Minnesota postgame thoughts

1) Man was the RAC rockin tonight. Heckuva turnout and the fans were LOUDDDD. I was neutured early on as some asshole sitting courtside complained about me in row A behind him chirping the minny players and getting in their heads. I used no colorful language just good ol jabs but fans like that are the ones that need the boot, end rant.

2) Geo was unguardable. He realized in the 2nd half that minny didnt have a single player that could D him and he fully took advantage of that. Also Tez was just blowing by guys. @minny we looked totally out matched and out athleted, but tonight we looked like the far superior team. Didnt even play our A game and we beat that ass.

3) The defense was SPECTACULAR. Holy cow what a team effort on the defensive end. Between the on ball D, hedges, rotations, box outs, boards. My god that was a heckuva an effort coming off 2 tough losses.

4) pitino aint a great coach. Never really tried to get pick and roll action going which is what kills us on D and his teams are consistently predictable and fall apart by the end of the year. Type of guy whos only gonna win with great players, the completely opposite of pike.

5) ive said it once and ill say it again. I dont care if you hate the idea of setting expectations but in year 4, expectations are for this to be a bubble team with an absolute FLOOR of 11th in the big ten with the upside to finish 5th-6th. My guess is we finished 7th-8th in 2020 and legitimately gather at the RAC with thousands to watch selection sunday.

I hear ya on the caution of point 5 but theres something different about this group man, I said it after our first game vs minny but you didnt think much of it. Dont overlook how important the harper hard foul on coffey and the montez shove on washington were that game. Imo as I said that day, that was the official turning point in this rebuild. That was the day these kids said, were done taking your shit and were here to play for keeps. It was the day the upperclassmen looked at each other and said, damn these freshman are ready to battle, we better be too.

And man we have a really good staff. I might not always agree with every single move they make (i.e. not doubling the post vs illinois) but they make a ton more right decisions than wrong decisions. I really truly think this is a bubble team next year. Heck, if our schedule started from day 1 alll over again today, wed probably be on the bubble with how much this team has grown

They offered football season ticket holders free tickets to one of: this game, PSU senior night, wrestling vs (Michigan? Princeton?) and WBB vs (Maryland?). I would expect the crowd to exceed expectations against PSU as well. Maybe some hungry fans who haven't seen a conference win in some time

1. We won this game with ferocious defense in the 2nd half, and clutch shots down the stretch. We went down by 9 in the first minute of the 2nd half and then turned up the intensity on defense. Before you knew it, we had tied the game.

2. Man, when we get steals on defense, the guys really get out and run like stallions. Tez is just scintillating in the open court.

3. But damn, how can Harper throw up two air balls on those WIDE OPEN transition threes?! He could have blown the roof off the RAC if he hits those shots.

4. Gene was quiet in the first half, but he made some critical buckets in the first ten minutes of the 2nd half, helping us to draw even.

5. Kalscheur was just unconscious in the first half, but tighter defense, and a little foul trouble, kept him quiet in the 2nd half, with only six points. But damn is Oturu a good looking player. Kid will be a beast if he stays in school.

6. Tez was just electric in the 2nd half in transition, but that deep corner three (on a beautiful bounce pass from Geo) was HUUUUUUUUUGE.

7. The RAC was en fuego tonight. Loudest crowd in a long while.

8. Finally, what can you say about Geo? He simply took over down the stretch and willed this team to the win. A drive and kick to Tez for a beautiful three with the clock running out. A blow by runner in the lane for two. A step back dagger three, right in Kalscheur’s face. Another drive and foul to all-but seal the game. An EPIC performance by a budding star.

Haha yeah, i do my studying up on refs names before games. Youd be surprised how if you know their names they start giving you calls and will glance over at you when doing so. Larry’s my favorite ref in the B1G, always talks to me at halftime.

And agreed refs were very fair today. Bo wasnt his normal abysmal self

Isaiah washington on minny basically is the leader of this jelly fam”movement”. “Jellying” a layup is when you cock the ball in your hand while basically flexing at a 90 degree angle and then laying it in while simultaneously crossing your feet in the air in a running motion. See below,



Basically any players associated with the jelly fam movement has gone on to suckkkkkkk in college. So i was sure to remind him jelly fam is dead. And he takes offense to that as he knows its true as kids are starting to make fun of it because every player who reps jelly fam has been huge busts in college

Oh and also, in the past week or two washington posted a video of him jellying in transition vs rutgers when we last played them and showcased myles johnson as the victim. Ron harper was sure to tag myles as it was something that wasnt easily forgotten

Nothing wrong with knowing the refs names at all. Typically I tend to watch for that on both home & away games when we find out whose officiating the game. Have to agree typically speaking Larry's one of the better officials in the conference along with DJ. Glad our boy TV Teddy does not do anymore BIG games.

Geo's post-game interview immediately spoke of wanting to win the last 4 for Dorson, their senior. That's a very good sign. They found something to lay hard for. Good teams do that every game.

Montez... when he learns to drive in with a plan and purpose.. beyond getting to the rim and throwing up whatever he can.. fantastic things will begin to happen for himself and the team. And since he has put in some recent defensive efforts playing man.. he has to learn when to rest on offense... take his time attacking.
