Ogbole To Rutgers

He basically replaces Dean. I appreciate Dean's efforts but I have a feeling this kid will be at least a slight upgrade, especially on defense

Glad we got the big man, but I’m willing to bet that this year’s version will show his rawness every minute he’s on the floor. I expect, defensively fouls by him will be okay with Pike. On offense, an occasional rebound and put back and the ability pass quickly (even if that is right back to the guy who dumped it in) AND simply out of the post—no passes into or across the lane.

Woolfolk will play some 4 according to Twitter. With Mag recovering we can't rely on Hyatt to play all 40 minutes there.
Wolf may need to play some 4 out of necessity but it's far from ideal unless he added a 3 point shot to his bag this off season

Another aspect about Paul leaving was the versatility as he could play some 4 if we needed him to depending on the matchup

If Mag is out it's Hyatt then.... this would be a huge opportunity for Chol to step up and take those minutes, but no one knows if he's ready for that

Other option would be Gavin who has the length but is skinny and I don't think he wants to play the 4 either

The 5 spot is upgraded for the coming season

Cliff who will be better than ever

Wolf - year 2 after shedding weight and just now starting to become a full time basketball player

Ogbole - size and length we missed last season. Dean and Wolf got abused all year when Cliff was out. Offensively, I only expect dunks. Defensively it's a big upgrade. Rim protection and rebounding will be much better than Wolf or Dean when he is in. Concern is likely too many fouls and probably TO prone since he's so raw offensively

Some of our better big man were raw. Hinson would have gone to Wagner if not RU.
I'm glad you brought that up and you probably have a better memory of his recruitment than I do. But if you place Hinson in today's environment, with AAU ball, camps, etc. do you think he would have been recruited harder based on his potential and his raw athleticism?

When he was a freshman, you could see the potential, but he needed to get stronger and develop offensively. Still one of my all-time favorite players.

Of course, in today's game, if Hinson went to Wagner and did well, he would've hit the portal at some point.

Does he understand the game well enough that Tim protection and rebounding will be much better? I’m skeptical.

Well, the coaches will have a summer with him then fall workouts. I think they will be able to convey what his role is. Now, how eager is he to learn that role and accept it is another question.

I was responding to a comment which seemed to be stating those two improvements as no brainers. I think it remains to be seen.

I’m hopeful but I also remember Agee and the fact that he couldn’t be on the court without us suffering big time. If he can play defense better than Reiber it will be an upgrade.

Ogbole is also significantly bigger. At minimum he won’t be thrown around like Agee was

Do we know that his knee injury at the end of the season that caused him to miss Monroe College's last few games isn't serious and won't be a chronic problem or affect his mobility?

Not sure if any of the articles mentioned it, but the injury occurred in Monroe's third to the last game of the season vs Allegheny on March 11th and he was helped off the court, and was unable to play in the JUCO National Tournament games on March 20th and March 21st..

Game video link is below, and his injury occurs around the 56 minute mark of the video.. Emmanuel is number 21 in yellow,,, Hopefully he's fine now or he will be by the start of the season. But knee injuries are always a little concerning until you know more...

Yes. I played with Roy. He was just getting started, not much offensive junior year, senior better, but could defend.

He's 6-10 with a 7'6 wingspan and a full grown man body

Dean and Wolf offer 0 rim protection so that one is a default. I can't imagine a universe where Dean is a stronger rebounder than Ogbole. Wolf can maybe use technique, but Ogbole is just a different level size and athleticism wise. Wolf is a below the rim player. Ogbole plays above the rim

Agee was like the incredible shrinking man. He looked smaller every time he was on the court. If he was actually 6'5 I'd believe it

He’s going to be depth. I doubt he will be better than Reiber this year.

And it could be that everytime he attempts to protect the rim he leaves his man too soon and allows simple dump and dunk or that every attempt to protect becomes a two shot foul. I think you’re probably right but are too certain of what will occur in games.

I saw Cliff's highlights when he was a senior, comparing his film to Ogbole's I think Ogbole has much more skill set than Cliff did. I know Ogbole may be a little older entering RU than Cliff was but he also has less experience playing basketball.

I think people will be surprised at how good Ogbole will be.

First of all, this “kid” is a year older than Cliff is today.

Secondly, the level of competition is poor. Cliff’s Roselle Catholic high school team could probably wax Monroe by about 40 points.

You may not be, but some others here have unreasonable expectations. As of right now he is the 3rd center on the roster, and is mainly depth.
And I hope that his knee stays healthy and that he's not prone to re-injuring it.. That could make a difference in his mobility and in how much he can contribute.

I really don’t interpret that from the comments. What I gather from the comments is that he may have more potential than most of us thought at first.
I gather he will not be expected to help mush this season, but once he gets developed he will be a good one.

In this NIL era of revolving door rosters, taking on players needing development is not ideal.
