MODS: Why is Laviano Better Than Rettig

Yeah, but in this case they don't. They really don't, which is pretty damn sad.
I'm sure Flood understands that his fate is tied to the performance of the team, which is tied to the performance of the QB. And while Flood is no genius coach, he's actually not stupid, despite your earlier rhetoric on that point.

I have no doubt at all that Flood and crew are putting the people they see as having the best chance of winning games on the field. There must be things they see w/Rettig in practice, in the scrimmages or the first half of the game he played in, that lead to think that whatever fan-observable qualities he has, Rettig has less chance of winning the game than Laviano.

Or else Rettig would be playing. Because Flood wants to keep his job.

I admit that I would probably be quicker to sit a QB having a bad game when the backup is as close to as good as the starter. But I also recognize the merits of Flood's philosophy of sticking with one guy and letting him gain experience and confidence.

So even though I might opt to give Rettig a shot, I don't have any kind of expectation that he's would come in and light things up consistently. I think he'll be much like Laviano. Some good plays, some bad plays. Maybe better in some ways and worse in others.

I think this theory that Retting is obviously much better is logically unsupportable. Because Flood isn't actually stupid and Flood does want to keep his job.

Nobody outside of the coaching staff sees whats going on at that position day in and day out at practice. Laviano might not be very good, but that likely means that Rettig is just as bad, if not worse. If a chance would help the team, they would do it.
Not from what I have seen when it matters, Game Day! And, I am not so naive as to put my trust in any Head Coach, or the motives of that Head Coach.

You have to click on to my post above to get my response to come up .WHY?Rivals again?

because you typed your response INSIDE the QUOTE box. actually as I look at it again, it seems you may have deleted the ending bracket of the end-quote tag. So the system decided to close the quote for you after your added text.

This new system sensibly limits the size of quoted text while allowing readers to click on the quote to see it complete.

Maybe Flood is still trying to justify his treatment of Nova. Maybe he is playing Laviano because he was criticized so much for not playing Laviano, or anyone else, when Nova looked bad... or even just to help develop a backup. If he plays Rettig now, maybe he thinks that is admission of being wrong about handling the QB position in prior years. Maybe he thinks, if Rettig is really good, his decision-making will look even worse.

How can anyone know what is going on inside Flood's head? He meets with an instructor to talk about grades after he was told not to. And his player is told not to go outside the Hale Center to get involved in a fight.. and he went anyway.. just like his coach.
