Head coach Jad Prachniak and his (nearby) West Chester University baseball program has won its second Div-II national title in 5 years (2017 and 2012). West Chester works hard to put together a roster. Its roster includes transfers from Lackawanna CC, Miami-Dade, VCU (2), LaSalle (3), Hartford CC (2), Northampton CC (3), James Madison, Maine, and Seton Hall. The roster ...

Prachniak's bio is impressive, including "Southern" exposure, pitching coach experience, working baseball camps in California and Virginia, and 6 years experience as recruiting coordinator at William & Mary.

Even the assistant coach has an interesting bio ... southeast Pennsylvania and southern California. Summer collegiate league head coach, major league scouting in his credentials.

West Chester University is playing to win.

Only that winning can be done by teams from our area if coaches recruit aggressively, beating the bushes, to fill out their roster and lineup and pitching staff. The coaches need to be active, too, beyond Middlesex County. Put together a staff with some geographic breadth and connections to the South and other baseball-rich, baseball year-round areas. An assistant like ODU's Karl Nonemaker, a Morris County native, would fill a lot of those credentials. He may be familiar, too, with what it takes to land JUCOs and transfers.

In the late 50's, early 60's before there were Divisions, West Chester was a power in intercollegiate soccer. Went to NCAA's along with my alma mater Cortland.

I wonder if their "thing" is still Physical Therapy?

Checked out West Chester soccer. Men won the NCAA championship in 1960 before there were divisions. Beat St Louis Billikens, a soccer dynasty of the era, in the final. Looks like the have a strong sports tradition.

My son's football coach at Lehigh University was a former West Chester University player -- Emerson, NJ's Kevin Higgins. Three time Patriot League Coach of the Year. Always thought somewhere along the line that Higgins would end up at Rutgers. Terrific recruiter and talent evaluator and QB coach and offensive mind. Currently an assistant at Wake Forest for one of his former Lehigh assistants, Dave Clawson.

My sister went there and played tennis.

She couldn't even make our HS team at the time since they were so good.

Is physical therapy still the big major there?

I was in West Chester last month and was talking to some of the students. They said that the university has about 18,000 students so I would imagine it has a lot of big majors there nowadays. Seemed like a nice campus and the town itself is beautiful.

I love West Chester. Great town to live or raise a family in, right at the end of the Main Line.

Karl Nonemaker, Roxbury, N.J. native, just got the Asst. coach job at Auburn after coaching at ODU and helping turn them around. Why are we not even reaching out to these guys?

The truth is that Nonemaker will make more as an assistant at Auburn than he would as the Rutgers head coach.
