Officials were awful

The block right before the OPI toward the end of the 2nd QTR was an absolute legal pancake though. Should'nt have been called.
This is the play we are discussing. Sam Brown ran for the TD in the 2nd qtr.. The female ref threw a flag on Ireland Burke's beautiful pancake block on the DT to call back the run.

Crazy money being paid for Big10 game content. I’m sure the league doesn’t directly fix or favor teams the country cares about, but I’m also sure this is in the back of the refs’ minds.

You think I’m mad about calls against the team I root for because I lost money? What?
Educated guess! Last night was bad, but predictable. At least they screwed both team's, and not just Rutgers. Our side needs to be better at holding our water, because we are not the darlings of BIG10 ref's.

If you leave it up to the zebra's judgement, and you play for Rutgers expect to get screwed!

I think rather than just complaining, we should start a petition to get Rutgers officials to take video evidence, of our typical screwing, and demand back pay for the privilege. I would go for a retroactive full share, like the LA schools are getting.

Until that time GS has to coach the coaches to instill better discipline and field awareness in his player's.

Good reply.

I don’t bet on Rutgers games because I only use the legal NJ sportsbooks.

Regarding bolded, that’s fine for plays like the out of bounds one (which I didn’t like but obviously wasn’t that ridiculous to call a penalty) but there’s no amount of discipline that can prevent completely phantom holding and offensive pass interference calls. And yes I do agree there were bad calls against Nebraska as well and that it wasn’t the main issue in this game.

It is funny, my initial comment you quoted was solely based on that last call. This whole time that is the one I thought you were upset by.

The BIG10 ref's are the worst in the P5, when it comes to us especially. Just review the BC game they almost cost us.

I'm at the point where I don't hate last night's crew, because at least they were constantly bad for both team's. Making the game much fairer. It sounds like you also get, it is not just what they call, it is what they don't call. That is where Rutgers usually gets screwed. A judgement call that gets called against Rutgers, but is fine for our opponents.

Maybe I'm finally maturing as a sports fan, because I handled it much better last night. 😆

I wonder who told them to look for OPI. I can't remember seeing that many in 1 college game!

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but Sam Brown's nice run, where his foot hit the left pylon, was called back because of holding on Matt Alaimo. Sean Ryan also possibly could've been called for holding on that play. The call wasn't necessarily a bad call.

Ireland Brown's (aka Ireland Burke) questionable holding penalty was on the play immediately before the phantom OPI call on Sean Ryan... On the Ireland penalty Monangai ran for 6 yards for a first down to the Nebraska 40, which was called back because of the penalty. Back to back questionable calls against RU pushed us back from 2nd and 4 at the Nebraska 45 to 2nd and 29 at the Rutgers 30, and nullified a legit RU 6 yard running first down, and then a legit RU 27 yard passing first down that should've given us a first down at the Nebraska 27. Grrrrr.... We ended up punting from the Rutgers 47.

The officiating crew was the same crew that did the Michigan Iowa game last week, and they were equally as bad. They killed a Rutgers drive last night, just as they did last week for Iowa. The chic ref called an Iowa OL for a personal foul because he finished his block (pancaked), and it appeared that she did the same last night to a Rutgers O lineman. Iowa also had a clip called, which the announcers and the video review expert said was not a clip and all agreed the pancake block was a great block and perfectly legal. The offensive pass interference call on Rutgers was complete BS. The league seriously needs to review that crew, as it cost both Rutgers and Iowa points, and those points changed the outcome of the game. I don't know if Iowa would have won the Michigan game, but at the time it was only a 7 point game and they lost by 13, but Rutgers lost by one and that killed drive should have netted them at least a chance at a FG if not a TD.

I know refs get a call wrong once in a while, but in two consecutive weeks, to blow two calls on two different teams killing drives in different games is pathetic.
We got hosed pretty bad last night, but I'd say you guys got it worse last week - not sure I've ever seen so many brutally bad calls in one game against one team.

This is was what I thought too. Doesn’t excuse the calls, but I think why I couldn’t place what everyone is talking about.

Agreed on all counts and we certainly would've at least had a decent shot at 3 or 7 withouth those two atrocious calls that even the announcers were saying were bad calls (as well as the ref they had on the phone-a-ref hotline that most telecasts have now).

