That's not going to happen though so now that we have been handed lemons do we make lemonade or cut the lemon open and squeeze the juice straight into our eyes by not supporting NIL?Agree. Isn’t going away. So stories like the OP will not go away either.
Only way to remedy this is to stop paying college athletes. It was a major f- up.

I choose lemonade
If, by amateur players, you mean college athletes, then that's never going to happen. That ship sailed.Stop allowing amateur players to be paid.
For what you want there is no remedy no.I hate NIL. Ruined college sports so no..I’m not supporting and never will.
I’ll still enjoy games since I love the game of football. I’ll still root for RU to succeed on and off the court and field.
But why would I support something I wholeheartedly disagree with?
Kinda getting off topic.but to stay back on topic..I don’t think there’s a remedy

College Sports with NIL has become European club soccer. The different conferences are the different leagues (Big ten- English Premier League, SEC- La Liga, ACC- Serie A, Big 12- Bundesliga). The College football playoff has become the equivalent of the Champions League where the top teams from each of these leagues compete in one tournament to determine the best club in all of Europe. The best backed clubs consistently, year in and year out are the ones who qualify for this tournament. Yes you occasionally see the Cinderella make their way in but they never win it. It's always Real Madrid, Chelsea, Man City, Barcelona, Liverpool, etc.. the best backed always win.
This is how major college sports will be for the rest of our lives man. If you want something like what cfb used to be, I'd recommend following Monmouth
I think some CBA will happen but don't know when or how it will be organized in terms of players' union and NCAA/school back organization. If, by amateur players, you mean college athletes, then that's never going to happen. That ship sailed.
And it shouldn't happen anyway. No logical argument exists in support of preventing college athletes from earning money that doesn't trample all over college athlete's rights. College students on non-athletic scholarships can earn all the money they want. So while it might not be the proper legal argument, it's basically discriminatory to prevent college athletes from earning money the same way non-athletes can do.
Any solution, if in fact there's a problem that needs solving here, is going to have to work around the fact that college athletes have the right to earn money. Perhaps college players will form a union and that union will work out an agreement with the schools and NCAA (or whomever) that works like salary caps in pro sports, or something like that. Or some other approach that doesn't curtail player's rights.
As long as their are massive amounts of money being made off the work of college athletes, college athletes are going to get paid. And they should because it's pretty obviously unfair for them to not be paid.
I suppose if everybody (you, me, everybody) agrees to stop earning any money - if we eliminate money for everyone - that might work. 😉
I hate NIL. Ruined college sports so no..I’m not supporting and never will.
NIL didn't happen overnight. When college coaches started making excessive millions (often becoming highest paid employee in some states) the handwriting was on the wall. It didn't help that colleges themselves were running tuition scams. Parking/concessions could cost more than tickets. Everybody was chasing $$$ and players risking knees, spleens, ribs, brains etc were getting NCAA dinged for relative trifles.
Northwestern players being organized by Chicago crew was a siren that the bombers were overhead.
Wow blast from the past. Didn't realize he was still coaching. He was the HC of ASU in the 2005 bowl. Absolutely carved us up. I think Schiano talked shop with him that off-season to improve our d.
I guess that's the part that doesn't make sense to me. I understand if you don't support what college sports has become, but with the knowledge that it has changed and is never going back why continue to dedicate time and attention to something you don't support? I'm not asking you to go away as a fan or anything I'm just genuinely trying to understand the logic. You're essentially saying "I hate the league, I hate everything about how it's run, but I'm still gonna watch it." I simply don't understand why anyone would dedicate time and attention to something that they so adamantly don't support. To each their own I supposeI know. I’m not disagreeing. This is how college sports will be. Again, doesn’t mean I have to support it.
I’ll still watch, I’ll still root..but I’m not going “support it”
I actually thought he might takeover when Arroyo got fired. He was consultant or interim OC at the time iirc. They promoted their DC at the time instead and Koetter became full time OC. If I notice anything, I see it's the older guys like this who have already gotten their paydays that leave. Haven't seen any of the younger coaches not being able to handle it, frankly they could be the ones tampering haha.Wow blast from the past. Didn't realize he was still coaching. I mostly avoid telling people what to do with their money and, other than financial advisors, never listen to anybody trying to tell me what to do with mine. And I'm not telling anybody to contribute to NIL funding.I know. I’m not disagreeing. This is how college sports will be. Again, doesn’t mean I have to support it.

