No. 24 Rutgers Baseball Visited Ohio State for Three-Game Series

on the B1G website, the baseball standings show UMd in 2nd at 10-3. But if you scroll down their schedule, they have lost to NW (today), Minnesota, Illinois, and PSU, which makes for 4 losses. So RU is up 1 in the loss column, 4 in the win column, and UMd has three games in hand. So they must have missed a weekend series along the way or have one extra series to make up.

But next weekend will be the biggest series on the Banks in a long time.

We have a weekend series vs Bowling Green between the Mary and Mich series’. Weird scheduling quirk.

Bowling Green is currently 13-27. Hopefully that doesn’t become a trap series. I don’t think Owens and theses guys at full strength would let that happen.

The only focus these guys need is today’s game. They have a great opportunity to win the regular season title, secure seeding and at worst secure a NCAA bid.

I hope Coach Owens reminds his players of this 2020 Columbus OH sports columnist Ron Oller who referred to Rutgers Athletics as a 3-legged dog. Rutgers has made a lot of progress in sports. Let baseball continue to beat Big Ten opponents.

From 8-3 Ohio State to 11-8 RU. Top of the eighth, Ohio State making another pitching change, RU with a runner at third and 1 out

Home run derby in Columbus. RU goes back to back again. Now lead 11-8

Sweep city! 11-8 RU final! Sensational catch by who else, Lasko, gets the final out in the ninth

They don't ever seem to be truly out of a game with their ability to swing the bat. Nice comeback win today.

A good team for sure let’s see them become a very good team this coming weekend against Maryland. Go RU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With the transfer portal these days, you have to savor a day like today (and this season) and hope that Lasko (and others) don’t become the next Jonah Jackson’s.

Unless he’s draft eligible I would suspect Lasko will be here next season. That being said just enjoy the sweep and keep it Rutgers.

Has Steve Owens been extended or has Hobb’s reworked his contract yet? The man has constructed a very good staff and team. If we’re not careful someone even in conference may be interested . Hope the upgrades are in the works. Enough talk with “ we are working on it” just get it done ver the next two years.

I hadn’t looked at Rutgers statistical numbers since early in week 2-3 . For those who wonder about the strength of this club all you need do is take a look see. Ryan Lasko: 359 avg. , 13 homers, 42 RBI’s and ironically he’s not our top guy. It is eye opening and I have witnessed some past great Rutgers clubs under coach Freddie Hill Sr. I realize this isn’t the anointed SEC or better ACC teams but I gotta say, “ Rutgers is a pretty good team.” Now go beat Seton Hall and Maryland boys.

I checked out the stats for the final game of the Ohio State series. Rutgers had 5 HBP. Ohio State pitching trying to reclaim the inside corner of the plate, or we have Ron Hunt as our batting instructor.

And Ryan Lasko is only a sophomore! Much more to come. RU Baseball making us all proud!!
Unfortunately, only one more year after this -- three years to pro for draftable players is how college baseball has worked since way before early exits became common in other sports.
