Nice job today CVS, again

She'll be back and maybe Hobbs knows what he's doing by bringing CVS back.
So did the OSU. They took hew twin sister Chelsey, plus they made Kelsey Mitchell's father an assistant coach. Ashli can contribute as an off the bench player.
Ashli may come off the bench. Heck CVS has started a walk on. If Ashli didn't have her sister, she never would have gotten a Div 1A scholarship.

IYO. You can't possibly know that for certain. Unless, of course, you have personally spoken to every D1 coach and they have confirmed your allegation.

I just believe her contribution will be nil. And that she may have been signed by another Div 1A school, but also that she is not a Big10 player

I haven't really had the chance to see the other Juene play but from what Ive seen from spurts of playing time last yr I think she is pretty darn decent. The D1A comments you made are completely absurd. I'm sure she's had other offers.

Absurb ? Read my posts before u shoot off your sarcastic mouth!

She was a 1,000 point scorer in high school, her team's defensive player of the year (where I think she could have helped us this year), and was recognized by ESPN HoopGurlz as one of the up and coming guards in the country in 2014. To say she would not have had any D1A offers if she didn't have her sister is both uncalled for and ridiculous.

Yes absurd. You are obviously ignorant in her abilities as a basketball player. Why don't you do your research before you shoot off your irrelevant comments. don't attack me, I'm not the one who looks foolish.

After reading your post: It looks like some are disagreeing with you saying this>
"If Ashli didn't have her sister, she never would have gotten a Div 1A scholarship."<
ChasRC69 told you why.
I don't understand you asking what's the deal when it's obvious the deal is : what you claimed about Ashli
Also it's not nice ( my own opinion) degrading a RU player like you tried to do by implying she hasn't enough talent to pay D-1A basketball.

I guess no one saw my last post. It was next to my name, but looked like (for some reason) that it was part of ScarlettB post. It says..."You r right. my opinion and wrong of me to sound like I have a crystal ball. I just believe her contribution will be nil. Go RU!

Very sad. I wish u well. Go RU.
By the way, I only took issue with your comments about Ashli, not necessarily about CVS. This year is not good, but we knew that was going to be the case at the beginning of the season. It will be a bad year, but one of the few times that her bad year is worse than a lot of our other teams' good years. My feeling is that next year is the key, not specifically about the results, which I believe will be very good, but about the recruiting. There should be 6 scholarships available for 2018 and if she and her staff don't recruit better than the past few years, I would want CVS to retire before the following recruiting season when there will be another 4 or 5 scholarships available. I'd like CVS to leave on her own terms and timing, but it's been obvious for several years that we are no longer a threat to any of the better teams in the country. We need to recruit at a higher level.
All that being said, my wife and I will still be at all the home games until we're taken to a home.

Another disappointing loss tonight. A winnable game for sure. Only scored 35 pts in the final 3 quarters at home, after a very optimistic 1st quarter.

Agree with Don everyone keeps saying we are going to be better next year what does that mean we may be 500!! As we have seen for many years with her coaching style it is rare for players to just come in and play for CVS especially freshman. We have no top recruits coming anymore because no one wants to play CVS old style of basketball. Every year Hobbs keeps her it is setting the program back another 2-3 years.

I suspect we could be better than .500 - there are no freshman coming in next year because there are no available scholarships so far as I know. Rutgers is using the maximum number that the NCAA permits already this year, with only a walk-on leaving.

You are correct about incoming freshman not often playing, which is why I have said I am much less worried about next year (specifically) if she comes back than the future there-after.

As to the style, I think if she hadn't made some changes over recent seasons I think your statement would actually be correct at "no-one"; I don't think it is quite so restrictive now. I fear, however, that Rutgers had had to "settle" on the recruiting front, and I don't think the CVS system will work when she "settles" and doesn't get what she needs.

Reminds me of John Chaney and his last few years, not good.
Yes that has come up a lot and though I fully support Vivian Stringer and don't mind her coming back as RU's WBB HC next year, I can see the comparison between the two and how it fits.

