Ndongo

Actually, Cliff's opinion is the only thing that matters. He is the one making the decision. See Jaden Jones
Well I would hope he and those close are smarter and listen to experts

Not questioning the OP (I have zero insider access or insights) but it seems a really weird situation.

Ndongo is making it known semi-publicly that he is committing to Rutgers.
But hasn't formally made the announcement?
Did he think that telling opposing coaches wasn't going to leak?
Why wouldn't he make the committment public before telling opposing coaches?

The only thing I can think of is HC Pike telling him to keep it quiet for some reason.
But then why would he tell other coaches?
I think this is usually how it works tbh. When you see a guy (not Ndongo necessarily) with like six or seven crystal ball predictions to the same place where do you think that info is coming from?

Freshman is Freshman. It's always hit or miss as a freshman, no matter how big of potential he has. Definitely do not take away minutes from your star player because of his potential. There is enough of other players to take the mins away from...

Yea the Cliff NBA talk has largely existed in a bubble within the Rutgers boards (largely attributable to his high school ranking). In actuality, he wasn’t really on many reputable NBA draft big boards entering the season — and perhaps for good reason. Would likely be a path to a G-league roster spot for him, but he doesn’t strike me as a likely draft candidate. Could certainly go make decent money overseas though should he decide to leave a year early

Cliff is on some draft boards as a 2nd round pick and in the Top 10-15 Centers nationally. He has a shot to make an NBA roster IMO - mainly due to his athleticism, quick/repeatable jumping ability, wingspan and hand size. His age is working against him as he came to basketball later. This does not mean he will be a stud in the NBA nor that he is a lock to be drafted, but I don't think his discussion for the NBA is in a bubble only on this board. For instance announcers in some of the games have referenced his NBA potential. I'm thinking a late 2nd round flyer or as a Free Agent signing. NBA teams sometimes looks at players as raw materials for their ceiling. They will probably look also at his progression within college and how he takes and applies coaching. His comparable is probably Jericho Simms, super athletic, played 4 years at Texas before being taken by the Knicks in the late 2nd round as a 22 year old. End of the bench type guy who is getting some burn this year at both C and PF. Athletic big men can be coached up and are coveted because they are able to rotate and jump out to the perimeter on D and defend multiple positions. Slower plodding big men who are closer to finished products look great in college - but have more difficult time getting to the NBA as they can be exploited on D.

Man…. None of that matters if you have nothing else in your arsenal than dunks, hard hands and poor foul shooting. He’s improving but not against tougher competition thus far. I hope he continues to grow this year and next, he will be for sure a first rounder

I’m yet to see him in a reputable, updated 2023 mock draft but I could be missing something. And I take the word of announcers with a grain-of-salt. It’s their job to hype up the players in the game they’re calling and naturally a guy with Cliff’s athleticism draws their attention. The full body of work just isn’t there for me to see him as anything more than an undrafted Summer League flyer / G-League stash guy — too many holes in his game. On defense, his post-d and switchability leave a lot to be desired, while on offense his hands, positioning, and non-dunk scoring arsenal need a major upgrade. Not to mention he’s not a great rebounder for his size. Love Cliff and hope he’s back next year, I just have trouble seeing him as a draft pick

Strange logic here. You want him to tell the other coaches after he makes a public announcement? What would the point of even telling them be?

You show the coaches respect by letting them know before they announcs publicly

Wasn't there a thread earlier that Ndongo would announce today? What happened?

Could it be like that Cindy Lauper song...."Money Changes Everything" ?

Who is saying that Ndogo is taking Cliff's minutes??
Best case scenario, Ndongo takes minutes from Cliff and Mag.
Cliff's best offensive asset is offensive rebounding. He is at best our 3rd best offensive player and we overuse him to get him there.
If Griffiths is as expected (as good or better than Cam with more usage) and Simpson improves, Cliff could be our 4th or 5th best offensive player next year.
If those things happen, we will be very, very good. Best case scenario.

Now we are recruiting over Cliff 🤣

This morning I was told he got a big satchel of money from a midwestern school and the money was going to his prep school coach.