Yes. I'll make a prediction. If this playoff structure stays basically in place, we will never see a G5/non P4 make the playoffs two years in a row. Every team like Boise will have their roster in the crosshairs.I actually thought he might takeover when Arroyo got fired. He was consultant or interim OC at the time iirc. Despite whatever tampering might happen (I'm sure it does all over), Jeanty didn't leave. Some will leave and some will stay, that's just the way it is. It is harder for the G5 because the money will be bigger now that schools can pay players and you can't blame players for trying to maximize opportunity.
Stop allowing amateur players to be paid.

im not sure why people ignore thisI w
I wouldn’t call $80000 a year scholarships for free education, free food, free lodging, lots of free clothing, shoes, etc……..trifles.
It is when you consider the revenue these athletes were producing for everyone besides themselves.I w
I wouldn’t call $35000 a year scholarships for free education, free food, free lodging, lots of free clothing, shoes, etc……..trifles.
Because Juan Soto just signed a $765 million dollar contract for something people care less about... That's why. Those that don't wanna see this and change with the times will be left for dead.im not sure why people ignore this

$80,000 a year is the equivalent to being a dental hygenist. Meanwhile schools and networks were racking up MILLIONS on their backs while they were NOT ALLOWED to seek employment. Something needed to change

I'm guessing you mean the same G5 team 2 years in a row, not the G5 as a whole. The G5 will most likely keep their 1 slot regardless of playoff structure.Yes. I'll make a prediction. I would absolutely call that a trifle. The scholarships are free for the school to provide, and the incidentals are a fraction of a fraction of the Big Ten slice of TV money coming into the school.I w

Playing major college football is more of a job than sitting home making Zoom calls.
Its a year round pursuit with a lot of work and risks.
A week of CFB practices are not like high school practices.
I think CFB players earn their money more honestly than the radical profs warping kid's minds and wrecking their job prospects.
Speaking as a former athlete at Rutgers University, we were not allowed to have jobs during the season. Between practice schedules, class, travel, required study and tutor hours, there wouldn't be enough time in the day to begin with. This was communicated to our entire team at the beginning of each year by Coach StagnittaThey were allowed to get jobs. Who said athletes couldn’t work??
It’s not slave labor. No one forcing them to play sports. No one forcing them to play a fun game children play for a feee education, meals, clothing, lodging, tutoring, etc….
LOL. See ya.this
if not time to find another past time

Schools will most likely be able to pay players starting next year, assuming the lawsuit gets approved. I think that's some time in AprilI would absolutely call that a trifle. The scholarships are free for the school to provide, and the incidentals are a fraction of a fraction of the Big Ten slice of TV money coming into the school.
And NIL money isn't coming from the school anyway. It's from entities external to the school. What's the argument for preventing external entities from giving money to players for marketing purposes, for their endorsements?
And again, if non-athletes can earn money outside their scholarships, why should athletes not be able to do the same?
You are remarkably out of touch.. Thank goodness you aren't running things as we would screwed if so. Adapt or die, it's that simple. For some reason you don't wanna adapt and still wanna dedicate time and attention to something that has changed before your eyes to the very thing you didn't want. I truly do not understand why people would dedicate time and energy into something they fundamentally do not support. Again, not telling you you have to support it but why pay attention then? Just to work yourself up and get mad at the world?Don’t get me started on professor salaries. Lol..
Again, no one is forcing these kids to play.

Yeah, we wouldn't want to pay educators well. After all, an uneducated electorate is such a wonderful thing for our nation.Don’t get me started on professor salaries. Lol..

Why do you care what anybody else makes? America is a free country and being able to earn as much as possible is part of the American dream. If you're not happy with your salary, don't take that out on everybody else by trying to limit their earnings. Work harder.
You are supporting by watching.I know. I’m not disagreeing. This is how college sports will be. Again, doesn’t mean I have to support it.

You didn't work with them during their season. I can promise you that. I had a job working for the Bookstore during the fall semester as I played a spring sport, they knew and worked with athletes schedules knowing full well we couldn't work during the season. Something needed to change. The fact that schools and TV networks were racking up MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS of dollars on these kids back, selling their jersey's with no royalties whatsoever (lord knows I still have my #27 Jersey that Ray Rice never saw a dime from). It was a racket. A racket that finally got what it deserved.Ok. Not gonna doubt that. Thanks for sharing,
But I know plenty of athletes that worked during my time at Rutgers 02-06. I actually worked with a few of them
