New Baseball Stadium coming soon....

We need to steal the Yogi endorsement from Monclair to use on our stadium!

Why are they moving off campus?
Because the current facility isn't adequate for big games?
Renovate the current facility then.

If it's not a monetary reason, then why move?
They’re not moving off campus. Games will still be played at Bainton. They will be playing a number of games each year at this new facility, but they’re not abandoning on-campus facilities (current or future).

Reading the article it sounds like a stop gap. 3-5 year contract to play a split schedule there. Sounds like this is being done to gauge interest from greater community. And possibly used as a home while they build out a true on campus stadium.
This is the best theory I've heard, but even if the 'stop gap' theory is true - I still hate this. We are in the B1G - all of our games should be played on campus except for the time it will take to build a new stadium ON CAMPUS (which I don't even see any talks of). So now we are going to charter our players from New Brunswick to Edison to play a game in front of pretty much zero of the student body. Sounds like some backdoor deals were made where certain people got taken care of with very little thought of how this will affect Rutgers baseball as a whole.

How does recruiting work with this - come look at our campus with all the bells and whistles. Now if you just drive 15 minutes outside of our campus you come to our baseball stadium. Don't worry we will drive you there in style! We have an A1 charter leaving at 1215PM every day to take you to practice!

I really would like more of an explanation on this because on this surface this reeks.

Wasn't this one of the main ideas behind stopping to play games at Giants Stadium? There was no sense of 'ownership' and that this was ours. Same idea - pretty much all games need to be played on campus - FULL STOP!

WVU built a stadium with input and investment from the county much like this new facility. It’s a rookie ball stadium in the off season. It has been a major success. They have huge crowds for the games and most of the fans are from the local area. I think this could be great for RU baseball. Attract lots of new fans

OMG that’s so lame. Going to MCC for home games. Why don’t they upgrade their current ballpark, which btw is an embarrassment. I pass by Vanderbilt’s ballpark when I go to the VA. Light years ahead of RU which is like a top end HS field

Didn’t read the article or the follow up from the baseball coach? Moving “some games, split schedule” to this facility. I read that as weekend games to garner more community support. It’s a 3-5 year contract. Starting in 2026.

Has nothing to do with monetary reasons. They will be renovating and building out the on campus stadium.

But sounds like typical Middlesex county politics money grab with the hope of attracting a larger tenant in the future.

Who runs their stadium and who will run this one? Is theirs on another college campus? Theirs is 4 miles from campus and a 7 minute drive. If Rutgers built their own ballpark at the old Sears it would be a good comparison

WHERE did WVU build that stadium?

been there plenty of times...the WVU stadium is very close to the campus, behind a shopping complex on a beautiful hilltop......very pleasing and would be the equivalent of moving to Johnson park vs Banton field...

Put in next to Top Golf on Route 1 in Edison
That location is packed with entertainment and restaurants. Would be a great draw.

Someone has to explain why funding or financials are available for this off campus and not on ???? Doesn’t make any sense at all. A stadium like that would be such a beautiful addition to Livingston campus . Just doesn’t make sense at all to be building this off campus.

Find something else to like, but stop hating everything about NJ and Rutgers. Your act is tired, and if it's not an act, geez, go get laid or something.

IDK what to believe. Aaron usually has solid and positive takes. He says is saves money to build the football practice facility.

LOL at all of the complainers in this thread.

It’s not a permanent move and our current facility is pretty subpar, especially for broadcasting.

Would love to know how many of you have actually ever attended a Rutgers baseball game.

So the intention is to start renovating?
It appears not - so then why move now with no plan.
RAC needs renovation. We’re not moving out of there yet.

Why can’t they wait until ready to renovate?
And if not renovating immediately - why?
Appears to be financial constraints.
Back to my original question then - what is the AD spending tens of millions to of money on if they can’t afford the renovations.

Note - lived on Livinston so was able to easily attend both basketball and baseball games. It made attending the infamous “Blizzard Game” when HC Waters was stuck out of town a breeze. Since apparently that matters in having an opinion.

Well, as has been hinted...he's not spending any on this venture.

It’s run but the county, in collaboration with the University and a minor league team that occupies the stadium in the summer.

Not that I agree at all, but if we are doing this now, why hell didn‘t we just do this 20 years ago with TD Bank Ballpark?

Did you miss the part about how there will be an athletic facility master plan released in the Fall?

I’m sure that will answer your questions.

Playing games at the Middlesex venue doesn’t appear to be the long term solution but in the near term in should boost recruiting and help with tv broadcasting which the current field isn’t field well for.

Most folks don't understand how corrupt Middlesex County is (small step behind Hudson County). For every dumb decision, there is a "reason". For example, after expanding and rebuilding Route 18, why the hell is there still a light at Paulus instead of letting the traffic flow to Route 1? Because Middlesex County power broker and former State Senator John Lynch lived off Paulus and wanted to keep that light for his convenience.
How would the hundreds of people in the Raritan apartments (across from Dewey Heights) get to route one?

If it wasnt for John Lynch you wouldn’t need a light at Dewey Heights because if he didn’t get J&J to stay in NB it would have been a blighted city.

Politics is a tough business, and I’m sure the guy pissed a lot of people off like yourself.
That being said he gave New Brunswick a fresh start and made it into a major success story. Providing jobs for people from every area of the state.

On a side note Rutgers Stadium never gets the makeover in the 90’s without his efforts.

some of you are really ignorant to how gov't and funding works. If this goes through and RU plays there, our home field footprint never increases as this stadium will be used as leverage.

Very easy, access to Route 1 via a u-turn overpass a little further down on Route 18, very common option. Ends don't justify the means. John Lynch ran a criminal organization with bribes, kickbacks, pay to play and pay to get promoted, harassment, etc.

This is my concern. Especially this being a multi purpose stadium. hopefully this doesn’t delay progress with on campus lax and baseball facilities.

Reached out to someone for some insight. He said the county is looking to use Rutgers baseball to gauge community interests for further investment in minor league soccer/baseball etc….