As I said before : if Hobbs decides to replace Stringer next year ( even after saying he plans to bring Vivian back) I can understand why he might do that and you'll hear no complaints or whining from me
disclaimer: with the exception of CVS' replacement being a on the cheap hire and/or funds not allotted to hire a good staff.:chairshot:

Why would anyone think CVS should continue her career at RU when she arguably had the most talented team (only Maryland could be put in the same conversation) in the Big Ten last year and we only make the NIT tourney. AND we get blown out by Virginia (a team we beat the beginning of the season) at home.

Hobbs will ridiculously bring CVS back and the program will continue to suffer making the inevitable next coach's job, that much harder. With the attendance numbers, they might as well move the games to the Barn. And still won't come close to selling out the old glorified gym.

We do have one verbal commitment for next year - Jada Wright, a 6'2" post player from Rich East H.S. in Illinois.

There is 20 ppg sitting on the RU bench. TScaife

and she was there last year and the year before and still the team underpeformed. She will make the team better for sure but if this team had trouble with Laney, Copper and Hollivay you think all these new players will somehow get her back to the promiseland

I'm not sure about a promised land. Just better, as you say.

I don't know what the flaw was with the Copper / Hollivay led team. The last time I liked what I saw was before the flop - mostly against Northwestern, IIRC - at the end of the first season of B1G play. Don't know what happened, but I'm not paid to.

Part of it is certainly the evolving game. I heard former Texas HC Jody Conradt speaking on TV last week and she admitted that you simply cannot any longer win consistently relying on defense. But you sure can do better than we have been.

In any case, I would expect that next year's team will be over .500, at the least.

CVS made her own bed with this team and its roster. She must beable to look present and forward to how many players she is losing each year, the talent she is losing and what positions she needs to recruit, Tyler would clearly help, but do u think we would have won tonight with her.
CVS's success has depending most on her recruiting. Now that train has left the station, CVS is just a below average coach. Any good coach could get better play from this team. They are not the most talented team, but there is enough talent for a good coach (let alone a HALL OF FAME coach) to squeeze every bit of talent out of them. And they would never lose to Minn by 30+ points.

CVS, PLEASE resign for the sake of the RU women players present and future that I know you care about. Your time is over!

I believe that the frequent absences by CVS last season, due to her mother's illness, combined with the turnover of the entire coaching staff (who were still learning the system), played a major part in last season's poor performance. I'm not saying that we would have been a Final Four team, but I have no doubt that it made a difference.

100% agree and have said so in the past. But I have thought - based on what I read and the post-game presser - that by the (bitter) end of last season there was some disfunctionality (if that's a word), and I never did completely understand the late season collapse the year before. That said, it isn't always the coaches fault, which is part of the reason I am so frustrated with what I read on the board. I wish folks would explain why they believe the things they do (as you did above) and not just make blanket statements.

Because I am not there and have seen very few games on TV, I can't judge the talent level looking ahead to next year. My random comment from what I have seen is that we looked scattered, for want of a better way to put it.

While I don't envision more Final Fours, I do think CVS can win and take a team to post-season. That's why I personally would like to see her get a chance, but I recognize why folks are so disappointed in this season.

The real shame was last years team, they should have been much better. This years team is young and outmatched. I think 10 years ago CVS would have had last years team near the top, we clearly had the talent of a top NCAAW team.

Rizwran, I realize that this part of the thread is old, but I missed it previously. Please tone it down. Thank you...
DMD I have been in your corner, defending you at times and thanking you many times for all you have done.

But give me a break. Do not tell me to tone it down when I was responding to Cindakane saying I was "Obviously Ignorant" and my post was "Absurd". My (tone it down) post was "Absurd, read my post before you shoot off your sarcastic mouth". Cindakane's post was not exactly constructive criticism. But you didn't say anything to her.

*****And Why didn't you say anything to Cindykane when she called me a "BAFOON".

And my response to this Very Sarcastic post was..."Very sad. I wish you well. Go RU."

I never start the sarcasm.

Please explain. And do not tell me to tone it down again unless I deserve it and others that posted worse posts are addressed by you.

Very unfair!

Constructive criticism? I gave you some. I called your post ignorant because your lacking knowledge in the players on this team made you look like a fool. Educate yourself on this program and what it means to Be a part of the scarlet knight family before you speak. I'm tired of you negative internet trolls. I know you aren't a D1 college coach. You're a grown man bashing a bunch of 19-20 year old women. So I am SORRY if my sarcastic mouth offended you. "Go RU!"
