Politi NAILS IT on Pikiell’s Postgame Comments

Mirage in a way that those games dont represent the team

Exactly..i said as much early on..thats why those automatically saying we win all these games with a healthy Harper are comical...team is what is...wildly inconsistent. Thats not changing even though people seem to be grasping at desperation
A team's best or worst games never "represent the team", though I guess having two of your best games be losses does kind of represent this team.

I think we likely (but obviously there is no actual way to know) would have 1-2 more wins if Harper were 100% healthy the whole time. But that's not even enough and as you point out, injuries happen. If your team is so dependent on one guy that his missing a few games torpedos the whole thing then that is a huge issue in itself.

This is the same "Call your shots" type of Politi or On the Banks article that was written just a couple of months ago, after a 4-0 start spiraled to 4-4......any fan who follows the press conferences of Schiano, he essentially said everything Pike said, just in a different level of spin.....this was after the debacle of UCLA and Homecoming. But granted UCLA had the better QB, better WRs and playmakers on the field.

Here is Schiano after the UCLA Homecoming loss.....

I’ll just close it with this, guys. We will get there,” Schiano said. “This program will get there. I know that there’s going to be certain people that want to cast their ballot and say, oh, we’ve got big problems. You call your shot. Just remember, we will get there, I promise you. So you want to call your shot now, just call it. But know that you’re calling your shot. This program will be just fine. Thank you.”

Schiano has mastered the element of coach-speak following games. It is no surprise when looking at the recent history of the program. Schiano is 23-29 overall, 10-30 in Big Ten play, since returning in 2020. This was a year that brought accelerated expectations with three conference victories during a Big Ten only schedule. Hopes were let down once again as the team went 1-8 in the Big Ten in 2022. A seven-win season in 2023 and a large majority of returning starters made many believe that Rutgers could compete in the Big Ten.

Those notions have gone away midseason.

The Scarlet Knights have been outplayed in each of the last four games. If it wasn’t for Washington shooting themselves in the foot constantly, Rutgers would be in the midst of a four-game losing streak. Let’s focus on today.

Schiano took the podium following another poor performance against the Bruins and put his usually words to the side. Fans have heard constantly about “Chopping the moment” but at this point, what does that mean? The performances on the field have not lived up to expectations."

Same narrative, same coachspeak, same results......

I cannot for the life of me understand what your point is here.

Schiano did a thing
Schiano is a football coach
Drug induced psychosis
Therefore Pike ????

Both Schiano and Pike have to be laughing their asses off at this program. They’re taking candy from a baby….and they don’t even report to anyone two levels up…lol

...I said something similar a few posts ago. Schiano gets skewered for stuff like this but Pike seemingly gets a pass.

I agree with you completely and it needs to stop. Of course, first we need a president, then we need an AD, then we need a coach. The shit show just keeps getting worse. We used to blame the league we we in but now it’s obvious it’s the incompetence at the top that trickles down and acceptance of mediocrity below that.
It's no secret that as an abused fanbase, a large segment of our fanbase (and unfortunately donors) salivate and feed off of mediocre results. It's a disease that is worsened by stupid contracts, raises and extensions handed out like Halloween candy. The major positive in all this is our football coach and mens basketball coach are good guys who run clean programs. That seems to be a salve for many.

Schiano gets bashed here weekly as well especially in season. Have you ever attended a court club meeting ? I did and I heard Pike tell that group of people how important NIL was moving forward and you got crickets from the room. There was no enthusiasm for it JUST LIKE HERE. NIL gets bashed daily but now you want him to create miracles while other fanbases who make a ton less money get it done. Our diehards are diehard about commenting on message boards and bashing players and coaches.
Court club aint exactly full of folks who can stroke 7-figure checks, lets be honest here. Greg has multiple 7-figure check writers, most of which have zero association to RU. Pike needs to think outside the box.

I’ll get ripped for this but the court club looks more like a 55+ community gathering room for a game of bridge at noon on a tuesday than it does a corner office

I’ll defend Pike on the recruiting. Getting Harper and Ace was a miracle. The other transfers looked good on paper. This team doesn’t have chemistry because of all the frosh and transfers.

I will not defend Pike on coaching. I don’t understand why we didn’t play D for the 1st 15 games. Points we were giving up to avg teams was alarming. The lack of offense…..dead horse.

We do not know exactly what Schiano did or didn’t do. You can say the same for Pike. Pike in that meeting begged the so called die hards many who post on this board and he got nothing. You’re right it’s a. It creepy sitting in the court club meeting with so many senior citizens but I love the school and the program so I go. Same thing happens at the Touchdown club meeting. My point is the fanbase ignores what NIL means to winning and just bashes away. You think BAC is donating a dime? Yet he is considered a die hard and is one of the biggest bashers of the program.

