Northwestern’s Postgame Press Conference (1/11/23)

Curious for those RU fans in attendance if they could provide their insight on the environment and that arena. It looks like a nice venue for them after the renovations.

I always enjoy the opposing coach's pressers more than the vanilla pressers from Pike (not meant disrespectfully). It's helped form my opinions of these coaches like Painter and Underwood and changed my opinions of others like McCaffery.

I saw that in the football jersey. Sad that’s a good environment especially given the team they produced this year. Jersey fans are just different.

I live outside of Chicago and we were in 3rd row behind the announcers table just behind and to right of RU bench. It is very small, much smaller than the RAC, someone said it could hold 6k people, that seemed like a stretch. It is very nice and did get pretty loud, especially at the end. I spoke to one NW fan. He passed me heading to snack stand at half. So my RU hat and said Mulcahy must be in his 6th year by now, corrected him and said it was year 4. I told him Boo Bouie was older than me (in my 50s) and he laughed. Spoke at end of game and he said atmosphere last night for RU was as loud as he’s ever heard it. Good student section, got all over Pike when he went down near baseline by Student Section, I thought it was funny. NW is good, better Than I thought and they have a small but sharp fan base. My wife is a PSU alum so we are going to go to the NW PSU in March. Will give it 4 stars.

Didn't they renovate their arena fairly recently, reducing the capacity from around 9K to the low 8K range?

Painter is awesome. Talks schemes, breaks down plays, and scouting reports.

Coach Pikiell is truly awful at press conferences. Responses to direct questions are either vague generalities or to discuss something totally unrelated. I do wonder if this is a calculated move. To be clear, I love the guy, but never bother listening to him talk about the team. There's literally nothing to be gained.

You can pick things up from Pike. He uses clichés to support his coded messages.

Yesterday was hilarious. People who don’t understand Pikiell’s sense of humor are the ones who don’t enjoy his press conferences.
“The refs are trying to do a good job” … LOL not “the refs are trying”, or “the refs are doing a good job” … but put them both together hahaha

As soon as he finished saying “the refs are trying to do a good job“ he looked to someone to his left and got a big smile on his face (as much as a smile as he can). He knew exactly what he was saying about the refs. Good catch ScarletDave.

I believe one of the announcers mentioned the new renovated arena seats 7,000.
