Nebraska Smokes Maryland

Another reason why the outrage last night was over the top on this board.

no it wasnt, it was a horrible loss, RU played like crap. Nebraska was awful for about 30 minutes this game. RU should have been up double digits in the first half.

just because they won today doesnt mean Nebraska was good yesterday. Whats funny is we had fans saying oh if we won yesterday we would have got blown out by Maryland..wtf

RUTGERS TURNED THE BALL OVER ON 1/3 OF ITS POSSESSION, I think RU shot 48% for the night

Nebby is riding emotion, it happens when you get in a tourney

The posts in this thread are just absurd. No matter what Nebraska did today excuses last night or Sunday’s pathetic performances.

You have a hard time separating what RU does vs the opponents we have played. RU didn't play well because they're clearly better and more talented than Indiana and Nebraska or because they raised expectations for the fans here??

There's nothing wrong with giving credit to your opponent, vs coming across like a whiny entitled fan....when RU went 3-15 last year and won the 2 games at MSG, reading the Indiana boards last year was like Indiana needed to fire Archie Miller, vs giving RU credit. Then when RU played lights out vs Purdue, fans reluctantly started to acknowledge our program.

I could say Indiana played like crap if I was an Indiana fan last year and 2 months ago when RU beat them at the RAC....or I would respect the opponent who backed up their game with another good game today.

Palmer, Watson and Roby are better players than anyone of our youngsters right now as sophomores or frosh.......to call the loss inexcusable is fine, RU had too many turnovers and mistakes but there were multiple "pathetic" performances....I guess any loss is pathetic during a rebuild....

It was a terrible loss no doubt and an awful way to end the season but people were overreacting and putting way too much stock into the last couple games of the season over the the full body of work this team put in the past few months.

Not disagreeing that last night was probably Pikiells worst loss but basketball is a longgg season and even more talented teams go down like Maryland did today to inferior teams. In my eyes were still in good hands under Pikiell and on track but need to get over .500 or better next year to keep the trajectory going.

Rutgers played like crap in both games, irrespective of opponents .

40 minutes in two straight games from Palmer. Love the kid for doing it and respect the coach for allowing it.
But we keep saying how tired Geo is yet this guy plays 40 minutes that’s a bad excuse for Geo he needs to do what Palmer does take it to the hole strong

I agree to some extent . But next year it matter and pike is going to have to be accountable if the results are similar . Next season is the time to get into the NIT.

I agree with you on that...long term picture is great and we are in great hands with Pike and next year will be better, but its also okay to admit that last night and the last 3 games were a disappointment

Not sure why Nebraska's outcome today should make me any better about what I witnessed last night? I am very surprised they won but that has no bearing on the lousy performance from Pike on down last night.

This.

We should have won last night by 15. A lot of unforced turnovers, too many fouls and tooo many missed layups.
Nebraska is now us from last year. Our 3 game disaster to end te season took away a it of goodwil earned this past year.

Didn't see that one coming, especially with UN playing back-to-back days with only 6 guys. Just our luck we ran into a hot team on a mission. FWIW, MD is ranked and lost by one more point than we did.

we did

What I've been impressed about Miles is that he game plans his defense to stop the key player on the opposing team and forces someone else to step up and beat them.

Nebraska is now us from last year.

What? James Palmer last year and again this year, is better than anyone on Rutgers' team. Period.

So even if you account for team performances, Nebraska still has a player better than anything Rutgers has had for a few years now and who is playing out of his mind in this tournament. If you have that....you can advance in a tourney playing with only like 7-8 guys on the roster. Rutgers didn't have that last year, doesn't have it this year, and won't have it next year. That right there alone makes it hard for RU to win anything in a tourney setting, unless the whole team is hitting on all cylinders.

