Lewis now up to #7 in the 165 weight class and has only lost to Marinelli and Joseph, two guys who likely will be NC contenders. With the dual vs Wisconsin on Friday night, how do you think Lewis matches up vs Wick? It'll be the match of the night for sure, and Lewis can find himself in the 4 seed in B1G tourney with a win over Wick.

I would think Lewis is a #5 B10 seed right now and Wick is #6 seed
(Based on common opponents - White).
A win would cement that.
There is no easy opponent in quarters.
I would think Massa is preferable to the top 3

Isiah Martinez
Alex Marinelli
Vince Jospeh
Logan Massa

I put Martinez #1 based on previous B10 seeding.
Both him and Marinelli are undereated.
Marinelli has better wins this year.

I realize that rankings don’t necessarily drive seeding, but Flo has Richie at #5 and Massa at #9.

Lewis is good! I give him a lot of credit for doing this well with a move up in weight. I doubted his move up, but he's up there with the best, and I can actually see him winning the national championship with hard work and little luck.

I still don't understand why he did not wrestle IMar at the dual.
Did he weigh in? Was he sick? coaches decision??

The bracket will be hugely important for Richie as far as NCAA expectations. Best case scenario is if he gets himself into a situation where he has a favorable qtrs matchup (probably as a 5 or 6 seed), and gets the upset to go to the semis. I would think McFadden, or possibly Joseph again. If he is a 7 or an 8, and runs into IMAR or Marinelli in the qtrs, thats going to be a bigger roadblock.

He's gonna beat Wick. I feel Lewis has a better shot against Joseph then he does Marinelli in the rematch

Wish we could've found out how Lewis matches up with Massa from Michigan before the tourney.
Will be close, tight match for sure.. I watched massa vs I. White.. match was really close into OT. I think RL vs Massa would be almost a coin flip rn so would not surprise me at all if RL wins.. all these top 65 guys are really close.

Lewis beats Wick and he is the 4 seed in BIG. Wick has beaten both Massa and Wanzek. If IMAR gets the 1 seed (I hope it is Marinelli) then Marinelli is 2, Vincenzo 3. Wick gets the 5, Wanzek the 6, Massa the 7 and probably Isaiah White the 8. Teshan is 9 and Morrissey is 10. That is pretty stout. If the bracket is set like a 16 man bracket then 1 and 2 get byes first round Teshan and White hit first round with the winner getting IMAR. Lewis gets Wick in the quarterfinals, Marinelli gets Massa and Vincenzo gets Wanzek. Marinelli vs Massa could be interesting if Massa is healthy. Crazy weight. Richie hits IMAR in the semis. Would love to see Marinelli at #1 and see White upset him in the quarters. But, that is wishful thinking. If Richie loses he could slip to 7 but more likely 5 or 6. At 6 or 7 he avoids IMAR but hits Marinelli or Vincenzo in the quarters. No easy road here.

This bracket is nails... yikes and I thought 141 Woulda been toughest weight clas

If Lewis could have made 157, his AA chances seem much better. 157 doesn't seem to have near the quality depth for their top 8:

(Intermat Feb 13)
Jason Nolf Penn State Junior Big Ten 1
2 Michael Kemerer Iowa Sophomore Big Ten 2
3 Hayden Hidlay North Carolina State Freshman ACC 3
4 Joey Lavallee Missouri Senior MAC 4
5 Josh Shields Arizona State Sophomore Pac-12 6
6 Alec Pantaleo Michigan Junior Big Ten 7
7 Micah Jordan Ohio State Junior Big Ten 5
8 Clayton Ream
No denying 65 is the stronger weight class but RL Ain't dodging anyone.. I think he will AA at either weight.. now it's just a matter of which path to NCAA title is easier.. I'm confident RL can beat anyone in 65 weight class(yes he can beat bull/Joseph in rematch) idk bout imar tho..

