Ndongo

Colorado has 2 -5 stars coming in next year. One is Diop who is a friend of Ndongo. Colorado throws money around like an SEC team. They are sleazy.

Diop is nowhere near a 5*, he's a 4*, closer to the end of the 4* range. His teammate Baye Fall is a 5* kid who picked Arkansas.

I know RU may never NIL-outbid the blue bloods for certain players, but can't NIL be used to get around the scholarship situation. Scholarship limits are not a thing for the bluebloods in football. If you go over the limit, the player walks on and gets a $40K NIL deal.

That being said I'd be stunned if the scholarship situation does not work itself out.
Don't know the specifics, would guess you could. But Rutgers doesn't have an endless supply of NIL. Is that best used on players 1-5 or player #14? Would think we are focused on keeping our best players if there isn't scholarship room then there certainly isn't minutes for them.

Oh, I would not be shocked if all of a sudden it is Colorado as the choice.....and would immediately assume it was the money

We were supposedly in very good shape with the big man from Europe, we sent one of our coaches out there, and all seemed good, right up to the day of announcement

and we lost him at the end to a team that I wasn't even aware was a finalist......

this stuff happens now.
are you referring to the kid who went to Wash St?

it took everyone by surprise, but in retrospect, it was more likely he was going there than anywhere else once the dots were connected for us. and not sure it was an NIL type situation

I wish we could be sleazy instead of just very very economical.

Based upon what we have seen so far, looks like Cliff will be back next year
I agree, he could use another year at RU to continue to develop skills. Right now I see someone who has NBA athleticism but hasn't developed fully the NBA skills needed. While he should be back he may not be because I'm sure that there are people in his ear that he is ready.

that's the guy..... mods were pretty confident we were getting him right up to the end..... it might have been something that we just didn't see at the time..

Loved Chinyelu but Ndogo has much more perimeter skill and still can protect the rim. This worked out just fine for Rutgers
I agree. From Ndongo's highlights, he looks better, I think Ndongo even looks better than Papa Kante - with the big caveat that Papa's value is more in defense/rebounding and potential and not the current value of his highlights. This is working out great for Rutgers.

Cliff does not play big enough on O . This kid could be an upgrade in that dept.

He could take minutes from Cliff/Mag next season and be more of an upgrade offensively than he would be a downgrade defensively. That would be huge. We have some ugly lineups offensively now.

I didn't get the Mag/Woolf hybrid comp based on what others have posted about this kids offensive game. Both of those guys still seem rather limited offensively understanding of course that #13 is a frosh big.

I attended my first game in awhile on Sunday and it is funny that the crowd gets very anxious when Mag has the ball in the open court. Still seems to be mastering the art of dribbling. Love his effort just does not always get the complementary results expected.

Nobody knows Cliff's opinion which might differ from fan outlook.
Cliffs opinion means nothing. It’s the scouts opinion only that matters. If he goes against what’s in his best interest that’s on him but he will make the right choice

Yes even from game 1 when there was much NBA discussion I have felt he is nowhere near ready. It's really fundamentals needed. His defensive footwork is below par. Court awareness too. His athleticism makes up for some, but him on an island in the NBA defending a 4 or 5 would be trouble. He can improve on footwork, block outs, pass catching/hands, and post passing for another year and should. Would give him a realistic shot, as opposed to training camp and possible G league which is where he is now likely headed if leaves after this year,

Cliff back next near, with even more RU threats from outside (GG), will open things up for him offensively.
We may lose a step on defense next year with the loss of Caleb, but offense will make up for it..
Plus, not being double/triple teamed at times will help Cliff develop his scoring set further.

Mag’s dribbling is okay, his propensity to commit charges or make other poor choices in the open court is very high.

Ndongo transferred in late from NY State. Asante Diop transferred out in late October

I get nervous when he is dribbling in traffic in the open court. This happened a few times yesterday and it didn't typically end well. He's not too bad going one on one in the half court.

Hyatt and Mag tend to pu themselves in tough situations where they turnover the ball, or forced to take a bad shot. I would hope they put more focus on Spencer and opening him up to more shots. More he scores, opens things up more, then that is where Hyatt is stronger taking it to the hole.

Actually, Cliff's opinion is the only thing that matters. He is the one making the decision. See Jaden Jones

To be fair, the NBA discussion was basically just on this site.
I may have missed it but haven't seen him on any NBA draft radars at all.

Regardless of 2023 or 2024, Clif likely NBA path is 2nd round-undrafted, training camp, G-League.

He's very old from a NBA draft perspective.
He'll be 22 years old before the 2023 season starts and 23 before the 2024 season starts.

I could have seen him transferring if he didn’t want to put the work in here. Go to a Midwest mid major. Going pro was about the worst advice Ive ever seen. And we have seen so much bad advice has been handed out over the years

Yea the Cliff NBA talk has largely existed in a bubble within the Rutgers boards (largely attributable to his high school ranking). In actuality, he wasn’t really on many reputable NBA draft big boards entering the season — and perhaps for good reason. Would likely be a path to a G-league roster spot for him, but he doesn’t strike me as a likely draft candidate. Could certainly go make decent money overseas though should he decide to leave a year early

Not questioning the OP (I have zero insider access or insights) but it seems a really weird situation.

Ndongo is making it known semi-publicly that he is committing to Rutgers.
But hasn't formally made the announcement?
Did he think that telling opposing coaches wasn't going to leak?
Why wouldn't he make the committment public before telling opposing coaches?

The only thing I can think of is HC Pike telling him to keep it quiet for some reason.
But then why would he tell other coaches?