Personally, I also thought the late hit out of bounds call with ~4 minutes left in the game was uncalled for. He had a hold of him in bounds and then threw him out of bounds, but didn't body slam the guy. If he threw him to the ground in bounds it wouldn't have been an unnecessary roughness call. I get that he didn't have to do it, but he was just trying to get him out of bounds to slow the clock. And calling it in that pivotal of a situation just didn't seem right. And so people don't think I'm a homer on calls, I thought the penalty and ejection of Cruickshank were both warranted, as that was far, far worse than what Abraham did.

If he just continues in the same motion and just spins him, I do t think it is called. He put an extra effort right at the end to put him to the ground. That was the issue and the right call.bottom line, if the hold wasn’t called, we get 7. If the OPI wasn’t called we get at least 3.

Mae win…but, the 2nd half was very concerning. And I am not going to put it on the QB’s-play calling by this staff is so bad. I mean, as bad as it could be.

The lady was just Horrible...It looked she struggled almost every play just to get into correct position and is Way over her head at this level and speed of game

I used to be a ref, different sport and not at this high of a level, but I can tell you with 100% certainty stuff like that is definitely not on the refs' minds, especially since the next media rights contract is 8 years away. Even if there was some thought about it, Rutgers would most likely be the ones benefitting from such a bias since a Rutgers football team that is competitive in the Big Ten and gets the NY market back on the bandwagon would be huge for the conference. The refs aren't concerned with media rights deals or anything that the corporate suits concern themselves with, they are out there trying to perform to the best of their abilities just like everyone else on the field. Unfortunately, sometimes the people on the field suck. In this game, some of the people who sucked were the refs.

Not on their minds, but IN their minds if you get what I’m saying. Same as when a boxing underdog’s 10 second count after a knockdown is only 7 seconds and the fight is stopped, or when a ball from another pitcher is strike three for Greg Maddux.

Not intentional, but expected or subconsciously preferred calls.

No I understand what you're saying, but the amount of money spent on Big Ten content is not in the refs' minds at all. Sometimes there may be extraneous factors impacting a decision they make, but that isn't one of them.

After rewatching the game that holding call on Alaimo was criminal and along with the OPI call cost us the game. End of story. No way Neb comes back from 20-0.

If you watched the replay on FS1 they actually focused on a block down field as if that was the holding call. Never saw that before - the ref clearly said it was on Alaimo.

Each game should be decided on the field - not by reputation or history. I for one am getting tired of being on the receiving end of this nonsense.

Not directly but certainly it is “suggested” to the Refs to make sure the blue bloods of the B1G get the benefit of doubt on all calls. Especially against the bottom feeders of the B1G. Can’t tarnish the image of the premier teams on televised games.

in the 3rd Q, we were trying to go fast tempo and she kept standing in front of Evan to slow him down. unbelievable. she was the worst i've seen in a long time.

If the offense makes substitutions the D is supposed to be given time to also substitute. The problems were the holdings and OPI, not that.

Lol yeah the Big Ten certainly wouldn't want the team that has the biggest media market in the country in their backyard to do well. These conspiracy theories are so nonsensical. The refs just sucked, end of story.

I think the conference office feels Nebby has a chance to get to 5 wins and wants them considered for a bowl game when some slots don't get filled.

It's a "feel good story" with a interim HC in a program that was good many years ago.
Oh stop!

Ughh. I watched 2 or 3 sideline tackles in the 'Boyz-Rams game on Sunday a lot like Abraham's. No penalties of course. Refs need to let the players decide the game , not them on a borderline call like that.

The b.s. hold penalty was one of the worst calls all year on us and that's saying A LOT.

After further review the b.s. OPI call was as bad as the b.s. holding penalty. Hobbs really needs to get the league to look into those horrific calls, they were ridiculous game changers.

You have to wonder if Gleason would still have his job if one of those 2 bogus pass interference calls wasn't made.

The B1G is in the biggest media market for one reason only: to greatly enhance the exposure of the B1G and not to improve the Rutgers Football program.

I didn't say they are trying to improve our football team. My point was that if they were going to tell the refs who to slant calls towards (and every single one of them would just do so instead of a single person going to a different conference and leaking out that the Big Ten is trying to rig games), it would be beneficial to the Big Ten to slant the calls in Rutgers's favor. Every team has fans who think the league is conspiring against them.

The woman referee was terrible. Two bad calls , including killing a second quarter drive . Again in the second quarter, the field judge with the offensive pass interference call that negated a big gain . Completely bogus and needs to be looked into by the league.
the late hit didn’t need to be called but they’re gonna call that every time on the opposing sideline .
THe BIG referees absolutely screwed us last night . But still no excuse to lose to that team in our building . We continue to be at rock bottom . Sad stuff
F. The refs retroactively. That still counts does'nt it!
