Oden Redshirt Burned

his redshirt is burned.

IF he gets injured without playing more than 3 games and applies for a medical redshirt. The NCAA medical redshirt waiver is not guaranteed.

You can't burn it like that. He can still red shirt this year.
Sorry - this is wrong. Absent an injury, and I sure hope there isn't one, his redshirt is definitely burnt. Absent injury, you burn it by coming in for just one play.

I seriously doubt that Ash would burn his RS if he wasn't planning on grooming and using him.

His redshirt is not burned until he has played at least one quarter of the season.

Burning Oden's redshirt just tells you he figures in the plans this year . Ash and staff don't have confidence in Laviano or anyone else . I think we will see Oden starting at some point . Part of me cringes that this guy is getting thrown to the BIG wolves . But maybe he will be ready

Maybe we will get even a better QB so they may as well play Oden while he has the chance, before Michael Vick gets here.

He's a big time D1 athlete who had a solid offer list. Oden will be fine even as a freshman. He's the best QB on the roster for this O.

QB usually isn't a position where true freshmen make an immediate impact. Especially now that Gio and Oden are going to get experience.

It's becoming increasingly more common especially teams that play the spread. Below is a link to a Wahington Post article discussing this exact issue:

I always expected him to play this year but later in the year. If he going to be the starter next year, he needs some playing time this year. He won't be the starter until a few games, 3-5 games.

I'm not sure what we would be saving them for. We need to show something to keep all of our current commits. If that means burning every redshirt so be it.

I think part of the freshmen playing is just playing for the future. This year will be very tough. The more guys who get experience this year the better it bodes for the future.

And this is the time to do it. Ash isn't stupid. He knows what he has and isn't going to hope to play it close with guys who don't fit what he wants this program to be. He is going to ease the guys in who will be in his program when his @ss is really on the line. Years 3 and 4.

That's Oden for starters. You don't burn a freshman QB's redshirt who isn't even listed on the depth chart in a meaningless game without having a more immediate, bigger plan.

I was extremely impressed with Oden's vision and patience. I expected good speed but I didn't expect the way he seemed to see the field, wait for a block and go. Lots of times a young player, RB or QB, will just run up the back of their blockers.

This isn't just for the sake of a little experience either. I have a feeling Oden will be a big part of this offense going forward this year even if he isnt starting. We might legitimately NEED him as early as the start of conference play.
