Seth Davis
Doug Gottlieb

Rafferty and Elmore plus the others say facilities is a major issue

They have far and away the worst facility," Gottlieb said. "That limits him, but at some point you have to at least be mildly competitive and they're working the other way."

"He's not the problem. The problem is this place has been a disaster," Davis said. "But if you're going to make a sign that you're going to turn things around, you probably need to make a change."

This is why Hobbs better have a boatload of cash in his pocket for that facility when he talks to new coaching prospects. Without the cash now it will be groundhog day again and we will lose the $25 million which I believe has a time stamp on it. Let's say that Waters is the best recent coach. If he took over today the program would go further south. We need someone to come in that is better than we ever had or that has the absolute promise of shovels in the ground immediately. That is the only way to turn this mess around.

Pretty accurate analysis.

How much does the practice facility alone cost? If it's $25 million or in that range, what are we waiting for???

It's $25mm in tax credits for building a parking facility not outright cash to build the practice facility that will be above the parking.

The parking surrounds the practice facility. It's a mixed use building, that's how we got the $ in the first place.

I would think the entire practice/parking facility wouldn't cost over $25 million.

VCU's practice facility cost $25 million. Figure in the higher cost of labor in NJ, cost overruns and graft and we're looking at a $40 million project.

So $15 million more. Can't be terribly difficult to raise.

My problem lies with the fact that it seems we will be waiting for all the money to be raised for 3 facilities (lax/soccer & football). Can't wait that long!

UConns facility was $40M and Nova's was in the same ballpark, I believe.

I disagree. Jordan's woes are WELL beyond facilities.
Not saying Jordan is the answer. But he is not the entirety of the problem either. And it goes way beyond physical plant, i think the history of futility might be a bigger deal.
Sorry but I'm not optimistic that a sure fire turn around artist is available for the asking. In my mind that says more about RU and our situation than any doubt about Hobb's ability to scout talent.
Let's reassess after we see who Hobbs can pull in.

I agree he needs to move on...something we all know will happen
But once again>>>>you dont FIRE a "loyal son" who is a legendary player at RU

You relieve him of his duties...and thank him for his service
once you find a good replacement

Rutgers has 2 years to get the project into the ground or the money goes away.
What transpires in the interim will probably be more chaos because a new head coach will have nothing to sell currently while the competition has more modern facilities. In other words the next two years could follow the pattern of his predecessors with losing seasons. This nightmare has to end and it will require big bucks for a high profile coach and a announced timetable that construction will start in 2017 and completion in 2018.

Except if they are a good coach they sell themselves. They are not helpless.

I appreciate the analyst's candor. What Hobbs needs to finally do that hasn't been done in 25 years is a combination of three things: 1) Finally hiring a proven winning coach and a staff that can recruit. 2) Build the practice facilities and do it right and not on the cheap. 3) Not wait for the B1G full funding in 2021 and even before shovels are put in the ground for the new practice facilities start planning and raising funds to completely overhaul and renovate the RAC, its locker rooms bringing it up to B1G standards.

Yes, it's a tall order, but we're in the B1G and we need to start acting like it. Our athletes need a first rate environment. I firmly believe we do have a "sleeping giant" here, but throughout the half-assed attempts of reinvigorating this moribund program using scotch tape and mirrors, the previous AD's NEVER took BB seriously enough (most sports at Rutgers for that matter) to have it succeed. Hobbs needs to be the one to finally move us into the 21st century. As we move forward, the aforementioned solutions NEED to be in place, and once they are in place I believe the culture of losing in men's BB will become more like our football program, where not only do we expect to win, but we expect to go dancing every season.

Bottom line: No more duct-taping the problems and making half-hearted attempts at winning and drawing in fans with 1 dollar hotdog nights. It's time the BB program and the facilities run like a first rate organization.
