Mike Williams = HEART !!!!

Let me reword

If Sanders ever passed when driving hard to the basket it would open things up for him. The scouting report if he doesn't look to pass would go away.

He is insanely gifted. His effort on the defensive end, save the Iowa game, has been VERY good.

My criticism off Sanders role in the offensive should probably directed more at the coaching staff and not Corey.
Both Sanders and Johnson need to learn how to pass out of dribble penetration. Both also need to learn how to drive and pull up for a short jumper. Starting to see both pull up in recent games; I guess getting your shot blocked consistently at the rim might cause you do start pulling up.

I like this post - both for its comments on Sanders and on Williams.

On Sanders: With all due respect to Greene FIGG, RU is NOT better without Sanders. It IS true that Sanders sometimes plays out of control, and does turn the ball over too much (though this game he was pretty good, in my opinion - no lazy passes this game). I thought his last play was a pretty good one by him - and that the ref really could have gone either way with the call. I actually felt Pikiell should have removed Sanders from the game after his 4th foul - there was just over 5 minutes left, and I felt a rest until the next TV time out (which would have come after the 4 minute mark) might have cleared Sanders' mind a little, after a tough 4th foul.

Sanders has really picked up his effort and performance the last 5-6 games - to his and to RU's benefit.

Williams is just a warrior - but will never be the star. And a heckuva warrior.

I see it the same way. I think Green is off base on Sanders. It is also clear that he's encouraged to take it to the rim even when he might not have a great shot because we have guys who can go up and get the put back when help defense rotates towards Sanders. It's kind of a designed pseudo assist. And, speaking of assists, Sanders would have a lot more if we had someone who could consistently knock down a jumper or finish a friggin' layup! Sanders is NOT the problem.

It is true at the moment that Sanders cannot seem to go to his left. He will learn. But that makes him better than the rest the team, that can't go right, or left, but only backwards after missing a shot. I also agree that he needs to learn to pass more out of that penetration move.

Compared to what we were a year ago, this thread actually points to the hope of the future. Most of the kids on this roster have forgetten what it feels like to win and how to close out. These experiences will help them if they stay together and continue to learn under Pikiell. Every game there is hope to win (except 2). Once the kids learn how to close it out they will be a dangerous team. We still can steal a game or two more between now and the end of the tourney.

4 players converged...had freeman for an easy dunk.

i just think he hurts us more than he helps....look at shooting percentages 1,2 and3 pointers. look at assist to turnovers...look at B1G wins.

At some point you have to conclude he is a major part of the problem. he killed us tonight.

again how many times has he passed the ball when he penetrates hard to the rim....NONE. I blame Pikiell.
Let me ask you a question. He drove the basket about 4 trips in a row and got fouled on all of them. That helps the team down the road in the game if you get the other team in foul trouble as a team and also some of their starters. To me that's smart basketball. do you understand that coaching concept ? Also you said he drove and 4 guys converged on him and he didn't pass off. Could be because with 4 guys around him there weren't any passing lanes. I will take Coach P's assessment of Corey which is in case you don't know is he is doing everything asked of him over any posters assessment on whether he is good or hurting the team.

I hear you.

Funny though about Sanders, he seemingly makes everything a lot harder that it has to be. None of his layups look easy. It is always a hard lay up. The coaching staff cannot play for him. I think he feels the necessity to play at those moments.Like he can win the game and the ball is best in his hands.
