Naheem McLeod

Played one year at Chipola JUCO after not making his initial commitment in 2019 to FSU (#149 ranked commit on Rivals).

If he played 1 year at Chipola, then he skipped the covid season (I don't see any stats for him). Then 2 years at FSU (2021-22 and 2022-23. I think he has 1 year of eligibility left.

Pretty sure he has 2 years of eligibility left... He spent the summer of 2019 at FSU but still wasn't able to qualify academically. Then he redshirted his first year at Chipola for academic reasons and played at Chipola his second year there (2020-2021, the Covid year) before transferring to FSU and playing the past 2 seasons there.

With the list of schools, 2 years definitely makes sense.

He redshirted at Chipola JC for academic reasons ?

That's a bit hard to fathom.

Yeah, you rarely hear that... Apparently he had a lot of catching up to do to become academically eligible to play at FSU, so he concentrated on his studies the first year at Chipola and then played the second year. FSU stuck with him until he was academically eligible, so they probably had something to do with him redshirting at Chipola for academic reasons the first year..

No way he’s coming here. Not even if Cliff leaves.
Probably, but other than being taller than everybody else, he hasn't really been a collegiate star... But just like they say about speed, you can't teach height.. And he has time to improve.. From the yardbarker article on him entering the portal:

"The idea of a 7-footer like McLeod is a great one, as he has pretty good feet for his size and has had a couple of big games, like his 16 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks against Syracuse this season. Most of the time, though, he couldn’t handle most passes, had an infatuation with layups and baby hooks over dunks, and would get caught out of position defensively trying to chase blocks. He never seemed to take things seriously enough for what this program needed, and they probably needed to move away from the bigger, trodding centers if Coach Hamilton wants to continue switching everything defensively.

There is a case to be made if McLeod didn’t break his hand at Clemson last year, he could’ve been much better for this team. He was making tremendous strides in ACC play before that broken hand cost him the rest of the 2021-22 season. "

(During his season at Chipola JC, he played in 27 games, averaged 16.7 minutes, 5.8 points, 4 rebounds, and 1.52 blocks per game, and he had 3 assists in his 27 games. At FSU, he played in 46 games, averaged 12.3 Min, 4.09 Pts, 2.43 Reb, 0.48 TOV, 0.87 Blk, shot 45.6% from the foul line, and had 5 assists during his 46 games.)

Interestingly, that was McLeod's only basket of the game from 11/30/2022 that Purdue won 79-69. It wasn't a very even matchup between the giants.

Edey: 33 Min, 25 PTS, 11-14 FG, 3-5 FT, 8 REB, 1 BLK
McLeod: 28 Min, 2 PTS, 1-4 FG, 3 REB, 3 BLK
