristate) will set him up for a HC job sooner.

If Jamie Dixon stayed at Pitt, Knight would have likely done the same.

At last!! Great get - nice staff put together by Coach Pikell and the AD. Nice to see big time positive vibes surrounding men's bball again!

Welcome Brandin, we need you to recruit and develop players now. Get it done.

I'm a little bit behind on the overall news here. Does this mean we have Hobbs, Young, Knight, and Vetrone? Is Vetrone signed on?

Thanks Sir Scarlet. Appreciate the comments. I view the coaching staff as the foundation upon which we can build the program.

Makes one heck of a staff Pikiell has assembled now that Brandin Knight is a part of it.
What was a good start in improving the RU MBB program became even better and might just be in the great start category with Knight's hire.

We're finally beginning to act like a P5 program. This staff is beyond anything I imagined when we hired coach Pike. Great job by coach and the RU administration.

When you are dealing with a bureaucracy--and RU with its what, 35,000 students and hordes of profs, admins, worker bees of all kinds--and especially its myriad bureaucratic drones of all shapes and sizes and quasi-functions--is, in fact, a serious and sprawling bureaucracy--stuff take longer than it should. Given how long it was before Hobbs was officially announced, thought May Day would have come and gone before the entire staff was announced. If, indeed, it is complete. We have several future HC's aboard, all hoping their work at RU will get them a shot or another shot.

It is really starting to feel like a big ten program in both FB and MBB. Really good staffs in place. Now we have to get the players. Good things are happening

It is quite obvious that Pikiell is more respected in the coaching community than most of us posting gave him credit. great stuff.

Here's good news.

"Brandin and I have a very good relationship," Sports U coach Brian Coleman said to SNY.tv. "I know he will look out for the kids and take good care of them. I think it will help Rutgers get involved with our kids."

So, if my memory is working, seems that Knight stiffed RU and went to Pitt. I remember all the fans were required to BOO LOUDLY, whenever he touched the ball, a tradition joyfully upheld throughout his career.

Is all forgiven, or am I obligated to BOO when he is introduced?

I sure hope that those that were in a panic that this was not moving as fast as they wished can now stop being such Debbie Downers. A few guys were relentless on why this wasn't announced yet. Many were constantly negative. We need positive fans.

25 years will do that to some.

New coach, staff and AD. If you aren't optimistic now, not sure why you follow the team.

Congrats to Coach Pike and AD Hobbs on this all-star staff.

Best staff since Wenzel, Van Gundy, Jordan. IMHO, Van Gundy was the genious behind the turn around.

Knight and Hobbs hires demonstrate that things have changed at RU. We have finally made the commitment to win.

Best part is we get to witness the biggest rags to riches turnaround in P5 history. Bigger than '88-'89.

From E$PN Men's Hoops page (no link. would never have dreamed of reading this prior to AD Hobbs.).

The best part of getting these excellent hires is that they must believe this ship can be turned around and be successful or they wouldn't be here. They also must have enormous confidence in Coach Pikiell....

Um, no. He chose Pitt over FDU. We never offered. Knight had an unremarkable freshman season and then exploded to a higher level of play. Many lamented that it was an unpardonable sin to pass on him after so many did the same with his older brother Brevin, who established that template when Stanford plucked him from NJ after he too didn't get much interest from local high majors.

Man...I just got REALLY giddy about RU BBall. It's been a LONG time since I was this excited about October!!!

Rutgers is finally showing evidence that they are going to commit to trying to win at college basketball. This is the best staff this school has every assembled for basketball and they had to work hard to get it. This staff does not guarantee success but it finally puts us back in the running and in the game for a change. Welcome aboard Brandin.
