Miami Basketball and NIL

The Lifewallet investors got a. 90% haircut on the stock price? Ouch!!

They could take pride in the fact that their millions got Miami to the Final Four. I bet they'd rather have their $ back though.

This Ruiz guy is shady AF.

Miami NIL guy John Ruiz is a trial lawyer. Lifewallet a litigation finance business that is publicly traded on NASDAQ. The Lifewallet stock is -90% this year.

Lifewallet announced Thursday night it won't file its 2022 financials on time because its accounts are a mess. John cancelled the investor conference call scheduled for yesterday.

John stands by his claim Lifewallet is worth $32 billion.

Can Rutgers find a booster like John Ruiz?
A con man?

NIL has made college sports unwatchable. At least in the past there was a chance{small chance} that the Blue Bloods might be caught, fined, have scholarships reduced and wins taken away. Now with this current shit show, the Blue Bloods can and do openly get the very advantage the NIL was suppose to eliminate. Sickening as Rutgers will never nor should they try to get into these bidding wars. Put the money in facilities and fork the kids that are solely in it for the money because I don't think this system will last in it's current form.

You probably shouldn't look at our 2024 recruiting.........

Hard to argue "only Blue bloods" when we potentially have 2 top 5 recruits.

Even if we lose out, we are still solidly in contention for elite recruits now - thanks to NIL.

Really? You think RU has solid NIL dollars?? Where did you get this info?

Put the money into facilities? Huh?

Or we can pay some players too and compete (which we are). The days of overspending on facilities is over.

Basketball does, football doesnt. We are paying ace bailey 7-figures.

Pike couldnt recruit a blowjob at a whore house and all of a sudden hes landing 5*’s after pay for play is legalized. 2 + 2 = 4

Take a look at what basketball and football players major in at Rutgers. A huge percentage have a Labor Studies major. So yes, there is a jock major. Not only do we not have science majors playing sports, there are very few Econ or Comp Sci majors either, maybe the 2 most popular majors university wide. Don’t kid yourself as to the difficulty of the academic programs our major sport athletes are taking. And I don’t particularly blame them given their schedules. But recognize the truth.
I forget how long ago it was when RU had an online alumni database. I looked up all the better basketball players I could recall from decades past and almost none were in the database, meaning they didn’t graduate. So let’s not kid ourselves about our academics. We swim in the same very shallow academic water as nearly every other 1a program.

We have some larger donors that have multi year donation plans. You really don’t think they rerouted some of that money to NIL?

I sat in the 100 seats a few times and saw many of the big donors. They are not dumb and know where they get the biggest bag for their buck, and it ain’t facilities.

My season seats are in the 100 and you are so wrong. by the way-- this from an asrticle---"Now, college athletes can earn money from endorsing local restaurants or big brands. The biggest of the stars could earn enough off of their name, image, and likeness to pay for part of their tuition and other college expenses not covered by scholarships. Of course, not every athlete is going to get rich from this change. In February 2022, the average amount earned by student athletes in Division 1 schools was $561 through the end of the month. Even still, it gives student athletes an opportunity to profit from their hard work and helps out with the high expenses of studying at a university."

What about the old system?
I didn't see us landing Top 5 recruits Pre-NIL.

The new system seems to be helping a lot so far.
With GS under the old system even in the Big East we were just fine.

Believe what you want. $1,400,000 to be exact.

Youd be insane to think this kid was coming here and it had nothing to do with $$$
Can anyone else confirm what kyk is saying, that Ace will make 1.4 million plus his tuition, room and board, etc to play for RU for a single year? Not sure how I feel about that.

No one at Rutgers is getting remotely close to one million. That is crazy talk. There isn't one million or close to it in the collective.

A league that did well in the NCAAs ,for example the Big East, gets at best $ 2 million /team for their league's success--why would anyone pay a single college player $1.4 million--what idiot business man would pay those numbers year after year for multiple players on a team. Now I realize someone with billions has the ability to do so and may do so but I think those numbers are very exaggerated. Didn't one of our very best players, Cliff ,get about enough onl yto basically rehab a PAL arena? I know Mac got a car--- but was it a lease?? So we now go from thousands per player to millions? I just can't believe it--who's paying taxes on that 1.4 million? LOL

Even if values are inflated, Rutgers is operating at the top end of whatever the spectrum is.

It's in arguable.
We have a commit from a Top 5 one and done 5* player.

The estimated value to a University in enhanced donations and more primo applicants, etc for an NCAA basketball championship is well over 100 million. It literally helped make modern day Duke and Georgetown. It is certainly money well spent if it brings you to that point. But it is a lot of luck and a crap shoot.

The Flutie effect certainly benefited both the schools you mention. We were on a modest path with 2006 success in football

Yeah but Miami fans could care less.
Just like if jersey mikes had a shady NIL deal for us and we went to the final four . No true rutgers fan would care if jersey mikes lost money on the deal. We would be happy enjoying the final 4 and glad one of our guys got paid.

My post said nothing about fans being happy. Jersey Mike's stock holders (if they are public) might take issue with it. With good reason. It's pretty much theft from share holders. Designating other people's money to one guy's favorite basketball team with no measurable return I would argue is illegal. Fiduciary duty to share holders is the term.

We'll find out soon enough. Some non sports fan investor will ask a court that question before too long. Bet on it

Jersey Mike's is not a publicly-traded corporation. It is solely owned by one individual. By investing less than thirty seconds in research into finding that out, you could have saved yourself the time you took to write your post. Always remember: time is money. https://growingsavings.com/jersey-mikes-stock/

THE POINT IS:
My original post had NOTHING TO DO with how FANS feel about the waste of a company's money on NIL. I didn't BOTHER to check the company structure of Jersey Mike's (hence the "if they are") because it DIDN'T MATTER. The poster's hypothetical about fan reaction changed nothing.

Had YOU spent 30 seconds looking at and comprehending the point I made about the MIAMI situation, you wouldn't have wasted MY time making me to respond to nonsense.

Wow. You *said* that what Jersey Mike's is doing violates its fiduciary duty to its shareholders. But it doesn't *have* any shareholders, so what you said is nonsense. 'Bye!

Like I said , someone's paying taxes on any of this money and you can't hide the numbers some are saying exist for these players. Under the table with millions from wealthy alumni?? keep dreaming.

You're about as sharp as a bowling ball. Maybe just a troll. NEVER said Jersey Mike's is doing ANYTHING. Disagreeing is one thing, but you literally have no clue what my point on the subject is. Nor do you care from what I can gather. If you want me to explain it to you using little words, just ask.

There should really be a remedial board for those challenged in reading comprehension. We could set up a relegation system like Soccer. Folks would get sent down to the "special" board until they master the basics of understanding the English language.

Thats not where the $$$ is. The $$$ is from pay for play from donors
A large part of funding comes in this form to help attract players. MORE $$$ is earned once a brand is built and you can influence on social media though--once that happens you don't depend on the donors anymore and become a free agent for highest bidders(Cavander Twins) that can increase your brand and put more $$ in your pocket.
You need the big donors to make things happen from the onset and show your capability in the game.

Btw, your facts are not facts
