NCAA to Give U of Virginia Seniors an Extra Year

In other news: Ben Mauk files for 7th year of eligibility.
Ben Mauk has entered the transfer portal. His ball handling skills are rusty:

Tragic situation but makes little logical sense from a wider perspective. Sets some interesting precedent too for other programs. Still a team wide scholarship limitation?

Horrible event but this decision by the NCAA is ridiculous. Who becomes the arbiter of how bad something has to be for an entire team to be granted another year of eligibility? Players have been killed or died in accidents before with games being cancelled and this wasn't done. Opening up one gigantic can of worms here.

I don't have a problem with this, singleton should've been given an extra year, but this has nothing to do with that.

Don't see how anyone can be upset about few kids getting to play a few extra games because their classmates were murdered during the season.

I doubt anyone is upset. It just seems like too much accommodation. There’s probably a conspiracy afoot, ain’t that right Colbert ?

The NCAA actually has compassion for student athletes?? That's a first. For those UVA athletes who are able to take advantage of this offer, hopefully this provides some degree of propoer resolution of their college football careers, especially those that aren't going to get an opportunity to at least get to an NFL training camp. Yes, it's a sporting event, and hopefully not the top event in any of the lives of these surviving UVA players, but nevertheless, those seniors lost what should have been those memorable experiences that come with the last two known games of a student-athlete's college life because of the alleged actions of a former student-athlete. One can both agree with this decision for the UVA players, and disagree with how the NCAA has dealt with other unique situations; in particular the unique situation that Drew Singleton had to deal with. In the end, it's kids between the ages of roughly 17-23 that have to live with the consequences of NCAA's decisions, so it's far different than dealing with people even a few years older.

Wow. You people are ridiculous. Teammates were murdered in season. Let them have an opportunity for Senior Day. Wow ! Just wow

I can't see the argument that this "opens a can of worms." This situation is a very extreme one. It's pretty easy to limit the exception to truly tragic occurrences like this one that spoiled the season's end for an entire team.

Actually saw a tweet about that. It could give Brennan Armstrong, if he wanted, 2 more years of eligibility instead of 1.
Hmm.. maybe we should look for a transfer? Maybe this really means that some "elite" program wants a couple kids from UVA and have pulled some strings to get them an extra year.

Drew Singleton denied a year by NCAA

But entire UVA team given another year?

Reading comprehension is important. It's only for those players who are out of eligibility....7 players named in the article, 2 of whom declared for the draft, so 5 players have been offered the opportunity to stay an entire year.

Not the entire team.
