No. 24 Rutgers Baseball Visited Ohio State for Three-Game Series

Dude…they ARE a “very good team.” My Lord some of you lol!
You reacted and didn’t realize what I said , I have forgotten more about baseball and what constitutes a great team or for the fact a very good team then you would ever know. Win this weekend 2 of 3 and beat Seton Hall and you move into a very good team. “ Some of You “ ? I have said in my postings nothing negative . I won’t waste my time arguing with a DB who just needed a platform to criticize what he viewed as anti Rutgers baseball. Stop your stupidity … we are a good team .

And NUTS … I’m not your DUDE … maybe you can call your boyfriend DUDE?

You’re so arrogant it’s stunning. We are 36-9.(15-3) and sitting in FIRST PLACE IN THE CONFERENCE, That’s .800 ball. If you don’t think we are already a VERY GOOD team you’re dead-wrong.

Calling me a “DB?” Coming from the guy who use to email John about ne for cursing on these boards, among a slew of other things, you’ve got a lot of nerve. Get over yourself.

What is wrong with you? Hitting the sauce a little early today? I’ll call you “dude” every single time I respond to you, if I feel like doing so, okay? My Lord!

I’m arrogant when a clown like you starts criticizing my opinion saying this RU BB team was a “ good” not very good. You don’t like the fact that someone would have the audacity to not agree with them. The proof is you look to start issues especially since it appears you have a long held animosity with something from years ago. BTW: Well you did curse and sling BS back then . The emailing was requested by John . You act like a spoiled child mind you .You bring up something from years past … so telling me to get over myself is sort of calling the kettle black. Grow up … they’re a good team… is there something wrong with saying that? If I choose not to use the very good-great terminology that’s MY choice … not yours junior. Have a great day and GO RU !!!!!!!!!!!!

No , I m asking you nicely now . Do not call me DUDE. WHAT DON’T YOU understand about that? Call your friends DUDE… call your siblings DUDE… maybe they’ll be good with that? Better yet… don’t respond to my posts which by the way were only positive about the RU BB team. As I said , “ grow up junior.”

You’re so full of it it’s not even funny. Everything I was saying back then about Flood, which you didn’t like, was 100% spot-on axcurate. And who cares if I curse? Or if anyone else curses? I never cursed at you or at any other poster so what’s the big deal? My Lord you LITERALLY were emailing John telling him to ban me because of FACTUAL information and using curse words lol!

I hold no ill-will whatsoever to you and never have. It’s actually just the opposite if you ask me. You’re the one who has been anti-NUTS for years.

Oh and NUTS… no animosity on my part either. We have had some knockdown disagreements and issues regarding many things . One thing is we both love Rutgers and the teams we follow. At this juncture in life and with the world ‘s steady decline it’s time for all of us to try and do better. I’m going to work to do just that . I look forward to seeing this RU baseball team take the next step . I mean they are a GOOD team…Right?… RUBOB72…DUDE

Since I’m accused of being a nabob of negativity around here, dare say do I even ask the question? Will Seton Hall be Princeton redux?

If we're looking ahead to Maryland, it's possible. Seton Hall hates us and plays their butts off when they play us in any sport.

We will beat Seton Hall . I don’t believe Owens will allow a letdown or let his team think about the biggest Series in many years at Rutgers .I hope fans pack Bainton Field. The pollsters don’t show us any respect whatsoever. RPI at 45 today… not in AP…not in Coaches- Warren

I am shocked (not doing Casablanca here) that Rutgers is not in every top 20 by now. Sometimes life ain't fair.

RPI is a different animal. Honestly, the Rutgers OOC schedule was very soft, and it's a slow recovery from that. And sweeping bad teams doesn't help much. I was just reading some posts by Iowa guys who were complaining that in this conference, you usually can't bump your RPI without a sweep, which is unfortunate.

Maryland's strength of schedule was pretty good until conference play started. it drops double-digits every week now.

Next weekend Rutgers - Maryland is going to be a huge boost in RPI to both teams just for showing up. Bonus points for winning games. It's what teams in stronger conference experience every weekend...

Exactly the point of why in the years ahead and as the talent level becomes consistent we will see Owens and Hobbs work to schedule a number of good teams . Example is we traveled 5500 miles to Oahu to play the U of Hawaii MBB club. Not an easy task as year in and out Hawaii has a decent team. We took 2 of 4 from them . After a slow start they are 24-18 overall and 14-8 in conference. It’s not their best team but it was a good trip for Rutgers and a good test for the season. Our past of scheduling the Miami’s early on was daunting but I would rather have us play a few ACC or SEC schools . Perhaps a PAC school like USC, Arizona State, Arizona , maybe Pepperdine or Cal State Fullerton? Perception is everything and this team would have shown well against several of them. Recruiting is the lifeblood and Owen’s use of the portal this season was proof. We need to continue to bring in depth and keep some top NJ pitching prospects here. The main facility upgrades if and when that occurs will inject even more positive discussions from around the country. We have always produced great baseball players from New Jersey. It’s what we do.

