Rutgers opens up the season out in Minnesota this morning with 2 rounds today and the final round tomorrow. It's the 1st time in 3 years they do so without Chris Gotterup at the #1 position. Junior Luke Wells takes that spot. With 3 other returning starters from last year back and Frosh Weston Jones, Rutgers has 3 players who made it to this summer's US Amateur with Xavier Marcoux advancing all the way to the Final 32.

The field is chock full of teams that in Golfstats Final Spring Rankings fell between 31st (Notre Dame) and 75th. Rutgers was #95 it's a good early test.

After 2 rounds, Rutgers stands T11th out of 14 (+14). Kansas (-11) is in 1st followed by Mich St and Notre Dame.

The 3rd and final round is tomorrow. Luke Wells has shown why he's the new #1, shooting 68-70 to stand T3, 1 stroke behind co-leaders Bradley Smithson (Mich St) and Luke Kluver (Kansas).

2021 US Amateur Champion, James Piot (MSU) stands T27 at +1.

T3 Luke Wells (-4)
T40 Xavier Marcoux (+4)
T47 Weston Jones (+7)
T64 Brandon Hansen (+10)
T68 Rhett Sellers (+_12)

14th in a 14 team event. Not good. May be my imagination but it sure seems both golf teams save their worst for last.
