Match Thread- RU v Nebraska

Hopefully we have a high hit rate on these next two classes if not we better damn well start hitting the transfer wire hard. Even next year, plug some holes with transfers because there are going to be quite a few.

O and Oliveri is wrestling his ass off.
Frankly, next year is scary to think about. A lot of unknowns.

I was going to mention that. We really seem to need some starting caliber transfers. the job market here should help with transfers like in football.

Correnti winning 1st and gets thrown (again)...the bear hug killing him

down 8-3 after 1

Why did Correnti relax there? He had it then let Schultz recover. Keep driving, break his friggin arm off.

Glasgow is starting to show something. If he, Janzer and Aguilar are good - like top 12 good, we will be fine. If they turn into more of the same, next year is going to be brutal.
It must’ve been pretty bad if no one is posting the final scores at 197 and heavy weight.

Something different seems to be in order imo...do we have nobody but Metzler at 125 ...is the backup that bad that it’s not worth giving him a shot like they did PL at 141....Which doesn’t seem that is working at all ..I still look at MVB and his body of work and I still don’t get that switch ...we get nothing out of 141 ..look at the ranked kids MVB beat last year including two huge win over PL himself ..is he technically not the better wrestler ...was it smart to waste a RS on the kid who went 184 today ..why not pull the Janzer red shirt instead ..at least he might have had a shot ..if Nick and Willie are done then put the best guy we have at 184 there ...maybe the coaches know something we don’t but some decisions they are making just don’t make sense ..the recruiting decisions I’m not getting into ..they didn’t know Mulligan was gonna quit like he did ..other misses the same thing ..when a kid is a stud in HS ya kinda assume he will get better ...hindsight is 20\20 ...wish we could all call them right ...but my beef is with who they see in the room every day and it doesn’t appear to me they are getting it right ..just my opinion

Not pulling Nico and Janzer’s redshirt IS the smart play. At this point burning a RS from one of our potential 4 year starters is not a wise move. Who we put in today does not have the pedigree the other two have so you work with what you have. i want a win but not at that expense and it wouldn’t have mattered

I appreciate thar a champ would have big recruiting implications. Why isnt pagano wrestling is he hurt also. Recruiting needs to get better on paper. The development is also a huge concern. Correnti and Pagano have both been ncaa qualifiers. Firestone as well. If so this is really a high number of injuries. I understand people like goodale and understandably so. However it doesnt help the program to not consider that things arent always being done best. Mulligan is one thing. However I would say evaluating personality is hugely important in a sport like this. You have to consider the work ethic and mental side. I cosnider evaluating that just as important and just as big a failure if the recruit doesnt have it.

We have a good number of obstacles in recruiting. We also have a tone to offer. It is one thing to not get a top 25 pound ranked recruit is another when the lower ranked recruits are not wrestling to there lesser ranking. We have a fair amount and it is a problem. We should be trying to get to the 10 range as a program. We seem to be going in the other direction.

Yes the 125 backups are not that good.Denora was pinned in place of Metzlar in spot starts so you stick with Metzlar all the way.We were not winning this dual so you might see Grello & Scott on Sunday which is a winnable dual.

Are the upper weights like in Football with OL and Basketball with big men where it takes time to develop?

Firestone was never an NCAA qualifier....

Big rash of injuries with Pagano probably out for the season.Development is definitely an issue. So either we figure out a way to get some high resident athletes and more technical coaches to provide specific directions than just telling kids just "to wrestle" is not enough. We have had one or two kids leave who are quite frankly doing better than they were at Rutgers.

I just got home. I think it might be fair to say that Sunday will be a lot different.
Gravina was all smiles before the match and in the stands, hopefully he got good news this week and maybe we see him Sunday. Same with Grello.
Nebraska is just a damn good dual team.
Glasgow and JVB did pretty well against highly ranked guys. Correnti in a slump again, but his guy is a top 12 guy too.

It's all about 3 days in March. But this team will more ready to go in 2 days .
Don't get too down over this match.

I was saying another wrestler who looked like he would contribute. I wasnt saying ncaa qaulifier. I dont know if is out as well. He seems like someone who could help 125 or 141

Does not seem Goody was happy with Glasgow finishing the match at the post match interview.Said he was not sure if Glasgow was happy keeping the match close.I also think Suriano should have teched his kid pulling the trigger more often. It should have not been that close at all.

The MVB ship at 141 has sailed. Too much of a cut.

Definitely seems like some behind the scenes things are going on between these two. Goody came off like he's just fed up with kid. Who knows, maybe it was just an emotional reaction after a rough loss or coach thinks he needs to light a fire under his you know what. White has been on a pretty good tare this season, so it's not as easy as just saying "go out and win the match".

Is that your opinion or do you have inside info....he looked like he was ready to go if called on ..stopped the diet he was on but thought he was still able to make the weight

Just following the logic of it. Bill confirmed he is no longer on the restrictive diet, which is the only way he was able to make the cut. So if he is no longer on the diet he can't make the weight.

When was the last time he weighed in at 141? I honestly don't know.

Harleyr1, you and I seem to agree on alot of things, but your take on 184 is nuts. Pull a redshirt on John Ciaramella?? Really? You think he is ever going to start here? Big difference between putting him on the mat vs. Janzer. SMH

i guess WNG would be the one to ask that....I never heard he couldn’t make the weight after getting off that diet ..all I heard was it zapped his strength which was one of his assets ...once he was ready I thought he would wrestle off since our results at 141 have been a non factor ...hey if he can’t then your right but if he can I just feel he is the better wrestler

Bill would certainly know more than I. This was a diet he started back in the summer knowing he had to make 141, so I just don't know why he would do that if in fact he could make the weight on a more flexible caloric intake. Maybe I'm taking too many leaps of logic here, but to me it seems like Lipari is the guy at 141 by default at this point.

I haven’t heard from anyone that he can’t make the weight without being on that diet ...so you believe even if he does he doesn’t deserve a shot at getting his spot back?

Why go on that diet if he doesn't have to is the question I ask myself. Plus the fact he hasnt competed since Midlands is pretty strong circumstantial evidence.

Not sure how you concluded the bold from what I've said.