Agreed. Instead of Hawaii , look what UConn did and how it paid off for them. Victories at USC , Pepperdine and other SoCal powerhouses early in the season planted them in the Top 20 and there they have stayed. Hobbs should try to schedule good cold weather teams like UConn, Notre Dame, Creighton at neutral sites in Florida early in the season. If they want to come West do what UConn did or take a swing through my neck of the woods and play games at powerhouses Oregon State, Oregon and Washington ; that would be a challenge. Think big.

Of all the college sports, baseball is the one where the best team most frequently suffers a loss. The game is at Seton Hall, not Bainton. Their projected starter has been sharp his last three times out; a total of nine innings pitched, no runs, five hits and one extra base hit. Florida is also much better than Seton Hall, but they dropped a game to them. Connecticut had two one run wins in their three-game series. I’m hoping that RU completely humiliates them, but in baseball, I’m never as confident. of the expected outcome.

Your point is spot on especially playing away from Bainton Field . Seton Hall like any team with good pitching can shutdown a good hitting team. It’s really a in state rivalry game and has been going back many years. Having known and played against teams coached by two former HOF coaches Mike Sheppard and Fred Hill Sr. this game or games always was a given. They coached against each other in high school and American Legion which led to this friendly on field competition. Records were thrown out in this one. I always worry when you are heavily favored against a rival underdog opponent. in games like this one records don’t mean a thing. Here’s to a Rutgers win GO RU!!!!!'!!!!!!!!!

A few observations from this thread. Peripherally following RU baseball over the years as opposed to following them closely this year, Owens scheduling (not Hobbs for a previous poster, HC's decide who to play) was appropriate this season. They needed confidence and even though they feasted on some lesser teams, it was better than coming home with a record like 5-15. Freddie Hill had his philosophy for early season scheduling but in reality didn't do many of his teams juatice since they had a long struggle to even get back to .500. Recruits want to play for successful teams, not those with mediocre records. It worked for Hill for many years but not his last half dozen seasons. High school recruits will definitely notice this team's record and performance.
The lack of a higher ranking is definitely lack of respect based on past years' performances. I don't care if we played all patsies, you can't ignore 36 wins and top 10 in hitting, fielding and ERA. The run differential is astounding. I still can't believe we lost a 1-0 game early in the season.
Good pitching will almost always trump good hitting. Maryland will test our hitters and if we make the NCAA's, they'll face more good pitching. That and the depth of our staff will determine how far we go in the tourney. The top teams will throw 3 top starters at you. We can't do that yet IMO. But Owens has this team believing, just based on how many late inning comebacks they've had this season.
Let's all just enjoy this team. We have a bright future with Owens and his assistants. Looking at the roster, doesn't seem like we'll be losing many significant contributors (barring any portal losses).

Great post in my opinion.

At this point in the season, there's no way Rutgers should not be in everybody's top twenty, no matter what...

One more thing related to rankings. I looked at who the voters were. All were from either out west or down south, very few from northeast. I think there was only one B1G voter

Unfortunately, only one more year after this -- three years to pro for draftable players is how college baseball has worked since way before early exits became common in other sports.
Ryan will be drafted well next year. Kudos to him. Ryan is da man.

conifer, you are a good dude. I see your hoops posts also. Excuse me if I should know this, but why do you post here so much and so positively about Rutgers?

Owens makes the schedule, not Hobbs. I don’t know of any teams’ schedule that Hobbs makes. The coaches decide, the athletic dept executes what the coaches want.

I'm from Maryland, and will always be a Terrapin fan, but have lived in NJ for quite a while. Also, my son is a Rutgers grad, and has provided me with piles and piles of Rutgers apparel that I wear frequently.

To top that off, I consider myself a guest, and when I do have an occasionally negative thought, I try to keep it to myself...

Fair enough. You took it far too literally. I’ll be most interested in seeing what next year’s out of conference schedule looks like.

I would guess Hobbs approves the schedule suggested by coach Owens based upon travel distances and costs to the program. He may not choose the actual teams we play OOC but for travel such as Hawaii in baseball or the West Coast I am fairly sure he is part of the final decision. Now seeing where RU is strength wise in 2022 I am guessing Owens will start playing some better clubs next year and beyond. Hill Sr. didn’t shy away at all and from what I’ve seen from Owens with his toughness we’ll play an elevated OOC schedule. The keys for that are overall team depth and pitching strength. Players , especially top D-1 guys want competition and a challenge . You see why we are really not ranked except in only one College BB poll. It is sinful that at 36-9 Rutgers has still not gotten a sniff from the overloaded biased voters of the West-South and Southwest . We could have anywhere north of 40 -45+ wins after the B1G tourney and if we don’t finish in the Top 3 of the conference not get an at large bid. It is unlikely but still a distinct possibility based upon our current RPI and strength of wins against level 1 , level 2 and level 3 teams . It has been 14 years since we last made the NCAA tourney I believe . Another long term like it was in MBB .

You said, “Hobbs should try to schedule…. “

I just corrected your statement. All good.

And you agree that Jersey tomatoes are superior to Maryland tomatoes, right? I have family in Maryland who won’t concede that basic truth.

Yes, I expect Owens to schedule a tougher OOC next year.

This current season, Owens was saddled with the away Hawaii series (he inherited it), plus I don’t think he thought we would be THIS good. We have Maryland and Michigan and the B1G Tournament coming up. If we keep winning we will be absolutely fine.

He can leave after soph year if he turns 21 before draft (don't know his age).
