Men’s Lacrosse Prepares for Season Ahead of Trip to Florida for Exhibitions

@Caliknight can we assume that the starters will play against Jacksonville, while the backups and youngsters will play against D2 Tampa?

Looking forward to hearing a full report after Saturday’s games (as much as you’re able to share).

I'd love to sit in the stands and watch the matchup with Tampa. Not saying RU wouldn't control the game but I could see it being more competitive than we would like. That said, scrimmages are the wild west.

Fall scrimmages are where you see things like that happen. The season is very rapidly approaching. This is when you want to start to really dial in lines and get cohesion for the guys who will be on the field the most. That said we have also had the injury bug something awful recently. Started 3 years ago when our best middie went down at the end of the last preseason game. He was playjng like a first team AA too. Sad that. Last year was just ridiculous. I would imagine there are a few guys that they want to make sure are ready for the season while balancing out on field play.

We are scrimmaging much more than we have in the past. As the team gets older the next few seasons that will be lowered significantly. I think with such a young team Brian wants to get them as much experience as possible. That includes how we travel, train on the road, etc. These are always good team bonding experiences so I am sure that's the ultimate goal. The more time these young guys spend together the more rapid the development will be.

Any update from Tampa?

@Caliknight
We took both scrimmages today. It looks like from the score sheet the younger guys played the first game against Tampa and the older guys played against Jacksonville.

The scores were 16-9 against Tamp and 15-9 against Jacksonville. A couple of freshmen are popping. Vorang had quite a day as did Aiello. I think the plan was to reshirt him but it’s pretty obvious he’s playing himself into real playing time.

Vorang was one I’ve been watching. He put up video game numbers for Niskayuna which is a perennial NYS champion. He has a very unique skillset. Interested to see how that translates.

We were up 11-1 against Jacksonville before it looked like we started getting younger guys more run. That’s a surprising score in late Jan.

The team is very young though. There will be growing pains along the way but you can see the potential already.
