Men’s Lacrosse Welcomes St. Joe’s Saturday

Our shooting even when hands free from 7 yards is just not good. Tough when you beat pressure then can’t finish it.

They are just making way more plays at every level. It’s that simple.

We just aren’t playing Rutgers lacrosse.

5 on 4 and we barely generate a look

There is no excuse to play this bad at home our prep level is bad and shooting is terrible, do we practice with 8x8 cages? I am off the Brecht bandwagon we are so ****ing sloppy I am going to puke

It’s shocking we can’t clear the ball. As soon as there the hint of a turnover or shot Verch jumps to the middle of the field and we don’t look to skip pass over it.

This game will have the turnovers I can ever remember.

This is tough to watch. We are a long way from 2-2 after 1st qtr
Hate to say it but they are just better. Their attack is more dynamic and they are more athletic and longer in the midfield. And they have some slick sticks. I can see why they went to Durham and played Duke so close.

This might be the longest team I’ve seen.

As soon as we get behind we revert to hero ball. We have no inside game whatsoever. They are doubling early and we have zero ability to make them pay. Any moderately decent offense at this level should be burying point blank looks at will in that situation.

It’s definitely not a good sign that the two best teams we’ve played so far have blown us away.

When we get looks in front we still don’t bury them or we blow the pass.

Watching Maryland, we might not score a goal against them.

That about sums it up. Open net we hit the outside of the net

The turnovers were inexplicable shooting woes continue. A lot goes into that last part. Some of it is on the players and some of it is we just don't run an offensive system that creates consistently good looks.

We are really young on offense but it's hard to tell what's system related and what isn't. Today was lost in the middle of the field though. When you can't clear the ball nothing else really matters. You can't win games coughing up the ball like that.

Their 10 man was super effective. Looks like it wore out our D with all the energy expended trying to clear the ball. Not to mention all the extra possessions they had with our turnovers.

They were also double poling on faceoffs and owning us, why did we not counter?
Faceoffs didn’t seem horrible but I’ll behave to see the stats.

Clearing. The issues all started there. Some of those turnovers led to great looks. Cardin stood on his head.

You have to either run through the ten man or pass through it. Or shoot on the cage which is my personal favorite. We could do neither of the first two today.

I’ll give them some credit though. That team is hyper aggressive and takes big risk. They have athletes in the middle of the field and are very very long on the backend. It causes real problems.

We didn’t handle it well and when we did we didn’t make them pay. That only emboldened them even more. R teams of the past would have most certainly made them pay.

Again, our shooting is just not good and the system we run is stagnant. It makes it tough to score. We don’t have those elite talents like we’ve had in the past to cover that up.

Watching Maryland play is like watching a coordinated dance troupe. They initiate with elite players but off ball behind it they are in constant coordinated motion. They get chances and bury them. It makes defending an offense very hard.

They owned us in faceoffs in the first half when we badly needed some momentum. 13 would scoop a ball for us and a long pole would immediately strip the ball. This is the kind of high IQ lacrosse we don’t play. They knew 13 was the man and they shut him down, we had no answer.

That’s not IQ. Thats players making plays. Faceoffs aren’t great but they weren’t the issue. Clearing the ball was. And offense secondarily.

Stats are very sobering. We got destroyed in the second quarter on faceoffs but we played them even outside of that.

Our attack is just not getting it done. Some of that is the turnovers but we have problems there. I thought the took a nice step last week but today was atrocious. Our goalie had as many goals as our entire attack unit. Kulas who is only out there to shoot went 0-7. Aiello 0-6 and Murphy 0-2. Again, some of that is the system we run which has us shooting low percentage shots from distance and some of that is the players simply not converting opportunities.

I'd like to see Austin-Johnstone get more run. He has some ability to get by his guy and if we are going to play this hero ball type offense that's a must. I'd also like to see Sommer at attack and Vorang get more run to see what he can do.

IQ is scouting, knowing what we are good at and countering which is exactly what they did.

They didn't counter anything. We will take our best short stick wings against poles in groundball scrums all day. Every team would. That's the scenario you want. Comes down to players making plays. That's all those situations are.

yikes i can't even say anything it's like kicking a dog when it's already dead. need elon and doge to put this program out of its misery

From Final 4 to irrelevant … not expecting that, but is it wrong to hope for 2-3 or 3-2 in conference with a win over UMD once every ten years?

Rutgers lacrosse is like the Las Vegas Raiders. All great talk about how great this year will be before the season and then the season starts and reality checks in.

2 NCAA appearances in now his 14th year and very much the trending down. What other Big Ten or ACC program would tolerate that?
People can rip (insert whatever head coach here) but we are so so so far behind in the arms race, it’s not even funny. It’s no surprise Michigan took the jump they did in lacrosse once they got serious with funding. It ain’t happening at RU. One of the issues with lacrosse is we play in a conference with UMD, Umich, OSU, Hopkins, and Umich. Those are all schools that are way superior than us when it comes to support and will out raise/out spend us when it comes to NIL.

None of that has anything to do with losing to Stony Brook and getting run off the field against St. Joe’s. I guess there was no need to build the beautiful Rodkin Center then?. Should have used that money to buy some players.

The Rodkin is great but we need our own stadium. Every conference member has a Rodkin.

SB no excuse. St Joes isn’t them. That team was impressive.

Except that’s not what your post that I responded to was talking about
