Men's Golf Surges in Final Round of Colleton River Collegiate

54 hole event starts tomorrow with 36 holes at Colleton River Club's Jack Nicklaus Course in Bluffton, SC hosted by Michigan State.

Rutgers #1 player, Xavier Marcoux, is back in the lineup after missing his 1st tourney in his 4 years at RU this past week.

The 12 team field is headed by Golfstat's #21 Kansas State, #24 Ga Southern, and #25 Cincinnatti. Cincy and RU faced each other last week at Dorado Beach with Cincy winning while RU finished 7th, 29 strokes behind. Along with #95 RU and #51 MSU, other B1G teams participating include #28 Ohio State, #64 Indiana, #77 Minnesota, and #96 Penn St. Both Kansas State and Cincy have won 3 tourneys so far in the '22-'23 season.

With the 1st Round complete, Rutgers is tied for 5th. Rhett Sellers led RU with a 7 Under 65, followed by Noah Kumar with a 3 Under 69, Xavier Marcoux's 1 Under 71, and Weston Jones Even Par 72. Luke Wells shot a 74 while James Newton, playing as an individual, shot 70. Golfstat team scoring seemed off earlier and didn't match the players totals but I think it's correct now.

The 2nd Round did not go as well for RU, shooting a team -5 and a 2 Round score of -16 which dropped them 5 places to 10th out of 12. Rutgers was led by Luke Wells and Weston Jones who shot -2, 70's. Noah Kumer shot 71 with Xavier Marcoux a 72 and Rhett Sellers along with Individual entrant James Newton shot 73s. Sellers is the highest placed RU player at T12 with a two round score of -6.

RU is 4 strokes out of 6th and 12th. A good round tomorrow could move the team up several spots while another score like this afternoon could......

Led by Weston Jones' birdie on the 54th and final hole, Rutgers jumped from 10th to 4th in today's final round. The team -9 today was 2 strokes better than any of the other 11 teams.

Jones led RU with a 4 Under 68. He was followed by Rhett Sellers' 69, Noah Kumar's 70, and Xavier Marcoux's Even Par 72. Luke Wells shot an 81 and James Newton a 72 but neither round counted in the team score.

Individually Sellers finished T6, 2 strokes behind the winner, Jones and Kumar came in at T20, Marcoux and Newton T45, and Wells 69th.

This is a very nice finish for a team that was ranked 11th of the 12 teams coming in by Golfstat. Not only did they best Penn State, Minnesota, and Indiana but also #25 Cincinnatti, #28 Ohio State, and #46 Missouri.

Next up is Rutgers hosting the Sea Island Shootout, a 3 team 1 day match with RU, PSU, and Minnesota on Saturday, then The Johnny - O at Sea Island Monday - Tuesday. Once again RU will be facing PSU, MSU, and Minnesota among others.

Rutgers has been bumped up from #95 to #86 by Golfstat. Uncertain if it includes Tuesday's results.

Sagarin/Golfweek, where RU was #85 prior to the tourney, should be updated within the next 2-3 days.
