Northwestern Post Game Thoughts

Doorson is certainly frustrating on the offensive end but says something when, after the five second inbound violation, Pike sprinted down bench and grabbed Doorson to get him in game for defense when NW had a chance to take the lead.

That's nice, and essential, but what does he do on the other side of the court!?
The team lacks consistent scoring game to game.Doorsan plays for his defense and occasional basket .He is a role player that serves a useful purpose including senior leadership.

GTFOH with the Doorson criticism. It's absurd...not because it's criticism (I am all for that), but because it's inaccurate.

he is a huge part of this team...the culture, the leadership, the effort, the SIZE.

does he have limitations. heck ya.

do we win these games without him? No.

Holy clueless take, Batman.

Regarding #4: montez was a little out of control tonight, i thought having mcconnell in was the better move. Just a calmer player not looking to always go go go.

Regarding #7: doubling the post is so easy as you saw tonight and it effectively kills offenses that work through the post. Pike should do it more often
Mathis is out of control most nights. I've never seen a player drive to the hoop and throw up contested "prayers" as much as him. Some fall, most don't.

Lucky to win with too many turnovers and poor foul and 3pt shooting. Gotta give them credit for overcoming that and getting a W.

Johnson's bucket under the hoop was a dandy & clutch. Thought the foul shooting was going to cost us once again. Wasn't pretty but good win for this young club.

Let's be realistic he hurts the team on offense. Four vs five. There is no reason to pick and roll with him.

Yup. He was actually 5-7 inside the arc last night although some were of the ilk you described. He was 0-5 from three, and he should not be shooting 5 threes in a game (even if one was at the end of a shot clock)

his erratic drives get caught in the air and jump shot off one leg are out of control. Some nights he gets to the rim, that is what we need

Doorson should not be on the court, let alone start! The potential of this team is surpassed only by it's ignorance about the game of basketball. I think we have a very good coach, but he caters way too much to the older players. And, I use that word "players" with a huge grain of salt.

This is an awful take. We already have a team that struggles guarding the perimeter. Now you want to take out our senior banger who is a solid rim protector. Doorson will be sorely missed when he leaves. While Johnson will surely step into that role, that depth at the 5 could cost us a game or 2. Only knock I have on Doorson is his atrocious free throw shooting. Besides that, he has been a part of this turnaround.

About the press.. I don't know why ours is not better.

We have the long-reach guards... we have the eraser at the rim.. I think we fail in the mid-court area... when we force a longer pass from the backcourt.. we need 3s and 4s who can jump that pass. That requires anticipation and quick feet. I think Harper, Johnson and Carter could be those guys.,, you need a certain amount of power in those legs to get the jump needed to get those passes. I think Geo could be that guy too if we use other guards checking the ball in backcourt.

I don't know how often we'd really get to use a press against teams that might struggle.. but last night we should have been better at it.

Rashod Kent was perfect at that role of the guy to intercept the long pass from backcourt.

Doorson is a warrior, a great teammate, a captain, a leader and a loyal son who bleeds scarlet.

I will be standing in ovation on senior day for Shaq. He will be missed. But he will remain a great ambassador for our team and for our school. He’s a total winner in my eyes.

I guess you really wrong lately , as he has had more alley oop dunks in the last 5 games than he has had ever as well as the baseline dunks off the feeds from Eugene or our penetrators. Geo’s assist total is almost entirely made up of his passes to Shaquille.
