Talking with some coworkers today I've come to a realization that in the end the missed extra points (or at least the last one) helped us to win the game. Of course you never know how things would have changed over the course of the game, but I'm just imagining how much more conservative we would have been on that last drive if we were up 1 (or 2 or 3 or 4) instead of tied. We would have been much more run heavy in particular on third downs as we attempted to run the clock. We had at least two key third down completions on that last drive.

Would we have stopped them if they got the ball back down 1 with under 2 minutes? Past performance this year indicates not.

I see you're brand new. Welcome aboard. I think you'll fit right in with the Rutgers fan S&C program (Speculation & Conjecture).

j/k but that was some first post..

Please tell me you're joking. There's simply no scenario in which any team wants to leave any points on the table. None. I know I would've far rather been up 56-52 than tied 52-52. Teams win far more games they're ahead in late, than tied in late and I don't even have to look that one up.

This is a new one. Scoring less point was actual good.

What's going on in Jersey?

He's not saying that we intentionally missed the XP.

I actually agree that if we had the lead, there is either a better chance that Indiana plays their possession more aggressively, or we run the ball and have to punt. Again, we were not in a 'better position' with the game tied, but it potentially did work out in our favor in the end.

This!

This felt to me like it was similar to the thread we had on Grant's punt return for touchdown in the WSU game, where the OP hypothesized (with tongue in cheek) that we lost the game due to Grant scoring too quickly and leaving time for WSU to make the game winning drive. In both cases, you clearly want all the points you can get as there are just too many other factors that play into the ultimate outcome of the game. It's just fun to play in the S&C program, as R00LZ put it, and speculate on the outcome if we had made the last XP.

By the way, I've been reading / lurking on these boards for many years, but haven't posted since the new format. You guys are very entertaining.
