NIT - Is it possible and would we host?

The NIT will actually be wild this year. Possible Pitino and St Johns in it, hosting games at the Garden (where we’d likely be sent) … make up for the preseason double OT loss in Carnesseca .. THAT would be awesome.

Tourney will also likely feature some of Indiana, OSU, maybe Villanova, Seton Hall .. lots of fun it will be this year without all the scrubs anymore. Hope we can find a way in

I offer this based on zero knowledge of how this works ;) but I just wonder….

With the ridiculous log jam in the Big10 this year ….8 teams within 2 game of each other….if the season ends with so many teams with VERY similar records… maybe the committee WILL look at performance in the Big10 tourney to decide which Big10 teams in that log jam make it and which don’t?

The NET should NEVER be used in anything except SOS.

NIT selection committee is using NET.
The top 2 NET teams that DON'T make the tournament from the Big Ten, ACC, SEC, PAC 12, Big 12 and Big East(?) are getting AQ bids to the NIT.
So that's 12 AQ bids before any other schools.

Hyatt? Lmao. You may not have liked the pass but it actually went to a Rutgers teammate. How about the 2 horrible turnovers from Mulcahy and the missed free throws by Spencer and McConnell?

Multiple plays were bad but the Hyatt one was really bad. Someone posted a screen shot of the 4 minny players on the baseline and Hyatt is just too unaware to dribble up court for someone who claims to be a "big guard"

I don't think I've ever seen a program/team more up and down over the years than Pike's.

At RU? Correct. Mostly because we haven’t had the “up” part in the 45 years prior to his arrival.

LOL..no up years since 1978 . OK. My five years (AFTER the final four) were 109-55 with two NCAA invites....and then there is this little tidbit.

"The NCAA expanded the field to forty in 1979, then to forty-eight in 1980 (with no limit on the number of teams per conference), then to sixty-four in 1985, and finally to sixty-eight in 2011."

With 40-48 teams getting in exactly how many of Pike's teams would have made it?

The up and down comments were related to game by game performance btw. Not years.

I mean i suppose we can be 17-16 and get in...maybe travelling to Providence as the 8 seed as the Friars host.....or the 8 seed travelling to one seed St Johns or one seed Villanova.

NIT is fading fast. Two reasons:
1) last year in the NIT selection show the experts picked us to win it all and we shit the bed at home against Hofstra.
2) we’re limping to the finish line this year and prob won’t have a winning record anyway so it’s a moot point.

Maybe the Bulldogs also get a boost if they're co or outright Ivy League champions. If the committee wants to appease the power conferences and get a big name, maybe it's Indiana. (The Hoosiers also have two nice wins lately.)

I like the NIT when it's the only option, but this Maryland team has checked out. I kind of hope they don't get in...