I agree that I think he has a shot against anyone, IMAR being the toughest opponent. I think IMAR was just too cocky in the NCAA finals against Joseph. I doubt anyone beats IMAR this year.

Hope Richie makes the flight. This will be a tough match to win especially if Suriano and Gravina don’t wrestle. 149 and 157 are tissues as is 165. They are favored at 197 and we should be favored at 133 and 285. If The two Nicks don’t wrestle they should win those two. ????

Yikes, you're saying there's a chance of a skeleton line-up again?

Is Richie injured? Why wouldn't he make the flight?

OK Bill, I have to ask, is this going to be another Illinois match where half the starters aren't wrestling. A large group of us are thinking of going to the Princeton match and if they're not wrestling this match I doubt they'll make a miraculous recovery in two days. Nothing against our backups but we aren't going to see Princeton hand us our asses.

By ensuring that they're 100 percent in B1Gs/NCAAs.

Ok, that I will agree on. Maybe just semantics, but IMHO, if a wrestler is hurt or sick this time of year, I don't consider it ducking. Agree get them as healthy as possible for March. 90% of the wrestlers are dinged up this time of year, D-1 is brutal on their bodies.

Goodale is ducking wrestlers. I don't care what he says in the media. I'm all for it if we end up Top 10 in NCAAs.

I do not think Goodale is ducking anyone. I do think the staff is being more cautious this year with injuries/illness as we approach the BIG and NCAA’s. There is no excuse for a wrestler not wrestling if healthy and in good standing academically. It is a terrible idea to hold out wrestlers for duals and will destroy fan support at duals/hurt donations. I follow the team and wrestlers throughout the season, not just in the post season. I truly believe our coaching staff has the best interests of the athletes and the program in mind when making decisions (in concert with the athletes themselves) about who wrestles and who doesn’t. With that said, losing winnable matches like Illinois and Minnesota due to holes in the lineup sucks. Let’s hope, by training smartly/making the right lifestyle choices and with a little good fortune the athletes are able to stay healthy throughout the year.

I'll admit hearing things like Lewis and Suriano possibly not wrestling this week kind of pissed me off, especially since we are what, 3 weeks now since Suriano was sick? We all but gave Illinois the match and same for Minnesota, where we would've won both with our full lineup, now we are talking about doing the same to Wisconsin and Princeton? At this point we better finish Top 5 in B1Gs and Top 10 in NCAAs, because I know I'm not the only RU wrestling fan starting to question if we are taking the duals seriously.

Go easy folks. I was just busting balls about RL making the flight with his history for the unknown. NS did not make the trip and he was sicker than anything said. Everyone else made the trip and are scheduled to wrestle. Goodale would wrestle everyone if he could and is NOT ducking anyone. Hopefully we have enough without NS to get a W against the Wisky boys. Missing NS is a big point swing though.

This a big match for Richie re. BIG seeding. It’s the difference between the 4 seed or possibly 6th or 7th and a much more difficult quarterfinal match. Wick has heavy hands/uses hard collar ties and this could get pretty chippy. Wick is a good scrambler so Richie needs to keep his cool and finish his attacks quickly. Richie is better on his feet. Should be entertaining. IMAR manhandled Wick on his feet.

Well, at least it's a point in the season where Suriano's minor injuries/dings sustained can heal while overcoming this illness without missing major tournaments or duals. Hope he recovers soon.

I do not want to go into specifics about Nicky’s illness but he was a very sick young man.

Thanks Bill.

Guys, its also important to note what recovery during wrestling season looks like.... your best friend when you have the flu is fluids. Limiting fluid intake during flu recovery to make weight is going to make the immune system fight harder and will take a huge toll. Let him focus on getting to 100%... he'll probably walk around near 135lbs and then he gets a few weeks to gradually cut the weight down. Its a smart move to hold him out and let the immune system do what it does so Nick can do what he does.

Wish we had Mackall still though. No disresepect intended to Elckhoff (sp?)