Oh i agree..schano never accountable either and his defenders slnost always fall back on injuries

A massive collapse in bowl game and then another extension to make OC top 25 in salary

In fairness he did manage to at least finish 3-1 to end the season..is Pike going 7-4?

I say, and I've said it in other posts, if Pike didn't have enough NIL, then don't spread it a round to 5 transfers who aren't B1G level. Use those dollars to get 2 B1G capable players (assuming Pike can properly evaluate B1G ready players), use a shorter rotation and for god's sake play Grant and Dortch early in the OOC games to get them ready to play. The hell with redshirting in this day and age.

I'm seeing some of the same posters who skewer Schiano defending Pike with the same exact logic, which baffles me.

I believe this is called "transference." Politi cannot process the fact that Duke is crushing it in the ACC whilst his beloved Heels are tied for 7th place. LOL. Hubert Davis isn't getting it done despite a team full of 5-star talent and all the NIL $$$ he could ask for. So all that frustration finds its outlet on RU and Pikell. Go Heels!

Pike’s biggest mistake is the rotations he puts out. He lets struggling players continue to get way too many minutes. He did that with Mulcahy when he self-destructed two years ago. He’s doing that with JWill and Martini. Especially JWill to be honest. I can’t stand watching JWill. I watched the first half of yesterday’s game again. His three fouls in the first half were all weak And 1’s to Michigan State. (The third one should have been, but the guy missed a bunny.) He is the ultimate momentum killer. I’m not a sports better, but he must know the spread for every game. If I bet against Rutgers in games this year, I’d be making some good money. The only good games he played were in Vegas. 🤔

Just play Acuff and Dercack as much as possible instead of JWill. Even PJ gave us some hustle and was in the game when we clawed back at the end of the first half. Dercack’s defense has improved. As long as he stops making his dumb, fancy passes, he deserves to get more minutes than JWill.

Rutgers is 8-12 against the spread this season but that is a little misleading because we started 1-5 when the team was massively overrated and since that was corrected have been 7-7.

Speaking of this, when do the AD interviews start??
If one believes the assertion that the AD search begins after new president is hired, the interviews would begin last this year, possibly October or November.

Amy Towers said the prez search would begin this month and take nine or ten months. That takes us to September or October.

The new prez will have a lot on the plate but with athletics a priority I expect the AD search to commence soon after the new prez starts.

Let's say the AD search takes 3 months. Then, Rutgers will welcome the new AD in early 2026.

Not defending pike it’s his roster and the negativity will obviously be severe but I think people will recognize that not having Harper functional is kind of a big problem.
Yea obviously, but he was there and it was still obvious (and the results were such) that even if he didn’t miss a single play, this team was very unlikely to make the dance.

And nobody is going to look back and care being quite blunt. We don’t get another chance at it. The opportunity to dramatically change the ceiling and course of the program will be gone.

Ace is the only guy on the team who has consistently played at a high level. He was hurt early and rushed back from injury to ensure he was there for his team.

In my opinion Ace is to be applauded, he’s playing his ass off while being supported by massively flawed Frankenstein roster.
Shelby wouldn’t call it a Frankenstein roster. Frankenstein has useful traits. This is a ‘festering, dog diarrhea in August’ roster. No ambiguity.

Shelby can’t find suitable words to describe what next year’s roster looks like so far.

Grant is the only legit plausible Big10 starter on the roster now, including Sommerville.

What happens if Pike decided to retire

We need an ad now...let Greg hire one
He’s not walking away from guaranteed money

Regardless, we need a new president and athletic director ASAP.

We’re still operating like we’re in the big East or Atlantic 10

The people in charge need to wake the hell up and find competent people to lead this great university immediately if not sooner.

He could have demanded harper wear high top sneakers 😃 .

Are there studies that i missed showing hightop sneakers don't actually reduce the chance of rolling your ankle?

Harper has been wearing Kobe’s in most games like a huge percentage of players at all levels.

Players roll ankles. Shit happens.

We are cursed.

Someone explain to Shelby. lower bar for Schiano because he hasn’t ever recruited 5 star players ?

Lower bar for Schiano because expectations are lower ?

LOL

We are hiring a school President not an entry level employee. This takes time. Plus we have a Governor getting elected this year. We have already started the process of hiring a President when we still have the current guy for 6 months.

The guy deserves to get crushed for his F level coaching this year. But to say he had nothing to do with the recruiting....ayeeeee

Just stop this completely idiotic narrative . He's the fkng head coach.