This isn't about RU's coach or Nebraska's coach, etc., as much as it is about James Palmer for Nebraska kicking ass and raising his game to a level you can't coach and RU doesn't have.

sorry RU didnt have to play like world beaters to win yesterday. RU was playing poorly and still up. RU players played like crap bottom line. Maryland did as well today. Nebby elevated their game today because emotion but yesterday they were pretty bad. RU turned it over 22 times.......and it wasnt because they pressured us

by your reasoning we should be 0-20 since every school has more talent than us.

looks like Nebraska is hot and RU had the misfortune of meeting them when they were in heat.
The Cornhuskers confidence grew after they bear Iowa Palmer had 27 that game and 24 against the Turtles.

But we keep saying how tired Geo is yet this guy plays 40 minutes that’s a bad excuse for Geo he needs to do what Palmer does take it to the hole strong

Geo isn’t strong enough to play 40 minutes. He wore down last year due to illness and probably also because he was a freshman and being asked to do too much. He wore down this year again late. Even his rare drives late in the season seemed much weaker. Yesterday, he looked like the weakest player on the floor. Hopefully, he gets stronger as he matures during the next two years.

Wow, thats crazy. How the hell did fernando not just completely take this game over?
Turgeon still doesn’t get it. Maybe he’ll see next year when Fernando is catching 4 lob dunks a game that he should’ve been running a spread pick and roll with his team.

Turgeon has probably squandered more talent than most coaches have access to in his time at Maryland

Surprised we did not go to zone since we fouled Palmer constantly last night.

Ok, I will take the bait and bite. Let’s assume everything you say is true. But you do realize this is college basketball and the head coach has full control over the roster? That means your stupid excuse doesn’t make any sense.

I am laughing at the people who think if we beat Nebraska that MD would have been an auto W. They creamed us at the RAC. Basketball is about matchups and Nebraska has a go to experienced guy that scores at will and draw contact like a pro. That type of player can carry a team and is a problem for any opponent.

Man. As bad and listless as RU was last night, Maryland fans have a right to be three times as angry about what they saw today. I think Miles has been forced to play a desperation style on defense and it's unexpectedly confounding young teams. Good luck to them!

Agree with all stating the Nebraska loss was a bad showing. It was. What is simply stupid is the over-reaction from the emotionally unstable crowd that essentially calls for Pike’s head or wants Geo to transfer after every loss. For me I am disappointed with how the season ended but I see progress, the team exceeded my expectations overall, and I’m more optimistic about next year. Go RU!

Now that the season is through I think some of our drama queens need to go shopping. I’ll suggest the GAP so you can Grow A Pair.

Not sure how much you remember from last year's tournament when Corey Sanders scored the 6th most points in the tournament history and made the all tourney team. My point is that everyone is talking about Nebraska like they were talking about Rutgers last year.

Let's put it this way, give literally ANY coach in the B1G our roster except Izzo, tell me what he does with it.

Then you'll be like me, I have been to Chicago, NY, and D.C. for B1G tournament...**** you Turgeon.

I didn't waste my money or time this year. Only reason to go is St. Patrick's Day parade.

Face it. We have been bad for so long its easy to wax negative

But the fact of the matter is we did have some success THIS year
and we definitely had improvement THIS year
we did better THIS year than I ever though we would

Coach P found four solid "under the radar" players(I find that amazing)
next year we have 2 ..maybe 3 new recruits
our "old recruits" will mature and improve
plus....better facilities are on the way

I see a LOT of upside

Coaching staffs have two major basketball responsibilities ,namely, recruiting and player development.Rutgers has made slow progress in both areas since joining the B1G.At the end of this season Rutgers is still a bottom tier league team and probably will be preseason next year. Its a difficult grind moving upward without go to scorers and Rutgers has learned that hard lesson.

In so many games this season a basket here and there would have stopped opponents scoring spurts and in some cases actually led to wins. The dependence on defense and rebounding kept the team in many games but down the stretch the lack of scorers resulted in losses.

Next season offers new challenges with some new players and hopefully better expectations/results.
