Matt Rhule Fired at Carolina

After being a head coach in the NFL, and at 2 college programs that he raised from the dead, why would he want to be the OC in a program with 1 healthy scholarship QB with an interception problem? I think he will have better offers.
He may indeed have better offers but I assume the current situation of 1 healthy QB will not be the situation next season when the next OC takes over

Excellent offensive coordinator....wonder if he would be considered.

Timing is everything, would have loved to see him take over for Schiano in a couple of years, but somebody will grab him now, oh well.

Nebraska, Wisconsin, maybe Auburn probably have already made inquiries, there will likely be a bidding war.

Worse winning % in the NFL than Schiano.

If Franklin ever left PSU he would be a top candidate to replace him.

Why would anyone want to deal with being a college head coach with recruiting/NIL/ transfer portal when you're bout to get a $40M check. That's insane haha

Because it’s in their blood. Why did Mack Brown come back to UNC at near 70. Why would a former NFL and P5 coach go to UConn…because they don’t know anything else and it’s so ingrained and they can’t find something else to replace it. If you’ve scored your big contract, the jobs after are less for the money imo and more just wanting to do it.

Panthers are going to pay Rhule more than $40 Million remaining on his contract to do nothing, but sure anything is possible.
EXACTLY.. maybe he takes a lesser-paying OC job for a few years before taking what would assuredly be a decent head coaching opportunity. Maybe, being a Penn State guy, this area wouldn't be all that awful to him. Cannot hurt to ask.

I’m gonna go a little against the tide of this firing and say he’s a good coach who has done a great job in college. The talk right now is as if he’s the next Saban.

IMO he’s the next Chip Kelly. I thought Kelly was a slam dunk and only this year has he finally started to live up to the original billing but we still have to see how the rest of the year plays out and ensuing years as well. Until last year and this year, more talk about how the game has changed and caught up to his schemes etc…than wow what a great job.

Good coach yes, championship level coach I don’t know. We’ll have to see which job he ends up at eventually too if and when he comes back.

I looked at his wiki after you said this thinking he was a defensive guy. Interesting that he was a defensive coach for most of his career, then goes to temple, is a d line coach there and then flips to quarterbacks and ultimately OC. You don't see that often

Unlike Greg who had to run back to Rutgers because no else desired him. Matt Rhule will be very attractive and sought after

An Athletic article talked about him for the usual jobs like Wisconsin and Nebraska but also GT. It was with the idea that it was sort of the same profile as Temple/Baylor...overlooked schools in a good recruiting area without the pressure to win right away.

Also brought up a good point that Kansas fans should be happy with Rhule's firing. Leonhard still has a good shot at the Wisconsin job and Nebraska may go all out for Rhule so Leipold could end up staying.

Too funny
Was watching this game and thought about posting "How long before Rhule gets made available to the marketplace?"
😂😂😂

He'll take a year off or end up at Bama as one of those special advisors for a year.

Coaches go to the Saban Halfway House when they need a little rehab to get a HC spot again. Rhule doesn't need any help or rehab to get a spot. He'll be sought after if he wants to coach in college. It's just a matter of whether he wants to or not.

Side note: sounds like there is an offset for any college job he gets.

On the Forde/Wetzel/Dellenger podcast, Dellenger thought he'd want to go to one of the jobs that has a chance at a national title so could wait unless he likes Auburn. Then he said he talked to some Baylor people that know him who find it hard to believe he'd sit out a year. With that he thought ASU/Auburn were more likely landing spots if he doesn't wait as opposed to Nebraska or Wisconsin. Forde thought if Venables can't get it straightened out some time next year that could open and maybe Rhule waits for that but a lot of ifs to wait on in that scenario
