***New Uniforms and Knight***

When they do uniform unvielings they put school name on the back. They will put players name on the back for actual game jerseys.

From an outsiders persepective.

I like them, I think they are simple and classy, but I like that kind of look.

I think the small block R looks better than spelling out the name, and the red helmets look good. I'm glad you didn;t get some kind of ugly ass checkered flag thing like maryland or some ugly dayglo colors like Oregon runs around in most the time. They look like a classic B1G team uniforms.

OSU = sharp.

Kinda too simple, but I like the new RU unis 10x better than the all salmon and black home uniform disaster. The striping on the OSU uniforms is much sharper.

The new Knights secondary logo kicks ass. Would like to replace on the helmet R for some games aka MSU.

Really love the chainmail treatment, Turay really would've benefited from this a year ago.

Not a fan of the new Knight head. At all.

The new Uniforms are...meh. An improvement in in the colors department, a step back in design.
Sorry do nor care for new unis at all the numbers I especially do not like. What is that? My kid draws like that. I know the fans of the uni will attack but I don't get it.

hmmm.. looking at the white in the background and on the pants, I think the red in that photo, which is damn nice, has been tweaked yo look more scarlet, more saturated. That closeup of the fabric in an earlier photo shows more of the Nike "salmon" look.

I must say. I thought Rutgers had one of the nicest uni's in the country the last couple years. I am not feeling these new ones.

But hey! Too each their own

Generation X can't be bothered to form an opinion.

I'm a "millenial" (Rising junior in SAS) and I don't hate it. I'm just disappointed in it. The coloring is FINALLY fixed. Thank god. But the design is a step back. These aren't unique OR classic looking. They're just...bland. As if they were aware of how controversial the last unis were, so they decided they'd go with something that is just kind of there.

They're even more generic than say, PSU's. PSU, at the very least, has a classic numbering style. These just kind of have some generic font for the numbers that doesn't seem to fit the Block R font at all.

They're just kind of...there. Honestly, if they were going to barely try like this, they might as well have given us the 2011 unis back, and maybe added the random "chainmail" effect on the side (If they really have to), keeping the all white helmet look for away games. Those were a much more "classic" design imho.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I would've loved to see a color pallet change on the last uni set. Remove the scarring on the jersey, (maybe) on the helmet, and you've got a really cool uni.

TL;DR, Generic new unis, seem like a wasted effort when they could've just used 2011 or color-changed battle scarred unis.

Gen X'er here lol and I disagree. Ok they are bland, but I will take these over the 2007-2011 ringer collar uniforms with the bubble fonts that were like a cross between Penn State and the Chicago Bears (clearly a Schiano brainchild). I liked the white and black uniforms the past 4 years but I wasn't feeling the chrome helmets, the salmon jammies and the faux battle scars. Nor was I feeling those black-ish helmets we wore vs MSU and Ohio State last year. Solid black helmets with the red sword striping would have sufficed. I also like these white helmets better than the ones we wore the past couple of years that had an odd metallic red striping/lettering. The white facemask with white helmet looks clean and traditional like Texas.

And believe it or not, these fonts are unique to us as is the chain mail. That's good enough for me.

I don't find them bland at all, I think it's a great mix of traditional and modern. The chainmail on the sleeves is a nice touch. It's unique and subtle, not gimmicky or distracting. I like the block R on the chest better than Rutgers written across as well. There's only so many things you can do with a uniform.

I think I'd like them better without the R, B1G and swoosh over the numbers on the front. Ah well, you must have marketing.

In any case, they're fine. I'm generally of the opinion that, unless you go full Oregon, you're not going to be doing anything special with a uniform so you might as well just go middle of the road.

Honestly the people saying the jerseys are so amazing just because they can read the numbers are so small time thinking. These jerseys are as boring, simplistic , and in-unique as it could get. The sad part is that the soccer and basketball remake jerseys are even worse. The soccer ones look like Tshirts for gods sake.

Someone in the AD department said to Nike "make the numbers readable and make them red" and Nike basically stopped the entire process right there. And didn't spend a second more on designing the jerseys.

While I think our new jerseys are solid, I can't help but think that Nike has their 'B' team working on our jerseys. There is just something about these and the ones that came before that just seem like everything wasn't thoroughly thought out. Or they were just like 'good enough'. I'm not saying they aren't good, just think they could be better.

Said this from the get go.

When you watch the video from Nike introducing the new uniforms you could tell this was the JV and they do not get us.

Nike's not going to use their best designs on RU when they can save those for teams that will net them much more exposure. I just wish they'd stick with a uniform design for awhile though. A uniform isn't going to seem iconic if it keeps getting redesigned every few years.

Well, they got rid of the battle scars which helped make the jerseys look pink. Add gray to red and what do you get?

Looks like the chainmail pattern on the sleeves they went a little darker and that is good. If they went shiny silver there we would have had pink sleeves.

Now.. the numbers, I just don't get. With the whole "knights" thing we are going old.. and the rest of the look is more traditional. But those numbers are too "modern". They clash with the rest of the design.. but at least you can see them.

Throw traditional block numbers on that and find a way to work in 1766 and (for 2019 at least) 1869 and we got something good. That's two pieces of tradition we really have and should highlight it in every possible way.

Think about it.. the whole "Scarlet Knight" thing came, what, 75 years or more after we started playing football? over 175 years after the school was founded? When students were all into that Esperanto thing... in 1955 by a vote of the student body after just a 30 year run as the Chanticleers. Something must have been in the air about knights in armor because in 1960 Camelot came to dominate Broadway and later a popular movie.

GRRMartin is from New Jersey. Maybe we can lobby him to stick a Scarlet Knight into his "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. But I don't know why we seem to favor the Knight image (ala chainmail sleeves) over the sheer age of the institution (using those modern numbers).
