As of Wednesday more than 14,000 tickets had been sold, with the vast majority gobbled up by the Scarlet Knights' faithful. Attendance is likely to be north of 16,000 – one of the largest gatherings of Rutgers hoops fans ever.

March 1967: In the NIT semifinals, a sold-out Madison Square Garden doubleheader crowd of 18,499 watched Rutgers fall to Southern Illinois (led by Walt Frazier) and Marquette beat Marshall. Although most of the fans probably were there for Rutgers, it’s impossible to know how many.

Harper did not practice Wednesday after suffering a sprained ankle during Monday’s loss at Penn State. He’s expected to play Saturday barring a setback, although he’ll likely be limited in practice all week.

“Dylan muscled his way through the game, but he obviously wasn’t himself,” Pikiell said.

Center Manny Ogbole, who hurt his knee at Penn State, also did not practice Wednesday and is being evaluated day-to-day.

“It’s going to be Fourth of July and Christmas for them,” Spartans coach Tom Izzo told reporters Wednesday, “but it’s going to be kind of exciting for us.”

Dylan not practicing all week and still injured is deeply concerning
and you know when he had the flu he was not practicing either so really in the past 3 weeks how much practice time, just maybe a week in there he was full strength,,,his conditioning definitely a question mark at this point with all the setbacks

Like it said in the article, the first choice was Syracuse OOC. Just like we tried to play Arkansas at the Pru. Gotta open up that rolodex a bit more before hitting a conference name though.
Exactly. Nobody else gives away conference home games. Well PSU does but they go to smaller arenas. Cant believe Nova wouldn’t do a home and home at Wells Fargo and MSG.

oh and I call bullshit that Pike wants to play conference home games at MSG

looks like Fanatics forced it
Who cares, RU needs the spotlight, not playing on BTN or FS1.....FOX and CBS are recruiting wins for a program and fans still thinking small time with complaints about MSG.....this will legitimately be the 1st time someone in the tristate area has ever seen RU play on TV.....it will 100% be the 1st time for the entire nation since the 1980s???

OMG, no one cares about Nova anymore....maybe at Wells Fargo but the Pavilion?? The Pavilion is for small time opponents....

You don't give up B1G home games from The RAC to play somewhere else

Rutgers needs to find an OOC opponent to play at MSG

The spotlight is the NCAA tournament.....very few care about a random game on CBS on a Saturday at 1pm

I don't think playing at MSG in late November or December on a Wednesday night is the same as late January on a National Broadcast on CBS.

We are having football and hoops recruiting visits centered around NYC and you want to play on a weeknight in December?? Please stop...

How do I know I'm correct?? Why is Illinois playing UConn at MSG in late February?? That game could be scheduled anytime during the season.....you schedule games for TV exposure and when people will watch the games, which is a weekend in the winter on National TV. How fans can't digest common sense and marketing is bizarre.

RU is in the B1G because of location to NYC and Philly.....because those TV markets pay the bills.

Rutgers needs the spotlight...lmfao...its about winning games

they literally have the spotlight with Ace/Dylan and pissed all of that away...thats the spotlight they are under...how can this team be so bad with these 2 players

um and Rutgers has played on Fox main channel before so no its not the first time someone in the area will have seen RU play on live tv

this....it shows how small time thinking is pervasive around here...big ****ing deal, a game on national tv....check out Izzos comments its like Christmas Day for us, thats our highlight for our program playing at msg...aw isnt Rutgers cute

also anyone under the age of 30 is used to watching any event on any channel streaming...do you realize how many games are on peacock...being on cbs is no different than being on fs1 or espn or espn 2 or btn
we already played seton hall on Fox 5

Greene and Bac are right and Hawk is wrong.
While national coverage is kinda nice, it’s not the 70s or 80s anymore, it’s a random Saturday afternoon game in January. The publicity is overblown. I get it. Play a game in the Garden but not a league game.

The goal is the league, making the league tournament and the NCAAs. We R making it harder for our selves.

Pissing it away seems harsh. Mistakes have been made, but you can't discount the bad luck that played a big role in this. In my opinion, Acuff's setback and Dylan's health have contributed more than a failure to recruit the right pieces or coaching/preparation. Plus we all knew the failure to retain Cliff or find a suitable rim protector meant this team was going to have a ceiling.

This comment shows that you and many others on here, literally don't watch CBB on a consistent basis. Which is fine, not a knock, but literally no idea how business and marketing works.

And I don't care one bit if Pike doesn't like having to play at MSG, if he doesn't like how it got done or whatever.....his job is to recruit and wins games. If he doesn't like that aspect and wants to be Chris Collins and Northwestern playing all his game at a Walsh Arena forever, then RU and it's programs will always be bottom tier.

There's a lot of small time comments and crying about MSG.....if it was UBS on Long Island or Mohegan Sun, sure, go for it with the complaints. There is NO downside to for RU to play on National TV, ever.....as is ZERO downside.

Now if RU had Ace, Dylan and DS0 that might be a different story

Jerry forgot about

March 1976 ECAC championship game with St. John’s

February 1978 game in the garden with UNC (Saturday afternoon doubleheader ) …nearly sold out

December 1978 ECAC holiday festival at the garden that we won beating St. John’s and Ohio state ..both gsmes sold out and duke lost twice 😃

The December 1981 game with UNC was also a big crowd. We were 5-1 and played against sone frosh names Jordan …his first game in the garden

But those did have split crowds

I will admit my non RU CBB watching has fallen off the cliff. I also know my 2 kids aren't going to be able to watch the game because it is on CBS.

The downside is not being in the NCAA tournament. That is the crown jewel off all of this....everything else is peanuts.

The transfer we want playing in a mid major or the HS junior doesn't really know what 20 years ago being on Channel 2 or playing at MSG means. MSG and network TV may mean something to you and me.

Patrick Ewing and John Starks are real old. Billy Packer is not a thing.

I will repeat, small time thinking gets you small time results. You can do both (play MSG and make the NCAAs) and publicity extends beyond the tri state area folks. It's not a regional broadcast.

it's the whining that gets RU nowhere and why we can't advance beyond reality. I've never seen a bigger bunch of crybaby fans that literally spend all day complaining about improvements and upgrades. People are conditioned and used to losing and the minute something different appears, it's a problem, LMAO

You sound like a broken record. You act like this is some sort of disaster. Playing a big time opponent in the worlds most famous arena. It’s also not like the last time they did this it wasnt great environment and great win except for Mag getting hurt of course

Why are you discussing this as they are separate items?? What does playing one game at MSG have to do with the NCAA tournament?

Losing home court advantage is a significant disadvantage and a huge downside. As RU has seen, just one more league loss, OSU, a few years ago for all intents and purposes, knocked us out of the Big Dance.
